View Full Version : music for demo...

ok, so I'm not a big fan of music demos, but we do one once a year for political reasons. I'd love to get some music ideas from you guys.

Something that's got a powerful beat, heavy bass, etc. NO g-d****ed Mortal Kombat, Jock Jams, etc. We did 'spybreak' about three years ago, and that was fun, but now everyone and their sister is using the Matrix theme song.

No orchestral stuff either. Always puts the judges to sleep.

I'd especially like some drum and bass, or downtempo stuff. Saru, Dj Food, etc.

Please help or I'm going to be using either Poison or Slaughter.

I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather be a hammer than a nail
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

Away, I'd rather sail away
Like a swan that's here and gone
A man gets tied up to the ground
He gives the world its saddest sound
Its saddest sound

I'd rather be a forest than a street
Yes I would, if I could, I surely would
I'd rather feel the earth beneath my feet
Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would

track 3 (or was it 4) from the crouching tiger hidden dragon soundtrack .... it's one I've wanted to use for a long time (that drumming one).

'night flight' -- track 4.

Yes. Very good suggestion. If I was to pick something off that soundtrack it would be that. Stuff from Mononoke Hime is fun too.

Its called "El Condor Pasa"

Nothing like stealing a classic Incan song and attatching your own drivel.

Remind me to set some lyrics to Mozart's requeium, then saying, "By Stacey"

Its as bad a Puff Daddy.

I am not into the music demo stuff either, but i have done a few.-

Faithless - Salva Mea
sickness -disterbed
Offspring - Staring At The Sun

Rocky II - Bill Conti - The Final Bell
The Prodigy - Firestarter

The first 3 are the only ones that i have ever used. The last two are just ones that i have thought about using.

Kula Shaker - Hey Dude

I thought of using Sickness, but it might make the soccer mommies mad :) Maybe that will encourage me :)

I like Firestarter, and hadn't considered it. Good call!

A friend of mine who runs a downbeat website is gonna throw some beats together for me, we'll see what he comes up with. Keep the suggestions coming.

prodigy -- smack my ***** up.

now there's a good one, but it might not go down well with the judges.

agreed on the faithless/salva mea thing. lizmantis? you get a fat cookie for that suggestion.

other suggestions:

uptempo techno -- antiloop's "believe"
throbbing techno -- juno reactor's "god is god"
-- crystal method/filter's "trip like i do" (the
version with the vocals from the guy from
filter)

I like "Breathe" by Prodigy

Try "Don't Sweat the Technique" by Eric B and Rakim :)

Tigerstyle

Man, I just downloaded the MP3 and I must once again recommend Eric B and Rakim. The beat will have you jumping right from the beginning.

listening to it now... I could roll with that.

I haven't listened to Erik B and Rakim since 7th grade... something I should have sorely regretted.

ready to roll - by Republica

cool tune, ...shout it from the rooftops yah baby I'm ready to roll.

pretty kung fu-ish kind of tune. :D

there's always the generals march also known as Huang Fei Hungs theme.

or even better to have live lion dance drummer playing to the movement of the kung fuer giving the demo, real trad.

peace

i'm sorry, but your canadian ear isnt sensitive enough for that british tongue -- the song is "ready to go."

good choice regardless. i'm glad you could even name the band. :)

ooh... local radio played the hell outta that one when it came out... Whenever I hear the guitar at the beginning, I begin to cringe involuntarily.

Not that it's a bad song... I might just go insane. It's in a commercial, too isn't it?

rubthebuddha
02-21-2002, 09:25 AM
wu de: then ignore the guitarish version. the band actually put out two flavors of the song on their cd, and the other version is far better -- lots more techno-ish, without that darn guitar.

also, i still have a dream that someone will do a phat performance to white zombie's "more human than human."

sigh, maybe some day. :(

Yeah "breathe" is a good one. What about the beat from Dead Prez "HipHop"?

rubthebuddha

filter -- hey man, nice shot
machines of loving grace -- suicide king
fluke -- atom bomb
siobhan murphy -- stayin alive (yes, it's a beegees cover, and it's phat; i think it's on the supercop soundtrack)

How about the music from Episode I when Darth Maul is fighting Obi Wan and Qui Gon? I love that one. I listen to it all the time.

Dual of the Fates... yea, we wanted to do a demo with that right before the movie came out, but decided against it. Good tempo though.

We really are considering Don't Sweat the Technique.

easy-e will probably not be considered, god rest his smutty soul. :)

What about B.O.B ( bombs over baghdad) - by Outkast?
It's got an uptempo flow.

Break Yo Neck- Busta Ryhmes

Playa's Pieces- Spice 1

Sorry guy. I can mostly just come up with hip hop stuff, cuz I don't listen to much of anything else.

You like the spanish hiphop joint in that levi's ad with the dancer whose arms head and chest don't move while his legs spaz out? That's "Si Senor" by Machete Control.

I use Aimster. It's not bad, but it's a bit intrusive. That little search engine thing opens itself every time I start up my computer. Easy to use for those of us with Napster Withdrawl.

I haven't heard the song, but I'm familiar with the group. You got the name right, only backwards. Control Machete.
