When are you ready?

My first post! Anyway, I'm just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are about. When (not in year terms) is a student ready to 'go on his/her own?' Now I know a person will 'know' when they know, but I'm just wondering how did you know ( if you have gone on) or how did u know when to 'let go" (if you're a sifu). Now, I don't mean physically leaving the class forever or anything, but rather the feeling of you can do it on your own.

but seriously, if my teacher said i was ready to go out on my own i'd listen to him :) a person can teach you so much wing chun, but after a point its up to you to perfect what you've learned

part of the teaching process in my school is how to teach you how to figure it out yourself

but as long as my sifu is a live, i'll never be going out on my own because he's got my back :)
