I believe it is a general term referring to classical martial arts of the samurai.

I'm a Shaolin Priest!...no wait, I'm a pantomime horse...no wait, I'm a 50 terrawatt power station, no wait, I'm....shaking my head in disbelief at my lack of skill :)
He makes a good point.

Might I add that this article must be read very carefully. This is really one of the better articles I have read on the subject of McKwoons and lineages.

ewallace,
Thank you for posting that. Excellent, excellent article.
Now, we should get all the "suspect" folks on here to read it too and see what they think...:D

de nada. Glad you enjoyed. It is a very long article but very worth reading through. I saw this about a year ago and thought "what a dumb ass". Then I read the whole thing and realized what a fantastic article it really was.

About koryu.
"ko=old" "ryu"=school
So it means "old school".
There are two kind of japanese martial arts:
koryu and gendai-budo.
koryu is older/classical arts like "jujitsu",while gendai-budo is younger arts like "aikido".
Ewallace´s description is also good.
