View Full Version : I fought some guy in a bare knuckle challenge match

Dragon Warrior
07-11-2002, 08:41 AM
I was a the gym, and this kid comes up to me and asked if i was a blackbelt (i dont know how he knew i did martial arts), so i told him no. He then asked me how long i was training and i said 5 years. He then says to me "here's your opportunity," I was like "opportunity for what," he says "to test your skills."

So we walked into the aerobics room. He takes off his shoes and socks and starts to stretch. There was about 15 people watching from the gym. I was a little nervous because i had no idea how good this guy was.

We square off and right away I hit him in the arm with a front leg sidekick just to back him up. Then i faked the sidekick and threw an ax kick right across his face. He back up and switched his stance from right leg forward to left leg. So i stepped back with my right leg and nailed him with a rear leg roundhouse kick to his thigh. He buckled and then i rushed him with punches. I hit him with a left uppercut/hook to the stomach, and then a hook right to his face. Then he tapped out.

After the fight we shook hands. He is interested in joining my school now, lol.

Huh?

So, what you are saying is that you fought some guy you knew nothing about? Why?

This is ridiculous. Is there a point I'm missing, or did you just come on here to brag about beating some kid? Everyone here can beat some kid.

... unbelievable.

to initiator of thread. So the only thing this guy did against your blurring moves ( ) is "back up and switched his stance from right leg forward to left leg" ?? And you are bragging about this? I could go kick my little bro in the face, but I certainly wouldn't post it here.

Oh i don't really kick my brother in the face, well sometimes maybe. :D

No joke Gabriel, I work security at a place where groups of mentally challenged people come through and every once in a while we have to wrestle them to the ground and strap them to 'the board' to keep them from hurting themslevs and anyone else. IT has always taken 4-6 guys to do it!

Sure it's the same guy, ap? Maybe, we all have off days. But this post has no redeeming qualities to it whatever. If you know him, you might bring this to his attention- someone may have picked up on his monniker.

If it is him, most of the people here are a little tolerant (to my everlasting relief). So if his future posts come up to that 'valued member' quality I'm sure he'll be treated well. Ohterwise, there are tall tale forums and attitude forums all over the web.

Killa Priest is in the Wu Tang Clans crew.
There crew is very, very extensive.....
4th Disciple is a member of RZA's production company at Razor Sharp Records along with Mathematics, RZA & True Master, he is the primary producer for the Killarmy & Sunz Of Man, he is also a backup producer for the Wu-Tang Clan. He has produced the beats for a lot of tracks including 'Camouflage Ninjas', 'Wicked Wayz', 'Wu-Renegades', 'Clash Of The Titans', 'A Better Tomorrow' and a lot more. 4th Disciple made his album producing debut on Killarmy's 'Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars' and he did an incredible job on 15 of the albums 17 tracks, the other 2 were guest produced by The RZA.
Albums: Steel Valley Project (No. 1) (1999)

-9th Prince-
AKA: Madman, Prince Sadam, North Star, Iron Fingers
Killarmy MC and brother of Wu-Tang guru, The RZA. One of the original members of Killarmy (before ShoGun Assason and Beretta 9).

-12th Disciple-
MC. Close former affiliate to the Sunz Of Man.

-12 O'Clock-
AKA: Billy Box
12 O'Clock is connected to Wu-FAM, because he is real Wu-Family, he is Ol' Dirty *******'s little brother, but he doesn't like being linked to him and being refered to as 'Ol' Dirty's Brother'. 12 O'Clock is a member of many Wu groups (Brooklyn Zu, D.R.U.G., Two Da Road, and United Kingdom) and has a solo deal signed with the Def Jam label, he will be releasing a solo album very soon, it is said to feature a variety of production from The RZA, True Master & 4th Disciple, so it should be a dope album. 12 O'Clock appears with Raekwon on 'Nasty Immigrants' and appears with his brother on 'Ol' Dirty's Back'. 12 O'Clock appears with fellow Brookly Zu artists on 'Protect Ya Neck II The Zoo' from Ol' Dirty *******'s debut album 'Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version'.

-60 Second Assassin-
Sunz Of Man MC who has lent his vocals to many Wu albums (Ol' Dirty *******, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah). He is the cousin of The RZA.

-120-
MC. Associate of Darkim Be Allah, reportedly signed to "Protect Ya Neck" Records.

-A.I.G.-
AKA: Allah Is God
Group consisting of Darkim Be Allah, and AllahWise (aka Wise Wizard). Made their debut hit "Bronx War Stories" on "The Swarm" compilation.

