Although I voted DM2, I must say I like Black Sheep Affair even better. Chiu Mun Cheuk (the other Wong Fei Hung of OUATIC series) as a PLA soldier stationed in a former Soviet Republic & has to take down a Japanese terrorist. Save for a little bit of over the top wire fu an excellent film with one of the best & most dramatic ending fights ever, oozes with tension! Four stars!:D

No argument, hands down, the best martial arts movie ever...

Jet Li's "New Fist of Legend"

Chang Style Novice

My real favorite movies don't have martial arts in them.

The Manchurian Candidate, Dr. Strangelove, The Night of the Hunter, Lawrence of Arabia, Yojimbo (okay, that's an exception), Fresh, House of Games, Dangerous Liasons (another exception with a fencing duel between John Malkovich and Keanu Reeves), The Big Lebowski, Duck Soup, Manhattan, Do The Right Thing, L.A. Story, Seven Days in May...and I'm just getting warmed up!

anybody else like good movies, not just ones with good fight scenes?

Although...

Jet Li vs. Yasuaki Kurata in blindfolds, Jackie Chan vs. Benny Urquidez in a Spanish castle (best ever!), Jackie Chan vs. Benny Urquidez in a drug factory, Bruce Lee vs. Kareem Abdul Jabar, Bruce Lee vs. Bob Wall in a locker room, Yasuaki Kurata vs. one of the venoms (Lo Meng?) in a katana vs. taichi sword duel...and I'm just getting warmed up here, too!

Lethal Weapon: Cool fight at the end between Mel Gibson & Gary Busey.
This movie had BJJ, Jailhouse Rock , Gun Fu, Crazy Fu & Mullet Fu. Classic 80's.

Enter the Dragon: Cool movie.Favorite movie back in the day but some of it seems a little silly now.
Too many badguys standing around smiling, waiting their turn to get their butts kicked by Bruce 1 at a time.

Tombstone: Awesome western. Lots of Gun Fu, Cup Fu, Ambush Fu, Earp Fu & Huckleberry Fu.
Great Movie.

When ChangStyle brought up Urquidez, I remembered another cool fight scene. Benny-vs-John Cussack in Gross Point Blank. That was just good ol' fashioned street style kick boxing.

Jackie Chan-vs- "that old guy" at the end of The Young Master.

Hulk Hogan-vs-Rocky in Rocky 3. The street fight at the end of Rocky 5.

Fight Club and Snatch, both awesome all the way through.

Any of the Blind Swordsman series. Ichi is the baddest mofo with a samurai sword.

Zatoichi rocks like yo grandaddy's chair! My favorite is the one (the titles escape me) where he helps a little boy escape from a house on a mountainside while about 30 billion henchmen carrying lanterns come after them through a forest at night. Truly exquisite.

Avoid "Blind Fury" aka "Rutger Hauer Cr@ps All Over the Beautiful Legacy of the Zatoichi Movies" at all costs, though.

Chen Zhen vs. General Fujita, ala Fist of Legend. Anime? That would be Grappler Baki vs. Shinogi the Cord Cutter. Hey Chang Style Novice, which movie has Yasuaki Kurata vs. a Chinese sword? He's pretty cool (I just recently realized that he was in Street Fighters Last Revenge, he was so young I hardly recognized him).

There's another movie with a character that always says "Buddha bless you" in it...Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin. Jackie's master says it constantly in that film. Isn't it also spoken often in The Buddhist Fist?

Maybe I'll watch it later and remind myself...:D

you gotta love those old Chan movies! :D
I really love all the old 70's/early 80's movies from the Shaws and Golden Harvest...

Also in Shaolin Temple, the abbot and senior monk says it all the time (as you wold expect), whenever something happens.

Yasuaki Kurata vs. a venom with a Chinese sword is in a Shaw Bros flick called (in the version I've seen) Ninja's Deadly Trap.

I was going to put Master Killer anyway. I liked ST 3 and 2 better than one.

Kung Lek- I think Raiders... was originally released under a different title, I can't remember what though.

