Wasn't it P.T. Barnum who said "There's a sucker born every minute."

It is very common to run out of breath in the learning stages of t'ai chi and chi kung (ie. the first 5 years or so). When this occurs, continue the movement completely and bring the mind through the body as if it were the breath. For instance, on a brush knee, if you are drawing breath from the earth, through the backleg, up the back and down the arm that is projecting, and you run out of breath when your mind has reached the shoulder, continue the projection as if you still had breath. (Don't panic!).

In a combat situation, you will not likely be coordinating full length breaths with applications anyways, so you should become comfortable completing movements without a breath left. You do not want the body to rely on the breath to complete or flow through a movement, however the breathing in coordination with movement is beneficial still in helping the body relax during forms as well as increasing the mind-body relationship.

What's the matter Gary? You don't believe in chi projection? I project that I will get two chi's in my face tonight.

Hopefully my wife won't be home late from work.

Was it Fu Pow who said "...sarcastic, inflamatory, condecending comments will not be tolerated"? Or wait, did he quote P.T. Barnum's "sucker born every minute" with the implication that this thread starter is a "sucker"?

For a "Taoist Humanist" he sure seems to be a wee bit full of contradictions. Maybe he's showing us the futility of argument through an example of dualistic Yin/Yang thinking. Thank you for enlightening us Fu Pow.

Oops! I'm being sarcastic, inflamatory, and condescending! I'm on his list! Wait a minute, does this mean he's on his own list?

What is a list anyway?

What is life?

How do I manifest the Taoist principle of effortlessness without effort and attain the immortal lotus mind?

See, it's working! :D

Was thinking last night, some dolphins and whales knock out their pray using sound waves -- so from a science perspective, a no touch blow is possible, at least in some mediums with some technique.
This said, I am 100% against the type of claims being made by individuals like the one in this months article. Not saying it can't be done, just very cautious when hearing such things. Maybe we should look to the sea. A sharp short power at a certain frequency? Just brainstorming.

If exhaled merely do the whatever on an inhale but think the action outwards.

Attain a Lotus mind? Have plants on the brain.

"PS. Scarlet Mantis: Like(sic) is EXACTLY what YOU make it to BE"

Nice thought in re positive thinking, but...

The woman who is raped and murdered on her way to her car after working the late shift....is her life exactly what she made it to be?

The child who is born with an incurable disease and will never see life past the age of 5...is his life exactly what he made it to be?

The list goes on and on...nice thought, but life is what life wants to be, if we are lucky we can figure out how we fit into it.

you may be hyperventilating. always a risk. that tibetan kung fu site has an article on that problem in its research papers section.

from it:
"But, what of hyperventilation, aren’t martial artists expert breathers?

At school, most people are taught that carbon dioxide, is just a waste gas, a
by-product of respiration, and therefore of no value to the body. This, is False. It turns out that C02 (carbon dioxide) is essential for maintaining a healthy mental and physical state"

" C02 is an acid. This acid,
helps to balance the alkalines within the body, and thus maintain a normal pH. (percentage hydrogen) value. The bodies first line of
maintenance of pH. is through regulation of breathing; if it is too acidic then C02 is ‘blown-off’ through an increase in respiration, if too alkaline, then respiration is reduced."
