Actually neither of those arguments supports its falsehood. The skin is actually strong enough to hold the limb itself. Besides, he doesnt go int alot of detail on eth procedure and could have attached muscle or ligament as well to help support it. As for atrophy, it would atrophy, he has no control over it.

I am not saying I believe it but it is possible.
