What is the craziest thing you have ever done to toughen up your hands.(for breaking)

I have seen some crazy things done to harden hands .I seen this one guy who spent whole hour just hitting a Peice of steel he had drilled into a wall. This guys hands were pretty tough. He claimed that he started by hitting sand put into a
denim bag then when he was doing good with that he emptied the bag and filled it with pee gravel. Then when he wasn't getting any better from that He got some 1 inch round river rocks. Then he started hitting the steel plate.

I have seen people who tried to do some really crazy training and got injured.

I seen this one person who tried to pick up heated iron filings to toughen his hands. But I don't think that works very well.

Heavy Bag and Dit Da. It isn't crazy. It works.

I want tough hands, but I don't want calouses (sp?). Hence the Dit Da.

A guy I knew had a friend who repeatly broke his hands during Muay Thai overtraining and eventually the knuckles got grafted together into one flat...thing.
I thought it was either bull sh it or very scary. Imagine that guy when he's fifty. Hell imagine how he uses a keyboard.
