Hi all. Just curious as to what your opinions are on the animal-style influences on Wing Chun. Can we break it down, and can we identify the greatest influence. I'd say off hand, that it is more crane than anything else. This from Bon Sao, Fook Sao, Huen Sao, Lift knee position and the kicking. But, maybe Fook Sao is from Fox Style?? Because it looks and acts like a dog pawing at your arm. Snake style, we have the Bil sao thrusting fingers, but no twisting stance. Tan Sao ?? where does that come from, although it's the same shape as Bon Sao, but with a rotation.

Anyone have experience in the animal styles or southern shaolin that could speak to this? I'm especially interested to find out where our vertical fist punch and the mechanics comes from, any other style punch like that? Howabout the half-circle stepping?
