I think you may have shot yourself in the foot here.

The pole is pretty advanced stuff. For you to get a satisfying answer it may follow that you need a response from an advanced student. It seems, however, that most of the higher level guys here find your online persona obtuse and evasive. I don't think they'll give your query the attention you want.

Me, I'd be happy to discuss this with you, but as I mentioned, its pretty advanced. While I have had the pole opened to me, I haven't trained it much nor have I learned any of the detail, so I won't attempt to give you an answer.

You wouldn't be happy anyway cause I kinda agree with some of the answers I've read already. :D

There's probably a lesson to be learned here...

Nah.

Whipping hand, I don't know what you really mean by your question. It is quite vague. Anyhow, I give it a shot.

You hold the staff/pole with both hands. One hand is the "power hand" and the other is the "control hand". The "power hand" is about 2 or 3 inches from one end of the pole. The "power hand" and "control hand" are about shoulder width apart.

The "power hand" generates the power. It determines the magnitude of the force/power. The "control hand" determines the direction of the pole. The direction could be thrusting forward, circling, horizontal, or vertical. Therefore we can say that the "control hand" controls the power through the pole.

How was that? Did I answer your question?

Assuming you've got power (I think cultivating that it stage 1, with controlling it stage 2), the control is a developmental process of power refining. You learn to use enough, but not too much, and to involve only what is necessary. This takes alignment, relaxation, and root. I also find Yum Yeung (Yin Yang) plays a role in this, with the power in the body equalizing that expressed through the pole enough to keep the movements precise.
