How depressing. My daughter isn't old enough to read yet and this still scares the bejesus out of me.

We just found out that my wife is pregnant again too. Totally unexpected. I'm happy and sad at the same time. This story just leaned me more toward the sad side.

i don't know about spying . .. if you get caught they'll just use their friends computer.

you need to make sure they understand what can actually happen and actually make an effort to be involved in their life. we met a girl from the internet one time in high school. she met up with us to go to a manson concert. but her dad came with her. tell you the tuth i ended up liking her dad better than her.

i plan on collecting stories like that . .. pics included where available . .. and saying look dipsh!t this is what can happen. kids need to have a healthy fear of what reality can offer if you abandon common sense. if she wants to meet someone that bad, fine, ill go with her. i think the best prevention is to have a well informed child and be involved in their life. and in order to be involved you gotta let the little **** slide. that means no spying, no dictatorship on how they dress, no freaking out over little mistakes you once made yourself. otherwise they will hate you, actively try to disprove everything you say, and get away with whatever they want regardless of how difficult you make it. kids, especially teens, are crafty little fu ckers and they will find a way to shove the "cause i said so" sh!t up your ass. save your yelling and preaching for when it really matters and their ears will be a little more open.

i dunno, maybe im one of dem dare librals or somethin, but i dont care if my kids look at porn, get their ****.in nose pierced, or wear ridiculous clothes. but i will beat the sh!t out of the first one i catch drinking and driving. my little girl will also know more than she'll ever want to about internet stalkers, date rape, roofies, and self defence. most of this is speculative as my daughter is just 3, but i really dont see me having a problem with her staying out late as long as she calls to check in every couple hours and also calls before going anywhere else. if she were to go elsewhere without calling to let me know that's gonna be some serious sh!t. at 17 kids are gonna experiment with drinking. fine ... invite your friends over, lock the basement door, and i'll leave you alone. i just don't know how you can truly know where they are at and what they are doing unless you are cool with the harmless sh!t they will do anyway.

And, I agree with GDA. I would rather my kids be at home doing those things, then out and about not knowing what they are doing, who they are with etc. I guess it comes from knowing what I did as a teen!!!
