Just venting...

I've really gotten disgusted with the fantasy aspect of the martial arts that we've all (c'mon you know you did) at one time or another gotten into. I think it's one thing for a newbie to walk into a kwoon, dojang or dojo with a fantasy (hopefully to be dashed by the hard work he experiences) but another to be sold a fantasy outright.

I've seen the selling of the fantasy of controlling a resisting criminal by just holding your thumb in his mandible, I've seen the selling of the warrior fantasy complete with floppy swords and shiny clothes, I've seen the street fighter fantasy whatever that means. The list is endless and is not bound to any style.

For example, This guy maybe good but is he selling a martial art or selling the fantasy? (http://www.ssmma.com/mov_massattack.htm)

Anybody have any decent fantasy vids (martial arts), I need a good laugh about now.

That first video blows monkey balls man. That is a load of crap. In a real fight no one is going to stand there while you kick there friend's ass (that is if the guys are in a fighting mood). Some might, but majority won't stand there and wait to attack.

My favorite joke on that:
It doesn't matter if you are greatly outnumbered in a fight involving martial arts. Your enemies will wait patiently to attack you one by one... dancing around in a threatening manner until you have dispatched their predecessors.

Ever heard of the "sweep of death" - the guy in the first video does it to the second-last guy he takes down. He sweeps him and the guy doesn't even try to get up.

I thought the two on one video was funny.

c'mon guys give him a break
He was doing a demonstration in a shopping mall for chrissakes!
Of course it wouldn't be realistic. Would moms and their kids really want to see a brutal, bloodletting fight while shopping?
If it was realistic - he would have run after he dispatched the first few attckers, the opening was there to flee. However that would look kind of strange in a demo wouldn't it?
And he did do a downward strike with the sticks to the guy he legswept.

But I don't get the last guy in the last video, the 'no touch' one, ...was it his bad breath that took the guy down?

sure, it was complex, and drawn out with many steps, but the fact remains that those were nothing but dances. everything was choreographed -- the guy simply went from one to the other, knowing exactly which one was next and where the attack was. stuff like this is bogus to us -- we know better. but to the majority of mall shoppers, it IS selling something that is not there nor ever will be outside of choreographed demonstrations with cooperative partners.

i was waiting for someone to whip out a shiv and slice him in the kidney, but ****it, no dice.

sweep of death? Well when you train chen jin ti and other suai chiao, you can land someone head first and at high speeds. Ad to this someone who doesn't know how to fall and you can knock them out or stun them. A kick to the head should do the trick after that.
