Hey All,

Right now I am wanting to speed up my kicks but also I am wanting to build my legs a bit. Not built to be big, just what I have I want to be muscle. I do 45 minutes on the elipitical trainer at varying resistance levels, and also leg curls and calves raises. Will this leg routine hinder me in building up leg speed?

Thanks

Speed for walking? Speed for running? Speed for kicking? Which kick?

sprint training(10 to 50 metres), plyometrics, squats & deadlifts.
these will increase size, speed and power in all areas of your leg work.
have fun.

I can't evaluate your exercise routine. But, as far as building speed, I do have a suggestion or two.

One is to practice kicks and punches very slowly, after a while, as if there is resistance. Then go to full speed and watch em goooo. This doesn't work overnight, but aids in muscle control and balance, and the body gets freer of concerns and more precise and economical in movement.

Another is to practice with modest ankle and wrist weights of the tape-on variety. Builds strength and stamina, and speed when they are removed. I mean in comparison to when you didn't use weights at all.

Using both techniques, I would say you will experience improvement.

best,
