having problems with my zip drive. if i try to transfer anything over 80kb to the zip disk, the drive makes this horrid click-clack noise for about 5 min then my pc gets the blue screen and the file gets corrupted. can anyone help??
(i've cleaned out the drive, replaced the driver and used fresh disks....:mad: :mad: :mad: )

do you have a different drive to try?
have you tried your drive in another system?

i haven't tried it on another system yet. i have both PC and Mac, the zip drives are for transferring files between the two. i wish i hadn't bought a PC digital camera. it's the only reason i'm keeping the PC. it's a friggin dinosaur. bought it in like 98. the mac on the other hand...this thing is a technological piece of heaven.

Hey man

What OS are you runnng... if it is 98 or Win NT or 2000 is anything shown in the event viewer (NT --> start/run/ type eventvwr 2000--> rt click on my computer choose Manage and go to event viewer)

The sounds can signal a harware problem, How long have you had the drive?

When was the last time it worked?

Have you loaded anything different since the last time it worked?

Also and prob. the most important: what type of connection is it ( is it USB, parallel, or internal)

GGL-

it's on win 98 OS. i've had the zip drive for a while, i got it when they first came out...haven't really loaded anything new or different, i keep a minimal amount of progs on the PC since it's a dinosaur. it's a parallel port.

Well, it might be the zip that's corrupted, not the drive...it happened to me. Have you changed the zip (I know, you probably did, silly question).

On the other hand, what prevents you from using your digital camera on a mac? The connectic? Maybe you could find some USB adaptors?

What's wrong with a Macinstosh? They make great paperweights, plus when I get frustrated while playing games on my Linux box there's no better way to relieve stress than kicking a MAC.

I stuck a $1500 software CD in it and it came out with vertical lines burned into the CD. I then realized that what I thought was a MAC turned out to be one of those new George Foreman grills.

ditch the zip and use a rewritable CD

zip = 100 or 250MB @ $10/disc
CD-RW = 750MB @ $00.50/disc
