Hello everyone,
I am aware that this isn't related to the con-
tent of the forum, but I seek advice. Some friends and myself are planning to go on a tour to China this summer. We are taking a tour for the first part and ending it in Hong Kong. We all would love
to spend at least 2 more weeks on our own, away from the tour group, to travel and explore the rest of SE Asia. The whole region fascinates me, but we are on a budget. I would love to read some input as to where people have gone to, their exper
iences, how affordable things were, what it was like getting around, etc.
Thank you all

Though I have yet to make my first trip to the Orient (I am spending the Month of July in Thailand) I have done a decent amount of travel and I found that the following sources are pretty ****ed good (particularly Lonely Planet - the best travel guides out there):

www.lonelyplanet.com (http://www.lonelyplanet.com)

www.cdc.gov (http://www.cdc.gov)

travel.state.gov

Well, been to Malaysia a few times, and to China a few times, but other than the temples in Southern China there isn't really that much to tell.

I guess in Malaysia there is the Batu Caves and the Cameron Highlands. Other than that I haven't actually done that much sightseeing on my trips to either place, mostly training.
