The kung-fu classes i take are in the Lau gar style, but reading some of Bruce Lees books i can see that JKD seems a more sensible way of doing kung-fu. I would like to develop my style into more like JKD than Lau, but do i need a teacher or could i just do this by practise myself and following books?

if it's orig jkd...u need to look up and train with a bruce lee linage instructor. JKD is a little too complicated to learn thru video and books.

Do you want to make all the mistakes your self?
I suggest to find a teacher to guide you on the path. or else I
fear you will just get lost.
