The Berkeley Chinese Martial Arts Tournament is in less than a month! I'm wondering who in this community is going to go. I need to gauge what kind of audience will be at the tournament because I'm producing the DVD for it. Particularly, I want to know how many people are interested in seeing more traditional forms or contemporary forms on this DVD. This year is the 10th annual tournament, and we wanted to create a DVD to commemorate it.

Please go to the DVD website to vote on what kinds of forms you'd rather see, plus other polls that will let you choose what ends up on the DVD:

The tournament website is here:

If you don't know me, I run http://furiousg.com. If you like contemporary wushu, then you should probably come on over to my web site and check it out, because I have (I think) the largest collection of modern wushu videos on the web, US and international (thanks to various contributors).

I'm going as one of the judges for traditional style. I think people are interested in DVD that show traditional styles because of the wider range of variations within styles and the many flavors of the different styles verse Wu Shu where the diversity is narrower and after a while the Wu Shu sets start to look the same. Yes I'm a little bias but I do not hold it against anyone because in the end, we are all CMA.

I don't think I'd ever put 20 different people doing the same compulsory chang quan form on the DVD. That gets really boring, not only to the judges, but the audience and the people viewing the DVD will also not be entertained. I'm hoping to provide a good, representative cross-section of what happens at the tournament on the DVD.

I'm also hoping there will be some good traditional competition this year. It has waned a little in the past couple years, in my opinion. Maybe fewer people doing traditional these days, or they just aren't coming to our tournament.

Hopefully, KungfuMagazine.com forum members will take the time to say 'hi'. Most of you know what I look like and I'd love to meet you (especially NS!)

As for your dvd fg, just show the finalists.

I will be in town oin business and will be attending the competition.
It seemed as though in the initial marketing documentation for this event there was going to be full contact sparring comp for adults, but as it shows there is only 17 and under:(
Anyway, see you all there.

I'll probably show up with a few friends. No adult fighting competition, so I guess we'll watch.

Maybe I'll wear a monkey head so I can fdind the KFOers.

FuriousG,

try judging at a regional event with the beginning to intermediate Traditional division and having to sit through 35 competitors ALL doin Gong Li Quan (and most quite badly) - Talk about boring......

I'll take judging compulsories over that any day.