-The Beggaz-
AKA: Begga Clan, Chi Saw Gang
Original roster has changed over the years but current members include Buddah Hava, FFather Lord (aka Wu Chi [RIP]), Magic Sword, Master Beggar, Ohh Ahh Swordsman, Persian Killer, Samo Heung, Scorpion, and Short Axe. As a unit they are part of the supergroup United Kingdom.

-Beretta 9-
AKA: Born God Allah
Ohio MC who later joined Killarmy.

-Black Ice-
New group signed to Ghostface's "Starks Enterprises" label. Their first single "Every Nite of the Summer" features Ghostface himself, along with R&B group XL.

-Black Knights-
Group consisting of Crisis The Drunken Swordsman, Doc Doom (aka War God), Monk, and Warclout (aka Dr. Killgrave, Holocaust). Wu-Fam group from California, debuted with two tracks on 1998's "The Swarm" compilation under the combined name Black Knights of the North Star (alongside fellow California group North Star)..

-Black Moezart-
AKA: Mo The Barber
Producer who's work includes tracks by Ghostface Killah and Shyheim. Rumored to be Ghostface's own barber.

-Blue Raspberry-
Female vocalist who can be heard on many Wu tracks. Her first appearances was on were on Method Man's "Tical".

-Booster-
Reggae artist popularly known for his appearance on "Bring The Pain". Booster also featured on Method Man's sop****re album on the track "Cradle Rock".

-Brooklyn Zu-
Group consisting of 12 O'Clock, Buddha Monk, Cherokee Chief, Shorty **** Stain, and Zu Keeper.
They are connected to Ol' Dirty *******, Buddah Monk appears in ODB videos and appeared on his solo album 'Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version'. The Br'klyn Zu is a family just like the Clan, they are sorta the Brooklyn wing of Wu-Tang, Ol' Dirty ******* considers himself a member of the Br'klyn Zu, but not in any offical capacity as does Shabazz The Disciple & 62nd Assassin. The Manchuz are also members of the Br'klyn Zu, but are a group in themselves. The album will be produced by Lord Buddah Monk & Ol' Dirty *******. Their first release was a 12" single featuring The Manchuz, 'Gots Like Come On Through' / 'Nitemare On Zu Street'. In 1998 Buddah Monk later remixed the main track and thrown in an appearance from Ol' Dirty ******* to make 'Gots Like Come On Through' (The New Version), it debuted on the soundtrack to the smash-hit film 'The Big Hit', and the track was accompanied by a video. Collectively part of the United Kingdom project.

-Buddha Monk-
AKA: Lord Buddha Monk
Brooklyn Zu MC and Producer. Buddha Monk is also a solo artist and has produced tracks for Ol' Dirty ******* and Popa Wu.
Albums: The Prophecy (1998)

-Cappadonna-
real name: Darryl Hill
also known as: Cappachino, Cappashogun, Cappadon, Donnamite, Poppi Wardrobe King, Donna CappaGoines, Cappa Shogun, Jay Bird, Catalog Don.

Cappadonna used to be the primary 'Guest' rapper on all Wu-Tang albums, after a while he became the official 10th member, his contribution to Ghostface Killah's 'Ironman' earned him a subtitle on the albums cover. Cappadonna also guest raps on the second Wu-Tang Clan album 'Wu-Tang Forever' in tracks like 'Triumph' & 'For Heavens Sake'. He also has a promo track which has had a lot of rotation, but never was officialy released, which featured Ghostface Killah called '97 Mentality'.
'He is not member of the Wu Tang Clan anymore, but he forms part of Wu Tang Productions. He never signed on Loud like the other members, therefore he's free. He decided to release The Yin and The Yang, while occurring from our direction and our production. For us it was a bad idea, but he preferred to follow the opinion of his label rather than our. And when the question of his participation in the new Wu Tang project was on the table, the opinions were shared. It was a difficult decision to take but in the end we decided to refuse.' -RZA. That's why Cappa is wu fam again and not an official member.
Cappa's first CD 'The Pillage' was released in 1998 and his last album 'Yin & The Yang ' was released in 2001.
[Discography] [Pictures]

-Carlton Fisk-
Carleton Fisk made his first appearance with Method Man on the popular track 'P.L.O. Style' taken from the album 'Tical', he appeared again on the same album in the track 'Mr Sandman'. He has also appeared on a radio freestyle alongside Street Life, Method Man and Inspectah Deck.Carleton Fisk follows a similar path to fellow Wu-FAMer Street Life, he has yet to make any exclusive solo material and has yet to secure a record deal. It is presumed that Carleton Fisk is connected to Method Man, but has also made appearances with Inspectah Deck, Raekwon & Street Life on various freestyles and interviews. Very little is known about Carleton Fisk, but he definitely has skills and it'd be great to hear some real material from this rapper.