It's so pathetic how no one knows old Shaw Bros and stuff here. You're all so uncultured compared to me.

Check this link out:

i didn't read this whole thread, but i sure hope yall gave bruce vs chuck it's due respect.
some favorites....
-fighters 2 (the old teacher was sooo nice)
-the sequel (who's name escapes my hungover, burnt brain cells right now)
-shaolin mantis (any old cat who fights with a pipe gets my vote)
-battle angel (ok, it's anime, but she is too nice to not be mentioned)
-wind ninja chronicles (like i need to write anything more)
--revenge of the ninja (forgot who mentioned it already, but whoever it was gets mad props cuz that movie is the sh!t!)
-shaolin vs. wu tang (c'mon, the chess scene is too villanous to be ignored!)

I've seen one with a guy chanting "Buddha Bless Us!" a lot, but it was called the Buddhist Fist.

Another fine, fine Lau Kar Leung pic from the Shaw Bros. stable, as it happens.

Fist of the North Star (anime) - uses a combination of Southern Mantis and sport karate.

Spiritual Kung Fu - incredible fight scene of Chan using tonfa, bad guy uses 5-ancestor fist (Seven Stye Fist), Chan uses Shaolin 5 Animals (5 style fist), old master at the end uses Northern Shaolin ("Bloody Palm" is Kuo Yu Cheong's palm strike).

Master Killer - good demonstration of Hung Ga's Gung Gee Fook Fu Kuen in the "Fist" scene. Also the movie opens with a demonstration of Hung Ga's "5 Animals" set done with weights on the arms.

Mystery of Chess Boxing - looks a lot like Choy Li Fut to me. Also Mizhongquan came to my mind, though I couldn't imagine Huo Yun Chia's art making its way into director Joseph Ng's mind.

Pushing Hands - old Sigung Lu does Yang Style Taijiquan for that movie. Anybody notice him in:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Wu Tang nominally, competition wushu Changquan all the way

Drunken Master - 8 drunken immortals matched against Chan - who does the opening of the "Fu Hok" (Tiger/Crane) set before splitting his pants! Also the fat guy does Hung Ga's 5 Animals set at the end with the master watching.

Snake in Eagle's Shadow - beautiful depiction of both styles. Also, the fat son of the rich merchant (same fat guy from Drunken Master) can be seen doing the "Siu Lum Tao" from Wing Chun

Rumble In The Bronx - Chan does the "Mok Yan Jong" set of Wing Chun at blinding speed and power at the outset of the movie, uses Wing Chun throughout the rest of the film.

Deadly Hands of Mantis - This style featured on its original video box the two antagonists locked in a Wing Chun "chi sao" position.

Circle of Iron - Cord, upon losing The Blind Man after the ruins fight, practices "Lien Bu Chuan" from Kuo Yu Cheong's Northern Shaolin in a forward moving fashion. Not much power generation from legs. At the end of the movie, Carradine can be seen doing one of the Northern Shaolin 10 hand sets from a distance.

Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to wrote a "kung fu movie title generator."

It would go something like this:
Choose any one, two, or three of the following.

Shaolin, Wutang, Deadly, Monkey, Tiger, Dragon, Mantis, Snake, Eagle, Sword, Fist, Kick, Hand, Claw, Buddha, Monk, Fighter, Ninja, Boxing/Boxer, Lama, Warrior, Killer, Master, Man/Men, Iron, Golden, Wooden, Stone.

Insert prepositions and articles as desired.

Insert any of the following as desired. Chamber, Shadow, Vs., Circle, Temple, Eight Diagram, Six Harmony, North, South, East, West, China, Whirling, Infinite, Champions, Duel, Fight, Battle, Dance, One-Armed, Crippled.

a few examples...

Duel of the Infinite Monkey Chamber
Circle of Boxing
Shadow Mantis of Sword
One-Armed Six Harmony Monk
Deadly Whirling Claw in Iron Wutang's Shadow

try your own, and I'm sure there are many words I skipped, too.
