Does anyone have any historical information on Leung Tien Chu ( He fought and won in the 1928 competition in Nanking I believe ) and his Grandson Wong Tim Yuen ?

I understand Wong Tim Yuen taught Shaolin in San Francisco at 880 Sacramento St. back in the 70's or 80's.

I would like to know exactly what style they practiced, any other practitioners in the lineage etc.

Thank You :)

Thanks so much !

Do you know where I can contact any practitioners of this style ?

I believe some of my Kung Fu comes from either Leung Tim Chu or Wong Tim Yuen (San Francisco.
We perform:
- Lin Wan Kuen
- Mang Gu Ha Sahn ......etc..

Many of our forms come from the Northern Shaolin Master Ma Kim Fung, but I know some of our forms must come from Leung Tim Chu or T.Y. Wong.

I would like to meet practitioners of Leung Tim Chu's and T.Y. Wong's style to compare notes and see which forms come from them.

Thanks

Does anyone have any background info on Leung Tim Chu / Leung Tien Shu ? I understand he combined Hung Gar, Choy Lee Fut and other Southern Styles back in the 1920's or 1930's.

Any info about history, lineages or practitioners of his style would be helpful.

Following the death of his master at the age of 80 years, Hue Lung Gong became a teacher and one of his foremost students was Leong Tin Chee, the nephew of Leong Sil jung. The meeting of student and teacher had been coincidental. Leong Tin Chee had heard from traveling merchants that his uncle was teaching in Woung-Nam Province and had hoped to fulfill a life-long ambition to study under his famous relative. Although he was saddened to learn of his uncle's death, leong Tin Chee remained in Woung-Nam and , until he was 40 years old, studied under Hue Lung Gong.
Having completed his training, leong Tin Chee returned to his native Kwang-Sai Province to teach. Traveling from province to province, he opened many schools where his skill as a teacher was in great demand. One of his most promising pupils was Wong Tim Yuen who studied under Leong Tin Chee for ten years. When Wong Tim Yuen went to the United States at the age of twenty-six, he was the first known practitioner to bring the Sil Lum system of Kung fu.

The word Sil Lum means 'young forest'. A young forest has resilience -- its limbs can give with a strong wind and rebound with force. Thus is the essence of the art of Sil Lum Kung fu.

Another legendary pioneer and outstanding
exponent of the Sil Lum system of Kung fu
was a monk by the name of Leong Sil Jung.
Sil jung entered the Sil Lum monastery at the
age of ten years. After spending some 50
years in meditation and training of the mind,
body and spirit, it was said that he descended
from the monastery to teach in the world.
Shortly thereafter he entered Soung-Nam
province and learned about a wealthy
nobleman who had been searching for a
competent Kung fu teacher for his frail and
sickly son, Hue Lung Gong. Upon meeting the
father, Sil Jung consented to teach the boy.
The father built a school and for the next ten
years his son practiced Sil Lum Kung fu
under the expert tutelage of Leong Sil Jung. http://husky.arts.unimelb.edu.au/intapps/1998/ningzi_weng/history2.htm

The Flying Dragon/Tiger Gate system, also known as the Fei Lung Fu Mun, brought to the United States by late Lui Yon Sang (Lei Ren Sheng) of Guang Zhou, China. Lui was a native of Toishan and had lived in New York City as a Traditional Chinese Medical doctor and herbalist. On the side, Lui taught some of New York’s top masters of martial arts his specailty system, known as Fei Lung Fu Mun. Lui’s art was not widespread and to learn it, one had to become a disciple. One must have performed the "Bai Si" ritual in order to gain entry. As a result, Lui only taught a select group of disciples his specialty, including Chan Bong (David Chan), Lee Gok Chung (Thomas Lee), Chan Jim, David Wong, myself and others.

Lui was 80 years old when I met him. Although practically unheard of in the West, Lui was famous throughout China during his lifetime. This was because of his knowledge presented in a long running series of articles during the 1980’s in China’s famous martial arts magazine "Wu Lin" ("Martial World"). So famous was he, he was named the "Nan Fang Gun Wang" ("King of the Southern Staff").

In the Filipino martial arts, it is common for a system of martial arts that involve weaponry. Chinese martial arts are also famous for their weaponry, but unlike most Chinese martial arts systems, Fei Lung Fu Mun primarily consists of weaponry skills. Weaponry skills are taught first, then progress to empty hand skills. Lui, during his youth, was taught by the famous Leung Tien Chiu. Leung was a champion boxer, who at 55 years old, entered a tournament in Nanjing in the 1920’s and won 2nd place in open class full contact Lei Tai fighting (no protective gear, and winner throws the loser off the stage). Leung was famous for his mastery of many systems that included Wing Chun, Hung Gar, Choy Lay Fut and other Shaolin Fist systems. Leung Tien Chiu later created his own systems, which his disciples later passed on called "Fut Gar Kuen" (Buddhist Fist boxing), and another system called "Sae Ying Diu Sao" (Snake Form Mongoose Hands) which was featured in an old Jackie Chan movie. This was the source of Lui’s boxing system. Lui also studied with a Manchurian named Gwong Sai Lung. Gwong was famous for his pole and spear techniques that came from the Yang family. His pole set was known as the "Fei Lung Fu Gwun", an ostentacious name which summed up his feelings for the staff. It was so named because the movements were as graceful as a flying dragon, and as powerful as a tiger.
