Should you train against other arts?

I touched on this topic in another thread. I was wondering what everyone else thinks. When training self-defense should you try to learn how other arts and fighters approach fights or should you just train what you do and not worry about it? I think you should always keep in mind different fight strategies when training. I think it adds focus to your training. Any comments?

Always have an open mind. You dont want to be suprised when someone does something to you you have never seen.

When I started in TKD I was already a Black Belt from another style. The first time we sparred I did an iron broom, they never saw one before and went down hard.

Cross training is good, you dont always need to learn an entire new style, but work out with some one else, learn how they fight and principles.

We saw this big time in the first couple UFC's. FIghters were unprepared and it was ugly. (Butt scooting became famous)

You do not need to be a NHB fighter to be prepared for what you will prob see out there, but knowledge is a good thing.

DK - I think it is a good idea. You cant go wrong and I believe if it is approached properly it cannot hurt.

i don't know why you wouldn't want to if the opportunity presents itself.

if it's too inconvenient just work hard at what you're doing and you'll be alright.

my style is the rotting orbs style. i take advantage of whatever disease has transformed my genitiles into a cesspool of putrid rotting flesh and viscous puss. i have spent much time watching bjj videos and gay porn to learn techinques that will securely plant my crotch in my opponents face.

I agree red, and there is plenty of opportunities for learning out there.