-Cilvaringz-
Dutch MC (and partime Producer). Also a member of the Lin Brotherz. Cilvaringz has a large Internet following mostly due to his willingness to talk to fans and continuous promotions. The first non-American to have signed with Wu-Tang.
Albums: The Mental Chambers (2001)

Props to Born Invincible

-Clocka-
AKA: Clocka Dot
MC. Close affiliate to Remedy, and Othorized F.A.M.

-Culture-
Vocalist of sorts. First came to light on Cappadonna's "The Yin And The Yang". Signed to Ghostface's "Stark Enterprises"; also Ghost's cousin.

-Cuffie Crime Family-
Group which first came into light with the release of the Popa Wu albums. Members include Jet Black, Freemurder (aka Lil Free), and ShaCronz. Freemurder also made a guest appearance on Cappadonna's "The Yin And The Yang".

-Darkim Be Allah-
aka: DB Allah, Donnie Banks, T-Big
Notes: Producer and MC who first came into light on "The Swarm" compilation.
Albums: Live At The Lab: Take 1 (2000)

-DJ Allah Mathematics-
DJ Mathematics is the head DJ for the Wu-Tang Clan. He is probably one of the closest Wu-Family members, he has been down with Wu-Tang since the very beginning, and I mean the beginning, Mathematics was the guy that designed the infamous Wu-Tang logo, the 'W'. RZA asked him to do make it like, quick, bare in mind that this was when the Wu-Tang were marketing 'Protect Ya Neck' from RZA's basement, so there were no graphic designers involved in the Wu-Tang logo. Everything was done in the family. Mathematics is also a member of RZA's production company at Razor Sharp Records.

-Dreddy Kruger-
aka: Dutchmaster
Royal Fam and United Kingdom MC who also has connections within the Sunz Of Man. Dreddy has recorded tracks with many Wu artists (Gravediggaz, GZA/Genius) and also some European artists also (IAM). Unconfirmed reports say that Dreddy Kruger has recorded an album called "Nightmare In Hell".

..............................

Killah Priest-
AKA: Masada, Iron Sheik, Lord Messiah
Sunz Of Man MC and popular solo artist. Killah Priest's claim to fame are his super-complex religious tinged lyrics. Once teamed with Shabazz The Disciple as the duo Disciples of Armageddon. KP is also balancing his solo career between committments with the Sunz Of Man, The Maccabees, United Kingdom and The Four Horsemen. Click here for a KP bio.
Albums: Heavy Mental (1998); View From Masada (2000); Priesthood (2001)

Good for him.

are the rest of you retarded?

He was using those kicks to feel him our and keep him at bay. After the roundhouse to the leg he did a body punch that probably folded him and I'm guessing there wasn't too much heat on the hook.

For his ability, it was probably, the nicest thing he could have done.

I think he did the right thing.

Yeah some guy I didn't even know just walked up to me while I was doing stair stepper exercises in my spandex workout pants and he thought I was a black belt and wanted to beat me up. Well, I'm a martial arts warrior so I'm not gonna stand for that! So we went to the aerobics room and proceeded to fight. Well I opened up with a string of punch-thai kick combos and closed into the clinch to knee him but he just laughed at every shot i landed and said that it tickled him. Then I tried to grapple him but he picked me up by the ankles and shook the money out of my pockets and took it all. Still holding onto my ankles, he spun me around and around, building up momentum until he finally let go, sending me crashing into the wall on the other side of the room. My back hit the wall so hard that the logo of my "karate master" t-shirt was imprinted on the dent that I left. He then picked me up by the neck with both hands and started shaking and strangling me in midair until I saw stars. Then he took my shoes, and the sandwich that I had packed for lunch and left. All the girls who had gathered to watch in the aerobics room started laughing and pointing at me, calling me a wimp and a nerd. I couldn't contorl myself so I ran away crying. But, oh well. I've complained to the gym manager about the bully problem. Next time I'm going to bring my big brother. He's big and he's strong and he's a Marine! He'll teach that crummy bully a lesson. You just wait and see.

Now this is one jacked up post.

BTW there is no one better in Wu-Tang than Method Man. They did an appearance on Mad TV this year, and the crowd was mostly sedate until Meth starting spittin' lyrics. I'll most certainly post my photo with him for the curious or the haters.

