When buying a dummy, is it hard to put together? I am thinking of getting one but my wood work skills are a bit crap.

What are you planning to secure the dummy to?

You have several choices, among them are:

1) 2 free standing posts.

If you do this you need to ensure a very solid grounding of the posts. Anchor bolts into cement would work. This would require a rotohammer or some other cement cutting tool. Epoxy cement is also very useful.

2) Box frame and brace.

Minimally you will secure the 2 side posts to the ground, and then 2 braces from the top to the wall. Again your best bet is to secure with bolts of some sort. If you have a wood framed wall, then you will need to find the studs of major braces.

This solution has a disadvantage of making the back wall into a sounding board. Your neighbors may not approve.

3) Using a corner.

Hard to explain by words. Stand and look straight at the corner where 2 walls meet. Put the 2 posts right against each wall. Move out until you have the correct spacing for the posts. The posts have to protrude from the wall so the cross pieces that hold up the dummy can extend pass the posts and slide just a bit.

The end product makes a right angle triangle, with 45 degrees at the posts and the wall makes the 90.

4) Fix it to some furniture.

You can also find a heavy stable piece of furniture to hang the dummy from. A bunk bed might work.

Good luck.

If IronFist can build a stand for his dummy, it can't be rocket science! :p
