There are things other than kung fu???

Seriously most of the other stuff i like doing revolves around the girl im dating.
We go out to movies, sit in the botanical gardens, visit art gallerys. Go for walks along Sydneys various beaches, Ive even been sitting down in nice resturants and ordering real meals instead of fast food. We also sit and have coffee and listen to jazz and stuff like that.
Normaly i wouldnt have a bar of a lot of this stuff but when im with her - everything seems enjoyable.
Im just hoping we dont break, we are only just fresh and if she go's im back to being a loner again:(

I used to love playing computer games but i then worked in them and that basicaly ruined my interest.
Still ive had a little fun with Ghost Recon which is the only game ive enjoyed in the last 18 months.
I also like film and tacky dance music plus going out with my friends.

Budokan's hobbies:
--reading (mostly SF)
--writing
--chess (my favorite openings are the Guico Piano and Ruy Lopez)
--astronomy
--baseball (go Cubs!)
--cooking (mostly BBQ and Italian, some French and Down Home Southern)
--fishing (catfishing only, preferred bait is shrimp)
--watching old movies (Casablanca is my favorite) and MA movies

Budokan's Likes and Dislikes: I like rainy afternoons and warm Beagle puppies. I dislike phony people, stupid people and hypocrites--which is 90-percent of the general population. I also think I'm usually much more intelligent and have more of my original teeth than most people I meet. Since I live down here in the South it's often a safe bet I'm right.

Shall we list our Playmate Stats next...?

I was somewhat surprised to see how many people actually listed reading as one of their hobbies. Reading has always been somewhat of an eclectic activity but yet a lot of us who are interested in MA seem to read quite a bit. I wonder why that is?

My interests are pretty obscure:

Music is a pretty ambiguous description of my interest, but it's one of the cores of my being. I'm huge on all kinds of rock. From punk rock and hardcore to old school country. I have a small but growing collection of vinyl (do not ever collect this stuff if you want to build a sizable bank account). I even took a part time job in a record store despite my 9-5 gig just so I could surround myself with music and get a nice discount on purchases :) I could talk your ear off for hours on just about every genre.

I used to be a big PC and Console gamer but it seems like time is becoming scarce and I just don't have the opportunities to play anymore. But I still find time every now and then. Grand Theft Auto rules you!

I've been writing fiction since I was in the seventh grade and thanks to some genuinely encouraging teachers, my abilities have grown. I'm working on a series of short fictions in a single continuity based around my turbulent teenage years in the punk rock scene that are being fitted for web publishing (I've designed a site to host them, just haven't uploaded it all yet).

I used to be big into web design, but then I got a job doing it and the fun was taken right out of it. I still try to build my own sites every now and then. I recently started picking at the PHP language, which rocks, but I haven't had much time to really dive into it.

Movies play about as big a role in my life as music does. I'm all up in the low brow, sleazy exploitation stuff that started with a juvenile interest in horror movies. I have a massive collection of bootleg and import videos of horror movies you never knew existed and would probably turn your stomach no matter how hardcore you think you are. The horror turned to Hong Kong action (which ultimately fueled my desire to learn kung fu), from there to 60s drive-in features. Despite the fact that I like a lot of trashy movies, I also have a deep appreciation for the finer movies made and I scour the internet looking for All Region DVDs of foreign movies that will never make it to American soil.

I also read A LOT. I tend to read a lot of nonfiction mostly because I find truth to be stranger than fiction, to coin a term. some of my favorite authors are in the sci fi genre but a lot of them tend to also be associated with music to some degree. I like Henry Rollins, Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, Umberto Ecco, Nancy Collins, Chuck Palahniuk, Douglas Rushkoff and Tolkien. I could probably rattle off names for hours, though.

I like to hike and camp, as close to caveman style as possible. All my camping gear fits into a small (3 day) pack, yet I can stay out indefinately if I want.

I want to get back into practicing wilderness survival skills again. Whe I last left off, my sister was teaching me to identify wild edible plants, a skill that extends my outdoor vacations considerably as I don't have to pack as much food and can go longer. I need a major refesher though as I have not had time for that stuff in a few years.

Yup, I'm a real "Walk out into the mountains with just a big Knife" type. Well, I'm still in the "Wann'a be" stage, but I'll get there!!! :D

When I was younger, I was obsesssd with developing the skills to do all those crazy stunts you see on TV show like "Dukes of Hazzard". I got prettty damm good too, including mastering the flying 360 on wet pavement. (That's where your going about 40 MPH and put the car into a full 360 degree spin and straighten out and continue on like nothing happened WILE staying completely in your own lane). I never got good a t doing it on dry pavement, and I only did once right, on accident ( trying something else) Speed to do it on "dry" is in excess of 60 MPH, and you need a seriously powerful motor to maintain wheel spin AND forward drive through the intitation of the spin. A manual trans helps too to disconnect the power from the wheels at the correct moment as you spin the steering wheel hard in the other direction for the second 180 degrees of the spin.

I tried jumping cars for a wile, but after a few runs and ruined suspensions, bent frames and an acidental total (car pichted forward, and the tailcame up on me in the air because I was still accelerating off the ramp instead of coasting off it) I dropped that persuit as it is too expensive without a landing ramp, and I was just useing a really steep rail road crossing as my take off ramp with no landing ramp on the other side.

