What kind of information are you looking for? Just want to find out about it, or looking for a teacher?

I actually have a few questions about Southern Dragon. It's a pretty rare style, but one that has caught my fancy.

What is the primary distance range of the style (if there is one).

Is it a style where the internal developes the external, or the other way around?

Am I asking the wrong questions?

Hi Diego - always happy to chat about Lung Ying if you have questions...eviljungle - Dragon is considered a mid-range style (leaning towards short).

Cheers - Kevin

As ******** would say:

"Dude, dragon ROCKS, huh huh... huh huh!"

You won't find too much info out there, but I'm sure a few people on this forum, like Kevin and Mantis 108, will be more than happy to answer any questions.

Like any art that you get serious about, it's difficult to describe lung ying to someone who's not learning it. The style is technical and builds progressively. The system has been held close to the family, so it's principals have remained relatively pure. If you find a master to learn from, you will have a teerrific journey.

init is many strikes from differant feetplays all using the dragon claw"thumb, index&middle fingertips"
can you guys tell me about the claw hand and fighting stance sayings--like do you guys curve your chest // tounge on pallette sink shoulders etc....stuff like that.

is the system most known to date back to shaolin is that the sane techniques you would find in shaolin 5animal kf--tiger,leo,crane,snake&DRAGON.

Diego,

No, Lung Ying is not the same as the dragon in Shaolin Five Animals.

you see in many styles especially family dragon frames..was there like a really famous school and everyone copyied what they could from that method or?????

mantis108

For a starter, dragon is majestic and mysterious.

Lung Ying is, IMHO, conceptual. In other words, it is not an imitation of an imaginary creature, rather it is an inspiration of an imaginary creature. The principles (martial, civil and spiritual) of this art often elevates self cultivation to an extraordinary plateau which infatuates, even intoxicate, the practitioners. Try it, you will fall madly in love with Lung Ying. :)

First and foremost, I would like to clarify the word "intoxicate" has nothing to do with any substance abuse, soft nor hard. It is meant to be a figure of speech in a literary sense. For the record, I am against the use of any drugs (even pot) as "recreational" use. Now if people want to ruin their lives, be my guest. I personal don't associate with such people. No one in the Lung Ying and Bak Mei (those I have personal contact with) that I know of has ever have substance abuse problem. If you are interested in fabricate "facts", well... it's your right.

Obviously, you have something else on your mind and I bid you good luck in your search.

in this day and age im fully agianst also .....its a waste of time

but i just read within this year they opened up shakespeares old house and found like 40 pipes with veriying substances from coca to similar to lsd etc.. didnt meen to disrespect it was scripted in haste

but the question still stands.

was there a major school in shaolin that later ching era family styles developed there dragon methods..
i ask because of similaritys i have seen at facevalue in articles n such plus many arts have drunken sets at hi levels so things like that lead me to believe there is/was a general consensus of flavor behind the reasoning/creativity of chinese martial arts.

take care

diego
09-05-2001, 11:17 PM
that is the line that made me throw in that comment as a header

like you always have things like chase the dragon etc and kung fu thought at higher/hardcore levels many nowadays could not relate

like theres either the school of zen or the school of triad adrenaline rush hope that makes sense

whereas nowadays alot of school of thoughts is tea&biscuits over a warm fire...

and if you look at the culture of stoners since the 60s you see many cliche actions
and opium was a major part of chinese history
so who knows what the olschool creators intentions were.

this has nothing todo with my question just a hiddenthought bubbling

and no i have never even smelled opium but i do understand cultures arising from foriegn substances

and Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout!

Everybody's right, not good to be disrespectful like last yrs bashing of CLC by far-lessers, but also it's very unrealistic to try and pin a modern "War On Drugs" mentality on old China.

We cluck our tongues from a perspective completely removed form their world... and completely removed from our own reality for that matter... I mean the "war" never WAS on drugs and the only office interested in your future is the IRS...

I guess you guys have noticed that there's bascially NO info on the web about this style.

I've ordered a video from Sifu Yip Wing Hung. Anyone know if this was wise?

I've studyed Shotokan, Wing Chung, and Hung Gar. Know if this will help?

meltdawn

Here you can find a book with another perspective on lung ying.

Evil, have fun with the video. Yip Sifu has two of them out. Pay attention and you can pick up some key points of dragon.

Ok so I've been studying the video like a madman. :D Here are my impressions. Since the video does not give specific names for the techniques, I'll try to be descriptive. I've

I've studyed 3 other martial arts. Shotokan, wing chun, and hung gar. The techniques in Dragon are some I've studyed before, but they're set up in a different and cool way. The 'ready hand' being a closed hand outward block is really cool, and using this with a simultanious punch really creates power. I like also how the openhanded outward block curls around the attackers arm. The crescent shaped stepping is something I've run into before and I like that as well. Palm strikes are one of my all time favorite techniques. :p

The forms are beautiful. Actual practical techniques and artistic beauty as well. I'm learning the second one now. Is the introcuctory salute symbolic of something?

Any tips or hints from Lung Ying practicioners out there? Sorry if I sound doofy, but I'm pretty stoked. :D

no-one has the origanal lung-ying,its all propiganda.don't wanna start any-thing but what you have today[so called l-y]is pittyful and cr@p,slow and too much structure,no simplicity at all.
just my experiences,don't go crying?

its more like karate, which is also cr@p

Come now, you can do so much better than that, can't you, sui-fu?

Figure now's as good a time as any, as good a place as any, to mention that I've liked your school for a while meltdawn. I really like the website and the way you guys present your style- the backgrounds, the photos used, etc. It really made me want to train there; unfortunately the only times I'll be in Flahrida are visiting my grandparents in Palm Coast. (ie. not too often)
I'm gonna try to pick up that book or video whenever i get some money; just to get some more background info.
It'd be cool to see other schools presenting their art in a similar manner.

Wow, you mean all I have to do is stand up for myself and I cause all this commotion? Where were you guys when "The Hottest Kung Fu Babe" thread was happenin'? The only vote I got was from R. ;) Next you'll be wanting me to post a picture of myself here!

Silly, silly. While you all may want to try out my kung fu grip (especially Buby, it seems!!!) you will have to be appeased with a friendly little practice of 3 star blocking. Maybe I'll be kind and wear knee socks and ponytails.

I like all kung fu guys. You rock. Even if you don't practice the greatest and most devastating style, LUNG YING JING JUNG.
