Forwarding this info. on a XingYiQuan seminar with Li Tai-Liang.

-----------

Hi All:

I’m looking to have a 5-day xingyi camp with Li
TaiLiang late June 2003 in sunny Mission Viejo,
Southern California. It will be held Monday through
Friday and run roughly 9-4 or 9-5. If there is
interest, I’m entertaining the notion of adding the
weekend. Then the truly dedicated could train for 7
days, or folks who can’t make the week could attend.

My plan is to cover in 5 days, the 5 element fists.
The daily routine would be something like

MORNING:
Warmups/Fundamentals/Basic Gongs
Principles, requirements,
Solo exercises (to include the sequence) for the fist
of the day:
Stationary practice
Footwork
Standard sequence
2 man exercises appropriate to the fist of the day

AFTERNOON
Approximately 3 signature applications that exemplify
the principles of the fist
Counters to the above

My goal is to provide an environment in which one can
develop a functional grasp of basic xingyi.
Consequently, I have limited the material taught, and
have setup the curriculum in an orderly fashion, to
include the seldomly discussed principles and
requirements that are useful in guiding ones practice.
I also plan to have a printed curriculum with space
for the participants to write notes on and LTL has
also agreed to an optional companion video.

The cost for the 5 days would be $500. If there is
interest in the weekend seminar, I will price it
appropriately.

Knowing that this isn’t particularly cheap, I’m
giving notice about a year in advance so interested
parties can reserve their vacation time and save their
pennies. The site is close to the beach and centrally
located between LA and San Diego, so one might
possibly combine a vacation with the area. Folks who
have a hard time saving money, but are interested, I
could work out an pay by installment plan.

When I have 10 deposits, the camp will definitely
happen. I will probably cap it at 30, to ensure a
good learning environment.

Send any inquiries to fkchang2000@yahoo.com

but that seems like a lot of money,,actually there is no seeming about it,,that IS alot of money to spend 5 days on a system that takes half a lifetime to grasp.
for 500 bucks i could go to a school and train for several months.
i think that you need to drop the fees a bit.
say like 275 dollars.

well let's see, you have $500 for 5 days, that breaks down to $100/day, assuming you get several hours of training time per day you're looking at what maybe $20/hr?
doesn't sound too bad to me.

i guess it really depends on how badly you want it.

between 40-60 dollars a month for 2-3 days a week for training.
with that ratio,, lets round it and say 50 bucks a month,,for 500 bucks thats 10 months of training...thats more learning than 5 days worth of 5 elements crammed into your brain. it took me 6-8 months to learn 5 fists linkage and 12 animals,,and thats just movement alone.

i think this is about the money rather than imparting the teaching,,,,hell i will teach 5 fist set for free. and ask only for a lunch or a beer or something.

"That Good" they usually are "REAL EXPENSIVE".

which for poor guys like me who wish to learn from decent people ,shouldnt have to sell sperm and blood to pay for it.

dude you have a friggin YEAR to save up for it, that's like not even $50/month. even for someone not making alot of money , if it's important enough to you, you will save up and spend the dough :D

This is something I would like to attend. Unfortunately my holidays are already spoken for next year.

Instruction from high level practitioners is very worthwhile. The master's deeper understanding of how the art works may give the student an insight that may not open for them for some time. Also, the opportunity to see in person an art practiced by a master is worthwhile in itself. If one is trying to learn how to paint in the style of Picasso, it would be better (and probably eventually essential) to see a master practice this style as opposed to a lesser skilled instructor compared to the master (although also valuable in its own sense).

I think $500 is not too much - especially if the master must travel from China to conduct the seminar.

I'm picturing TWS standing by the side of the road holding a "will teach kungfu for beer" sign ;) Actually... that's not a bad idea!

Add this to our online calendar - http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/cgi-local/calendar.pl?month=June - it's early enough to make the next issue's news section.