Now for that TKD Ax Kick, I can tell you I tried to use one against my sister when we were both kids. I ended up in a heap on the floor, and didn't even make contact. Unless you can bring that Ax kick down as fast as someone can throw a high Round kick, my advice would be NEVER USE IT AGAIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES . Not even some geeky martial arts tv show.

But I totally agree in with the axe kick comment. There isn't a

"Then i faked the sidekick and threw an ax kick right across his face."

An axe kick across his face? Don't you mean down onto his shoulders, clavicles or something like that? Maybe you meant a wheel kick, or crescent.

I'm always getting chicks somehow noticing that I'm a real stud. They take me into the aerobics room and make me do awful things. That's when they realize that it's me, Lance Uranus, porn star from outerspace!

Killah Priest... King of Sodom
Landed on a sick canvas
Now I roam this dead planet, head bandaged
Insane, preachin God's commandment, feel me

I move through the dark rages, and won't stop
til we even, until you bleedin, until you stop breathin
Givin careers a severe beatin
for MCing; it's something
that I don't take lightly, how the **** you ever invite me
to a duel, I drool
Before I break fool, then I drag MC's
Beat em down to they knees, grab your necks and SQUEEZE
til there's no life left, they lifeless
Then micless, what a crisis
I give them a good night's rest
I break they biceps, and triceps, thighs and necks
Breast area, is the best area
Before I bury ya, I make sure that you never
ever, ever, ever, try that **** no more
KnowhatI'msayin? (Word is bond!)
Your ambition, put you in that ****ed up condition
Leave you with your own conviction, **** was not fiction
Now you in a state of non-fiction
Make you beg for mercy, if you ever approach me
I blow your head off, when I talk, chop off your arms
and bash your head in, you know where this **** is headin
for a dead-end, stop your sweatin
like Otis Reading, got your pants wettin
Snuck up on you at your wedding, at your honeymoon, turn that ****
into doom, turn your rap cass-ettes, into your ****ing caskets
You God **** *******s
Lyrics I mastered, rhymes burns like acid

[Ol' Dirty *******]
I'm complete analyzer of your entire eye
Debut not told to crawl, so walk on by
I'm the insect in your pie, the hair to your lie
Do good to you mind; your question to your why?
The wing to your fly, bone to your high
The Dirt Dog, I be the God; the tear to your cry
I drop in it, cleanse the Earth's
My place to birth strong, gave me the eye

[Killah Priest]
The fatal brave to grave, the ceremonies
from religious cults, half man and half goat
Tomorrow hopes, based on the horoscopes
We followed goats, our nose and hella smoke
Fire breathin dragons, I rubbed the gold lantern
to the see the future, through the crystal ball
The triple walls of fisher wants to miss the fall
Offence, see the coffin, often
I fell at the doorstop coughin, I heard the pipe organ (cough)
Saw some men of a white origin
I saw Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush
Barefoot, sucking from the titties of a wolf
Upon the brazen altar, six men
offer they only daughter splashin holy water
I ran for the, camcorders, now I'm plagued with curses
I roam the Earth's surface, snatchin purses
Allergic to catholic churches, what's the purpose
Religious worship, is worthless
I visit ancient sanctuaries, where the saints were married
But now they buried cause of Satan's fury, I faced the jury
Held in court, like Christ nailed to a cross
Confront my knowledge, like Christ in front of Pontius Pilate
Days of violent, standing in a haunted palace
The government wants my wallet

I would like to respond to a few things.

First of all, a lot of you probably dont recognize me, i used to post on this forum a lot in the past, i havent had time lately because i have been busy training working and finishing school, and also because the threads just got stupid. I don't know why my profile says i only have 14 posts, i actually have a few hundred.

The reason i posted this last thread is because i figured other kung fu stylist would be interested in a fight, the techniques i used, etc. Instead most of you are interesed in the garbage that is usually posted on this site.

A lot of you doubt the fact that i used the ax kick. Well i can understand why, but you have to understand something. When we first squared off, right away i hit him with a sidekick that he "blocked" with his arm (it hit him right on his tricep, which was pressed against his ribs) , but he definitely felt the power behind it. I dont know how many of you actually SPAR, but the few of you that do know what that can feel like from somebody with a strong sidekick (ecspecially if you are not used to it). Right away i intimidated him with that kick, when i faked the sidekick the second time, he flinched and got himself prepared for it, that is when i hit him with the ax.

