Pad Drill for setting up leg kicks:

Partner starts with a focus mit on one hand and a thai shield on the other. (Easiest way to hold the shield is hold it at the top and let it dangle over your thigh). The front leg should have the thai pad on the outside of the thigh, and the focus mit should be at face level and a little forward. Your stance should be set so the thai pad would be a rear roundhouse.

Start off with either a doubled-up jab or one-two combo. Make sure these are stiff shots that force the individual to move backward. (When an opponent is stationary on leg kicks it is easy for him to block kicks and/or take you down). Getting him moving backwards does three things. A: Doesn't allow him to lift his leg to block if he does his momentum may cause him to fall B: Not allow him to set his weight to the through the common counter to a leg kick ie. a rear overhand C:Since his movement is back it is hard for him to reverse of such a short backwad movement and shoots if attempted are easier to sprawl on.

After the puches (double jab / one two) throught the rear roundhouse thai kick. After it connects have the partner through a rear overhand with the focus mit and then retract to a stiking position for you. (Easiest block i use for this is turn the head to one side (keeping eye contact of course) and raising the arms to take the impact). Off that throw another one-two combo

(This is the ending for our MMA drill) After you throw the one-two have the partner swipe with a haymaker, duck the punch right into a double leg pick-up and drive/carry him five or six steps for weigh training also.

OK here's a simple one… One, Two, duck… Two…

Coach - 2 focus mitts… fighter throws jab followed immediately by a straight… coach throws a haymaker(hook) and the fighter ducks it(bend the knees not the waist)… fighter 'stands' back up and immediatley throws another straight(or a leg kick or my favorite, straight and then a leg kick)... see... simple...

stamina drill

have partner hold pads to feed knees. Plum your partner and do 50 skip knees. push him back, and follow with 10 rear leg roundhouses. Close in and plumb again. 20 skip knees. push your partner back and do 10 roundhouses with the front leg. repeat as desired.