I like to hike when I can't camp out, swim in rivers and climb. I want to learn to climb right as in the past all I did was free climb. Ever free climb sandstone? WOW that's hard. I never went too high. I'm sure I would have broken something if i slipped, but the only really high sandstone climbs I did were pretty easy. The hard risky ones I stayed relatively close to the ground, so If I fell I only risked a bad break, and risk of death minimal.

Anyway, now I just sit online and read the Kung Fu forums :D

"Yup, I'm a real "Walk out into the mountains with just a big Knife" type. Well, I'm still in the "Wann'a be" stage, but I'll get there!!!"

Me to, hey maybe this summer we should do a kungfu campout for a weekend. Training at the kankakee river state park rules. There is allot of cool training we could do in rock creek. Old school stuff.

I also like video games, used to big into fighting games but for some strange reason I always secretly liked action games better.

Comics, this is one left from my child hood. For awhile I didn't read comics but in the past year I am getting back into it. Mostly Spiderman and other mrvel heros(except the over rated x men)

My biggest talent next to kungfu would have to be art. I like pencil but my real area to shine is colored pencil stuff. I can blend colored pencils so they look like what most people do digital. Nobody ever taught me how to do it, it kinda just happened one day while I was fooling around. I won't tell though because it's my secret.

I like philosophy. Especially when I look at modern figures and see how their beliefs matched Taoism. Like Tupac but that takes along explination. It's fun to do though, you learn allot about people and how most all belief systems are essentially the same. Even if the person is considered a "thug".

I mostly think, talk and practice kungfu though.

Don't get me started on that one.

I am sure you are smart enough, but please don't ever race with kids in the car. Some guy was test-driving a mudstain(mustang) right up the road from my parents home. He had his son with him and somehow crashed. The guy driving died and his son was transferred to the burn unit in Galveston Texas, and I think he may have died too. Very sad. Of course with a honda you can't go too fast so you shouldn't worry about that! :)

- Socialising. There are some great bars around here. How can I not sample the wares [peers over beergut!]
- Learning. I love it, be it my A-levels, or other sh!t. It's what keeps me going.
- Logic. Chess, WaiChi, outsmarting the cat in the race for the offcuts of Sunday roast Turkey......
- Films. Good films. I'm talking "Apocalypse Now" over "Three Kings", "Nosferatu" over "From Hell" and "The Shining" over "The Mummy". Mainly horror. It taps into primal emotions.

Other crazy sh!t Delicate likes to do:

Academia: Philosophy, particularly metaphysics (especially early neoplatonism) and philosophy of mind (especially consciousness and the mind/body problem). Physics, when it pretends to be metaphysics (especially Bohmian quantum mechanics). Religion, particularly mysticism (especially Christian gnosticism and taoist internal alchemy). Neuroanatomy, physiology, chemistry, biology - only as much as I need for everything else. Cognitive science, especially issues related to consciousness (implicit processes, state-dependant processes, levels of consciousness, generation of qualia, attribution of sense of self, theory of mind) and the breakdown thereof (particularly delusions of all sorts), and the methods of neuropsychology and cognitive psychology.

Music: listening and making of all sorts. I play my Gibson Les Paul mostly, with a ridiculous library of effect boxes, but also occasionally find myself singing, playing piano (not keyboard!), and making wierd noises on my computer.

Also paintball, rockclimbing, clubbing (not seals), and writing computer games.

And craving Boo Berry. Oh you delicious ghost. Come back to me.

Hi.

I forgot to add reading.

Less now than in my younger days.

Mostly Terry Pratchet, true SF, Fantasy, Tolkien, selected Horror(Clive Barker, Lovecraft, etc.) older Detective stories, Sax Rohmer, Edgar Wallace, etc.

Boo Berry rules.:D

I play bass (Cort Curbow 5 string and Dean Rhapsody 8 string), read (mostly horror fiction, but also religious works sometimes), write (horror), paint (watercolor and oil). I'm also a home brewer (favorites include Irish Stouts and Cherry Wheats among beers, but my all time favorite alcoholic drink is mead). And that's about it, I guess, besides the internal arts.

Braden

Wow, so many Lovecraft fans. He's one of my favorite fiction authors. No one describes demons the way Lovecraft does. So evocative rather than descriptive. Even Clive Barker's wierdness pales in comparison.

Up until now, I always thought Lovecraft's work was Unspeakable...but apparently Braden was not phased by Eldritch horrors rising from the nighted gulf like everyone else whose tongues were torn from their mouths by the night gaunts.

I used to like Barker, but his recent stuff is pretty silly, I think. He's gone more into fantasy than horror. Stephen King's recent stuff is still scary, but only because it's so bad as well. I am beginning to think that the two of them are a fantasy novelist and a serious writer masquerading as horror writers. Oh, the humanity!

I've really gotten into jazz lately, myself. I heard this one song called Guinevere that is just awesome. Blue in Green is pretty good, too. I always said that I wanted to be a rock solid bassist when I first began playing, with more emphasis on the "rock" part of it. But these guys are solid, and I like that better. I've even decided that one of these days I'm going to go to school to learn to play that well, I just can't decide which school.

Hey, does anyone here play a Chapman Stick?
