check Viper's "What do you think of my workout schedule" thread. Ryu posted some good ones.

We bring in 3-5 homeless people. 2-3 from urban areas, and 1-2 from highway intersections. We want to know where the urban's shopping carts are and the highway's "Homeless Vet Needs Work God Bless" signs are at all times.

Seriously though, check out some of the situational drills used by krav maga. Regardless what you think of the style they have excellent scenario drills.

It's a shame you need a partner to do these type of drills.

Kind of obvious point, but its still a shame.

Just holding class outdoors every now and then will greatly improve your situational awareness.

Practice in a vacuum and you may only be good in a vacuum.

Class is always outdoors anyway.

Thanks EWallace.

go to wingchunkuen.com

Trust me, there is the BEST situational awareness drill ever. I have it on my PC somewhere, it shows a few simple observational drills for crowded areas. Building on the simple "threat assessment" stuff that we all know, it categorises it fully into "zones", with according reactions.

Can be practised hypothetically or on your own.

In my school, we do all sorts of stuff.

Here's a drill we use: playing one-handed catch with a koosh ball.

I dreamed up that drill on my own, and then I found out that Robert Joffrey's professional NYC jazz dance had been doing the same thing for years.

How does that improve situational awareness?

Try having the koosh ball thrown at you from anywhere but straight on.

You'll NEED to develop situational awareness to catch the darned thing.

Here's one we did in kuntao.

pick a space to stand in. If you have to, mark the space off so that you do not step outside of it.have 4 people around you, two in front and two in back, at diagonal angles. one will randomly attack and you must defend, without leaving your space. it helps build awareness of your attackers and also positional awareness as you have to work in the small area that you marked off.
