Thought I'd get to know you guys a little better.

Here's all the people who have taught me. These are in chronological order, from earliest to latest, though the last two are concurrent:

Tom McGee, CMQ
Zhang Hongchao, Longfist
Garrick Palumbo, push hands
Chun Man Sit, Six Elbows
Mike Reyes, Six Elbows
Scott Johnson, sword

You'll note some of these people I haven't learned specific styles from, these are the people that helped shape who I am martially. How about you?

Got my start in CMQ
Then my Shaolin base from Master John Tsai's school in Norridge.
When he retired, I was under Master Steven Abbate
Priviate study under John Gramatis in his brand of Long Fist and Bagua

A number of training partners including a former Marine and Kempo pratitioner Russel Stones.

Tai Tzu under Sifu Edgar Livingston (Long distance couraspondance course)

More Shaoiln for Sifu Kathryn at Iron Fist (More of a review really)

Into to the internal arts through priviate study.

Reacently I started study of Kun Tao and Shui Chaio from Myunjae, a senior under our own "Monkey Slap Too"

I also have a passion for working stuff out of text books, and making it functional because people tell my you can't learn MA's that way and I like to prove them all worng just to be an A s s.

 :D

Started in TKD and Hapkido with Master J. Lee in Hurst, Texas. After I moved, I began learning Wing Tsun (E.B.M.A.S.) from SiHing Anthony Davis and occasionally SiHing Graham Weedon, the 2 Dallas/Fort Worth based instructors.

The ring, my insistence on repetition, and my powers of observation are my teachers.

I've had teachers of varying quality. Some were very good, some were only good. Each one had qualities that I liked and wanted to assimilate without utterly throwing away every time I moved on.

This year, I invented my own style and drills to bring all of that training together.

If I had to name somebody as my current "teacher", it would actually be a female kung fu disciple of mine who has been in lots of REAL fights and has emerged victorious from all of them. Her father is an ex-military man and has tons of experience that I hope to learn about.

My first sensei I only knew as sensei. He was a bouncer who ran a school for mostly Russian Jews in Philadelphia called "Olympic Karate". They were doing MMA...with a shotokan/kickboxing base for punching and kicking and sambo for grappling.

Spent a bit of time with Vut Kamnark - Muay Thai.

Sifu Wai Ming Chau - Wu Mui Kung Fu

Sifu Shi Yan Ming - Shaolin WuShu/ San Shou

Several Western Boxing instructors.

New York Kung Fu and Kickboxing for a few months - David Ross - San Shou.

Shin Budo Kai Aikido - Aikido, Genkido, Bokkendo, Jodo - Shizuo Imaizumi Sensei

That took 10 years as of April 2002.

Hey CSN, I think Paul was the person that Master John Wang referred me to when I contacted him about Shuai Chiao (he didn't give a last name). Actually I think we had tried to track down the phone number that he gave me.

Anyway, is the studio located in the southern or northern part of Austin.

I'd apologize for hijacking this thread but seeing as though KC started it I could really care less.

Big fat fake guy: Shaolin White Red Iron Kempratefushuimaitsu - I just combined the names of the styles he claimed to be a master of :D Red Dragon Karate, White Tiger Kungfu- changed to Iron Tiger Kungfu, Kempo, Wushu, Jujitsu, Escrima, Kun Tao, and a couple dozen other Kungfu styles all labled as "Shaolin" :D

Rick Jacobs: Modern Wushu (mostly Chang Quan, gun, and jian), 24 form Taiji Quan, a little tiny bit of Arnis, and some San Shou drills.

An Tian Rong: Modern Wushu(Chang Quan basics), Taiji Quan(currently studying), Mizong Quan(currently studying), Baji Quan, and Xingyi Quan. Also basic San Shou/self defence drills.

Gary Bauman(my dad):Basic self defence and Chin Na.

I also took one class with a local Hung Gar instructer(Tony Brown) and learned a Chung I Chuan form. Wish I could go back, but I'm too poor to study at more than one place :(

He's the guy on the left. Interestingly, we train Wing Chun at a different 7* mantis kwoon other than the guy who has this website.

EWallace:

I remember our onversation about that, and I think John Wang was referring to another Paul, a white guy who's name escapes me, who runs a garage school out of a place in S. Austin. Tai Chi People is next to the University. The two Pauls are pretty good friends, from what I can tell, though. Not long ago, Shifu Hwang talked about maybe organizing a friendly comp between the students of both men.

Garage? South Austin? Cool. As soon as I get a reliable second car I will go up to have a look-see.

That sucks that TCP is next to UT. There's no way in hell I could make it there at a reasonable time after work.
