I was an observer at the Wong Fei Hung Tournament On Saturday and I have to say this is a great event. I witnessed some good kung fu fighting. Continuous sparring which was good, but basically kickboxing type stuff. But what was really nice were the special catagories of fighting where the stylists got to use the stuff they learn in their style. There was Bag Gwa push hands that was really cool, and they had Bag Ga sparring which was cool too. They also had tai chi push hand and chen style push hands and Chi Sau which was one of my favorite to watch-- this stuff looks like kung fu and it was not sloppy at all. The fist round of chi sua is a ring and the second was on a small platform-- it was very cool. If more people in the martial arts community saw this stuff I think kung fu would be considered more of a fighting art and not just forms. And this stuff was great because it was kung fu not kick boxing.