Also, someone said i was stupid for using the axe kick in a self defense situation. Well this wasnt a self defense situation, it was more like a ring fight. And i have used my axe kick many times in tournements including the wong fei hung tournement in new jersey and the kung fu bash (or something like that) in brooklyn. Both of these tournaments are continious fighting and it seems to land on trained fighters in competition, why wouldnt it land on some ****ty fighter in a gym.

One of my best weapons is my right leg, i have a strong side kick, and rear leg roundhouse kick, and i know it. I have total confidence in those two kicks, and i used them to my advantage.

I havent posted here in a while because i was sick of all the bull**** threads, and did not want to contribute to the bull****. Something happened to me that was worth posting about. I got into a fight and actually utilized my martial arts training. Is this so hard to believe. Is it so hard to beleive that some meathead in the gym doubted my training.

Was i wrong to fight him? I dont think so. I train to fight, if someone thinks i can't fight, i think i have the right to show him i can.

when i used to post on here, i always asked other members if they would like to get together and spar. I love to test my ability, and learn from experiences.

Dragon Warrior, there are two types of martial artists:

those that do it and those that DON'T.

You fall into the former category, everybody else who doubts you falls into the latter.

I would love to see what happened if anybody here that thought you were making this up dared to face you. You'd break out the can of Whoop-ass and start breaking people!

Of course your response has nothing to do with martial arts, it's just another one of your stupid remarks.

Or simply side-stepping it and sweeping the supporting leg.

I'd never recommend simply bringing the leg straight up then straight down, its far too much telegraphing.

However, the axe kick, if used in conjunction with a crescent kick, can be quite effective. All one needs is the right amount of flexibility and speed, and that can only come about through training.

For me. The problem with the thread started here. I don't know about everyone else, but this is all that was mentioned about the personality of the challenger. To me this almost sounded like a friendly sparring match challenge, with someone who may (or may not) have lesser skills than you. You then took him into the aerobics room and went Helter Skelter on him. Lol. I wasn't really surprised at the level of feedback you were getting.

With your last post however, I'm getting more the impression that he was trying to be a bit more intimidating and bullyish than you had originally written. Axe kick, or no axe kick ... fantasy or reality ... I don't care one way or another. Stupid people do stupid things. That's what makes them stupid. I wasn't there, so I can't accurately comment on the level of your stupidity.

However, I do take exception to the notion that entering into a contest of this sort simply because someone challenged your ego is somehow admirable. This shows weak character.

People are all too willing to embrace this approach. They do so because they have no concept of the meaning of violence. They learn about violence from movies, TV, and video games. It makes a good movie if someone walks into a studio and starts bad-mouthing one of the students, so he beats him in a bare-knuckle challenge. This has no place in the real world.

Real violence sucks. Check into my background and see if I know what violence is about. Some people would admire me for this fact, but I would give it up in a heartbeat. If you still have an appetite for violence, you don't understand it, or you are sick.

If you accept a bare-knuckle challenge simply because someone challenges your ego, you must be insecure about your abilities and need to train more. Testing one's abilities against others' is an important part of training, but this match appears to have been just foolish ego-clashing.

Waitaminute.

Brent Carey, you say you don't do violence and yet you're willing to call somebody here "STUPID" or say that he has "weak character" or has "no concept of the meaning of violence"?

In my book, that's called "asking for trouble". Nonviolence or not, calling people stupid is going to get you in trouble. I don't have a problem with this stuff (nor with you - I deeply respect your posts), but a whole lot of others more belligerent than me WILL.

I'll call others (e.g. Serpent) on KFO "stupid", but that's because he's been attacking me repeatedly and because I'd willingly defend myself against him if he came after me in real life.

There comes a point when a man will defend himself if put to the test.

OK, relax. I wondered if someone would take that wrong. It has to be taken quite literally. What I said was, "Stupid people do stupid things. That's what makes them stupid. I wasn't there, so I can't accurately comment on the level of your stupidity."

Which translates to "stupid is as stupid does". I very carefully did not call anyone "stupid". I even pointed out that I wasn't there so I can't accurately comment. If the situation happened as described, I have to say there was at least a fair amount of stupidity in the room. We all do stupid things, myself included (or perhaps especially).

I also did not say that he had weak character. I did say that entering into a contest of this sort simply because someone challenged your ego shows weak character.

My comments about violence were intended to use the word "you" to mean "one". If one has an appetite for violence, it indicates to me that he either doesn't really know violence or is sick. Maybe this is a reactionary position based on my atypical experiences.

