Guys I need your help.I have a friend that lives in San Francisco and she wanted to take a martial art.I told her that I help her find a good school but I never been there. There's some good kung fu schools there but I can't find any info on them. Can any one help?

Since I heard there's a lot of southern schools in california I thougth it would be fitting to post it here.A web site or address would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi NM,
What's your friend's backgound in the Martial Arts? Absolute beginner, experienced (if so what style?) etc. What style do you think she might like (hard core fighting, Tai Chi, etc)

Long time we talked.Well she's an abo****e beginner but she knew about Eskrima and Arnis since she's Filipina and it's advertised on t.v. a lot so it caught her attention because it's of Filipino origin. She told me she always wanted to take MA but she never got a chance to.

Being the biased person that I am I offered to help her find a kung fu school. She's about 17 and I think she might be too young for internal arts and I wanted her to find something like Bak Mei but I don't want it to be too harsh.Do you have any good ideas?

I think Lily Lau has her school over ther but I'm not sure,it would be great since her Eagle Claw is supposed to be really vicious and beautiful at the same time.Something esoteric and applicable would suit her.

Southern or Notrthern doesn't matter since she's looking for something new. Then again Wing Chun could be good for her?

Hey NM, I don't know too many schools in Northern California but I'm planning to study with Jason Tsou hear in Southern California who as I understand is Adam Hsu's kung fu brother. If Adam is anything like I've seen from Jason then I'd surely investigate this school. I don't know what the Mantis is like but I'm going for the Baji.

Check it out here:

I'm short on time but I always seem to come across these link pages to martial arts but can't find them when I need them. I guess that's what bookmarks are for.

NorthernMantis, Tat Mau Wong has a huge presence in San Francisco. She may also try Wong Doc Fai's school. She could learn Tam Tui from Simone Kuo at Lien Ying Tai Chi Acadamy. She's the wife of the late great internal grand master Kuo Lien Ying. She could try Brendan Lai's mantis school. There are a host of other schools, especially in an area called the "Avenues". Concerning Lily Lau's Eagle Claw school, it's in Concord, about 30 miles east of San Francisco. One other factor is where she's going to live and how far is she willing to travel. Also, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, there use to be a lot of kung fu schools practicing in the "Pan Handle" of Golden Gate Park. (I don't know if they still do though!)

I hope this helps!

Peace!!!

NM, I hope that you at least suggest to her to check out Simone Kuo. Her kung fu is awesome; your friend would be learning from the best female teacher (in my opinion) in the entire Bay Area. Simone would teach her the concepts of true flexibility as well as the great tam tui style as well as tai chi and other internals later if your friend so desires! Simone is off-the-hook!!!

Peace!!!
