Well, that is interesting. As I was reading this I remember a group that came to an international meeting of the Clan that my sifu is connected with.

Anyway, a visiting sifu of the vancouver clan branch brought his lion dance team and kung fu students and he is a Pak Mei practitioner and one of his students did this form in the parking lot the evening after all the lion dance and celebrations.

At least as i think of what he did and read your lyrics, I'm thinking this is the form he did.

This set is highly regarded and is the most prized set in NSL. The technique called in # 30, Rolling ground golden scissors kick, has been described as a Dragon rolling on the ground.

This set, besides the Double Tiger Hooks and Raise Blocking Spear, was the set that I use to perform in my hay-days in demonstrations and in tournaments in the 1970's.

But what I really wanted to state that this was not the only double saber set that KYC taught. There were three other NSL sets called Pa Kua Double Sabers, Wonderful Fish Tail Double Sabers and Lui Ho Double Sabers. These sets were regarded as at a higher level than Ti Tung Double Sabers.

As for the single saber, here again there is another set that is regarded to be at a higher level than the basic saber, Pi Chi Saber, and the middle level, Lui Ho Saber. That set is called Swallow's Tail Saber.

This does not surprise me that you saw this set demo by Bek Mei because one of the famous sifus, I forget who, learned some NSL sets, including hand sets, and have added them to their curriculum.

I used to perform this set too. I was one of my earlier competition sets.

KL: I'm amazed that you can figure the set out by the lyrics. Often I'll know the set and can't figure out the lyrics. They can be so obtuse.

A kf bro and myself were taught a "spear vs double broadsword" set by a visiting teacher to my sifus school over the course of a summer a few years ago.

we videotaped it for posterity after Mr.Yan Kit taught us the set and since then I have learned the half that my kf bro learned. I'm not sure if he undertook to learn the half that I was taught.

(i learned the spear half).

Anyway, Mr.Yan Kit went on to teach us each a spear set as well. All his stuff was Northern in Flavour although he did not tell us where the sets came from or what style they were derived from. The bow was taoist in nature though. (step forward, look left, sword finger salute)

The spear set in both the s vs dbs and the stand alone set had a really wicked opening to it. starting right after the bow it was a strike from the blunt end, cut up with the head then double spin it while turning/flipping in the air, landing and thrusting off one leg. Pretty cool opening. :)

I'd love to see hooks vs. twin broads. Beleive it or not, I've never seen a traditional hooks sparring set. As for my BSL lineage, Wing Lam doesn't have any twin broad sparring sets, but NS may have something more complete.

Ti T'ang translates to ground work. (I'm using Five Thousand Dictionary, C.H. Fenn, 10th Edition, Harvard University Press)

After reviewing your lyrics more carefully, your set is similar to ours but ours is longer. I'll have to review this closer and post the differences between the two. Just looking at it, we have an opening and after #23 we have more lyrics.

I mentioned on the outset of this lyric publishing venture that I was not using pinyin, but a subjective phonetic of Cantonese. This set would be ditang shuang dao in pinyin.

ns: Someday it would really be fun to get together and train. I would love to swap moves with you. My BSL is a little rusty now, since I'm exploring some other stuff, but I think it would be great fun.

Interesting. I learned a set similar to this (shorter) with two short iron rods. Basically the same without Female Immortal Sprinkles Flowers. Probably derived from this set.