I was not denouncing the person, only the actions. Especially since I don't really believe the event took place as described anyway. To wit, who was in charge at this gym, where were they, and why would they take this insurance (and potentially criminal) risk?

In my book, that's called "asking for trouble". Nonviolence or not, calling people stupid is going to get you in trouble. I don't have a problem [...], but a whole lot of others more belligerent than me WILL.
I'm not sure what kind of trouble I could possibly ask for here, but that is not my intention. My intention is to clearly remonstrate against the common mentality that encourages this sort of exchange.

There comes a point when a man will defend himself if put to the test.

Defending oneself and being put to a test are two separate tasks. If one allows oneself to be forced into a test, he has already been defeated at least once.

I learned this lesson by the time I was 8 or 9. My brother would pester me continuously but not touch me. It drove me nuts. His whole goal was to get me to blow up and attack him so I would get in trouble. I learned that as soon as he forces me to respond, he has already won half the battle. It takes more strength to resist the urge to respond to antagonism.

My point with this whole issue is that it degrades the martial arts community (and society in general) to boast about giving into some stranger's hollow and meaningless challenge. It does even more damage to praise the person who boasts.

If he had come on and described the same situation, but instead reported that he just laughed, shrugged, and walked away, or better yet, made some clever verbal come back - that would have been praiseworthy.

Even if he had described that this person physically attacked him and he successfully and economically defended, that would have been praiseworthy.

I stand by my assertion that giving into this challenge displays weak character, and that most of the actions described are "stupid". I looked the word up:

stupid-

1) Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
2) Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
3) Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
4) Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.

Pretty well fits the situation across the board. As I said, I am not denouncing the individual because I don't know anything about him. I can comment on the story however, fictitious or not.

Best regards,

-Brent

Brent Carey, the bottom line is that YOU WEREN'T THERE.

This match had no physical nor legal repercussions. This person "physically attacked him and he successfully and economically defended." In short, Dragon Warrior is "praiseworthy" and not "stupid" by your own terms.

Do you REALLY think a well-trained and legally aware martial artist like Dragon Warrior would have fought this kid if the repercussions you rightfully worry about were in the brewing? He would've sensed it long before the kid even approached him! Nobody got hurt, nobody got sued, and nobody even hated each other afterwards. You're like a thief entering an empty house!

I don't know what life experiences you've had, Brent Carey, but I'm an Asian American who was forced to defend myself repeatedly growing up. The only way I could've walked away from those fights was by hiding in my house and not going to school. You clearly never dealt with this kind of experience, so you do not understand in the least bit what it's like when somebody comes for you with intent to MAIM and won't stop till he gets his shot at you.

I'll say it again: your insistence on calling guys like Dragon Warrior "stupid" is as good as a challenge to many. For your sake, choose your actions carefully if those are the words you wish to use about others.

HuangKaiVun, just because someone isn't Asian doesn't mean that they "do not understand in the least bit what it's like when somebody comes for you with intent to MAIM and won't stop till he gets his shot at you."

HuangKaiVun
07-18-2002, 07:35 AM
No disagreement with your post here, ewallace.

But what I am sick of is guys on KFO who DON'T practice kung fu trashing those who DO.

This topic could've been an interesting discussion on restraint and technique, just as Dragon Warrior originally intended. Instead, it became a forum for the novices to flame a guy who clearly DOES have the kung fu ability.

And one other thing: Many fights you just CAN'T WALK AWAY FROM - and that's why I brought up my Asian-American argument. Brent Carey seems to intimate that one can. Unfortunately, all of his well-intentioned advice to turn the other cheek would've left him sprawled out with black eyes on the school pavement. Try walking away from 5 guys who are trying to kick your butt in the 3rd grade.

Dragon Warrior is a guy who clearly practices kung fu. This is not a guy I'd ever want to mess with, and I practice my kung fu too. Those that think that he's talking junk don't have the ability to do what he did: fight with true restraint in a respectful challenge match. Only a TRULY SKILLED fighter could do that without hurting or even offending his opponent.

Those who spend their time flaming Dragon Warrior should spend more time PRACTICING so that they can be like him.

ewallace
07-18-2002, 07:42 AM
Understandable. I agree that you can't always turn the other cheek.

I really don't see that much of a problem if the story went down the way it was said by the author. It's not like DW was walking down a dark alley and accepted some fight to the death bare knuckled challange. Some people want to put their skills to the test and others don't.

It is very understandable to me why so many questioned the story. Dragon Warrior might have posted some time ago, but when someone shows up on the boards and posts something like this, and it's one of the member's first few posts, it will certainly come under fire.

