Hi guy, just wondering if you would talk a little about how you trained fighters for the Golden Gloves? What kind of backgrounds did they have, and what training methods did you employ? Did you have them doing arm swings and such for warmups, or stuck to the Western Boxing training methods? What kind of footwork did you have them train? Even if it was standard Western boxing training methods, I'm still curious to hear about them.

San Shou originated as a form of military training, ie it was designed to teach people to survive whatever the conditions, sport is learning to function within the confines of the rules of the sport in question. When we fight boxing, one set of rules dictates the strategy, if we fight under Muay Thai rules, another set, San Shou, NHB, etc

99% of our fighters at NYKK do not have backgrounds in other styles. People find this hard to believe, but the reality is they are raw clay and can be molded, it is easier.

It depends on what you call Kung Fu training. We don't think hitting a heavy bag or using focus mitts isn't kung fu training, we think it is being modern and intelligent. Also, despite what some people think, straight punches, hooks, uppercuts and overhands exist in TCMA, especially in our traditional method.

in 2000, we had a fighter use a traditional right side forward (unorthodox from Western boxing point of view) and sweeping punch (so choih) to great effect. He also used a long uppercut Paau Choih
