A friend of mine used the term sitting while talking about stance training. Was he referring to sinking his chi?

No, he was probably referring to "tucking" it feels kinda like your sitting down. It connects the bottom part of the body to the top. It's a nuance, but a good one.

your body will be stable and balanced as if you are sitting in a chair.

Could be used to describe "rooting" or "burying" the stance making it immovable.
Not a meaningless thing I suppose.

My bagua sifu explains it like this: when you have the intention to sit, just when you lower to lay your buttocks on the chair, you inconsciously relax the sacrum area, and the inferior part of the spine (how are these muscles called in english? In french it's lombaires...lumbers? LOL enlighten me).
Anyway, that's the same relaxation we seek when performing the bagua, which my sifu calls as well "sit"

You know how to sit. That's what you do when You are not training. :-)

Once your feet are in position, do like you would for musical chairs. You Know how. If you don't really think about it You should do it right every time. Walkout your feet...Nowwww, SIT!. Perfect stance for your current abilities.