And for the record, I personally wouldn't have used the axe kick no matter how effective or comfortable with it I may be. I don't belive the risk outweighs the reward.

HuangKaiVun
07-18-2002, 07:59 AM
A well-placed axe kick is a very hard thing to deal with.

Because I'm smaller than my opponents, guys in Tae Kwon Do would routinely throw long looping RESTRAINED axe kicks that I'd have to get out of the way of. Their massive height advantage allowed them to kick me that way without compromising their balance. They'd try to kick me on the upswing AND the downswing when I came into range.

If any of those had landed, I'd have been in serious PAIN. Besides, this little sparring exhibition was not intended to cause serious damage to body nor ego.

Axe kicks in the context of sparring can be very useful to let the opponent know that you just GOT HIM!

brent ... accepting a challange of this type doesn't make you stupid. it just means that you are willing to take a little more punishment than others while crossing hands. ill agree that if the event took place the way he described his post title was not consistant with the event, but we are on page 5 of the thread. someone said hey lets spar and he said cool . .. wtf is wrong with that. i don't see how that displays anything about his character one way or the other.

huang ... the point is that dw could have walked away from this fight. he wasn't attacked and it wasn't a situation where he had to stay at home. he could have politely declined. i also don't understand how you can feel so sure that he's the real deal unless you know him or are him. he could be the real deal as you say or just some punk kid making up stories on the net to tickle his ego or sense of humor. am i the only one who can read this objectively and really not give a flying fu ck one way or the other? the guys who are vehemently insisting that it didn't happen are no better either. who fu ckin knows?

yes. It was really only bad for 3 or 4 days. Some have it worse. I gaurantee you one thing though, if you have a smoke right now, it will taste like absolute crap, and you will feel very, very ashamed. The feeling you have now will not last. You may wake up tomorrow and not want one at all. Think about how clean you feel after not smoking all day. If you have nothing to do and are sitting around thinking about having a smoke, find something to do. If there are stairs in your building at work go walk/jog a few flights. If you sit around thinking about a smoke sooner or later you will convince yourself it's okay.

Do you really want to throw away three days work? Remember, if you smoke now you have to start over and go thru this crap from the beginning.

I went through withdrawl for about two weeks. Then I noticed my sense of smell and taste had returned, and I swear... what a wonderful thing it was. I'd run around smelling and eating pretty much anything I could get my hands on for like the next two weeks after.

After the first two weeks were up, I didn't have any withdrawl for about 6 months, when inexplicably, I woke up in the middle of the night craving a smoke. I went back to sleep and when I woke up, it had passed.

It's been two and a half years now, and I still get a craving every once in a while, but they're very easy to push aside now. Even smelling someone else smoke near me is enough to make me leave the area.

Anyway... I can vouch that while it is freaking hard to do (One of the hardest things I ever had to do), you are DEFINITELY through the absolute worst of it... the first two days were ****ed near hell for me.

I can also vouch that it is WELL worth quitting.

HuangKaiVun,

This is the last time I'm going to respond to you on this subject. You are obviously not paying attention to my replies, or are reading something into them just to get yourself worked up.

Do a little research before you start endorsing or codemning people. What do you really know about Dragon Warrior or me? You obviously are emotionally invested in this subject because you have said some things that just don't make any sense otherwise.

We have crossed paths a few times in the last few days, so I decided to read your last several posts. I see that this is pretty much what you do. About half of your posts are personal attacks, about a fourth don't have much MA content at all, and the other fourth has some MA content.

Recently you rebuked another member for not being constructive, yet at least 3/4 of your posts are simply negative remarks about other members or the points made. Glass houses my friend.

I'm not going to bother to explain my point on this subject again because you seem to want to read your own message into it. I'm not for or against anyone in this scenario. As I pointed out (and you felt the need to repeat), I was not there. Neither were you.

However, the situation as described suggests several conditions that I have already explained. Yes, one has the right to defend oneself, but defending one's ego in this manner makes a poor statement about one's character.

I'll say it again: your insistence on calling guys like Dragon Warrior "stupid" is as good as a challenge to many. For your sake, choose your actions carefully if those are the words you wish to use about others.
I know this is not a threat. If anything you see online makes you this upset, you need to reexamine your relationship with reality.

Brent,

I can see why you think i was defending my "ego," but actually it wasnt like that. If you are a basketball player, and some guy thinks he can beat you, and you play him, are you defending your "ego?" Are tournements ego also?

It seems like people are curious why there was no blood, or serious damage in this fight.

The reason for this is because i did not let him dictate the fight. I had total control the entire time. If i allowed him to start throwing wild fast punches, there may have been more damage done to either one of us. But it was the intimidation factor that stopped him from swinging wild . The first sidekick was enough to do it.l

KungFuGuy:

there is no reason for me to try and prove to you that this actually happened. Things like this do happen a lot. My good friend's girlfriend works at Golds gym, and i go there sometimes for free. when i was leaving once she told some guy that i did martial arts and right away the kid said he wanted to spar me. He said that he was a "scrapper," and i didnt have enough size to beat him. She told me about this after i left. If i was there when he was saying this i would have sparred him.

One of my other friends has a friend that does JKD, he told him that one of his friends trains in shaolin, and right away he says he wants to spar me, and "that snake and mantis **** dont work," or something like that. I told him to tell him to come and meet me, i would love to spar him. I havent met him yet but when i do i gaurantee we spar.

Should i even bother posting what happened when i meet this jkd guy, or am i gonna get ridiculed for trying to feed my "ego."

If DW is into this sort of thing...fine. It sounds like it is just a way to test his skill level. Whilst I am not in the practice of accepting challenges left, right and centre I respect his choices.

I think the thing that started most disagreements was the manner in which the encounter was portrayed. I'm sorry to say it did sound a bit ego-driven. But, how can any of us tell if ego had anything to do with it? I guess we are so used to trolls and turkeys that we automatically assume the worst.

Finally, I haven't seen anything in BrentCarey's posts that should p!ss anyone off. The man's just giving his opinion and whilst some may not agree you gotta respect his point of view.

OK. I believe you. As you explained more in later posts the picture changed. I'm not faulting you specifically for anything. I was just commenting on the story as I understood it.

Basically, I was just saying if such-and-such happened then this is my opinion on the matter. If you entered a contest just to defend your ego, I feel this demonstrates weak character. If it didn't happen like that, then I can't comment on it because I don't know how it happened.

However, yes, I have to state that tournaments (and the basketball scenario) are ego-based. Competitiveness in general is based on the ego. I'm not going to try to discount competition or say that anytime ego affects a decision, it reflects weak character. I am saying that anytime ego overrides logic, it reflects weak character.

You are the only one that was there and can decide if ego overrode logic. The difference between a martial arts challenge and a basketball challenge is the very real possibility of serious injury. The challenger may have been really good with a mind to do some real damage. Without knowing anything else about him, there was a serious risk involved.

There is nothing wrong with taking that risk as long as it is calculated and the decision to take it is not governed by pride and ego. There is simply not enough information for me to make that determination, and it's not my place anyway.

Brent

Fair enough. Sounds like you do know how to throw your right kicks. I've never had an opponent attempt an ax-kick before, I can't imagine it being that effective against someone with any training. Have you pulled it off much in sparring, or against any good fighters? Didn't sound like this geezer was up to much.

Also, out of interest, would you say it's an easy kick to control, or were you in fact risking serious repercussions?

BTW, with your posting style, your first post did sound a little egotistical. You might say, well, who the hell am I to say so, fair enough, but I watched this thread develop, and interested as I am in fighting, it turned me off from the start. Just my opinion, no offence meant.

Mat, MOST of the greatest COMPLETE violinists in history (guys that could play any music written for the instrument - very few of these today) were in my size range.

If one's arms are too long to play the violin (and the violin is a LITTLE) instrument, he can't get proper leverage to pull a big powerful tone.

If his fingers are too small, he has problems hitting the notes. When more than one note is played together, fingers that are too meaty or too long will get in the way.

There's a tradeoff between being too small and too large. The best range for violin is the 5'2" - 5'8" range, depending on hand and elbow size.

I don't believe you know me. I don't believe you know Dragon Warrior either.

I'll call others (e.g. Serpent) on KFO "stupid", but that's because he's been attacking me repeatedly and because I'd willingly defend myself against him if he came after me in real life.

It seems to me that you are more often than not the one who adopts an over-offensive tone on this forum. As for 'real life': been there much? Seems like you're in a paranoid delusion with statements like this.

You clearly never dealt with this kind of experience, so you do not understand in the least bit what it's like when somebody comes for you with intent to MAIM and won't stop till he gets his shot at you.

Dragon Warrior's story didn't sound like this situation to me. And has anyone really tried maiming you Huang? Serpent perhaps, when he comes for you... Careful Serpie...

With any luck he just disappeared up his own arsehole. Probably too much to hope for though... ;)
