ok, i've seen em' in the movies and i've seen em' in your mag. gene and i gotta have one.
my brother is currently working in china(various regions) and passes through hong kong quite a bit, so if you(gene) or anybody else knows where there maybe a shop that has them let me know please(pretty pretty please)
also, for those who know the site ' Beijing Baguazhang' and have seen their 'steel fan' i was wondering if anybody might know where i could fing one of them for sale in hong kong or china as well. i would get one from them but $90us is like
$3 000 000 aussie(slight exageration but at about $170aus before shipping that is quite dear) and that is just a bit to much for a poor bum like me.
thanx

Here:

I'll warn you though... I've ordered from them before. I ordered a sword. It got to me a couple months late... and it wasn't even the right sword. So I had to send it back and it was kind of a pain in the ass getting it all sorted out. I wouldn't order from them again, but you might have better luck than I did.

Well if you not going to order our fans at MartialArtsMart.com http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/45-07b.html because you can access China, I guess I can't complain too much.

Most of the fans I've seen in China are not very good quality. Occasionally you can find nice bamboo spoked ones, but they almost always have paper sails. At Shaolin, I've seen solid metal ones, which are a light steel, very light. They are okay, but I've never bought one.

As for pipes, a few distributers outside of China carry them. Our Chinese weapon maker does provide them but we opted not to carry them becuase they are so rarely used and basically it's a chromed copper plumbing pipe with a bowl. You could make it in your hardware store. Now China - I haven't been shopping in HK since '91 so I couldn't tell you a thing about that - but in China you can find old antiques markets. In Beijing, I'd recommend the top floor of Hong Qiao market. In Xian, the alley near the Great Mosque. Those are good places to start. Good luck.

is this like the fans you saw at shaolin?

thanx

ps design sifu, i have unfortunalety broken way to many glass ones in the past and as much of a mess as they make of someone else it is the mess and smell that you have to clean up that is the main problem with using them.

You might want to try out Graffix -- more bong, I mean bang, for your buck. I'm sure they have a web page.;)

There's a new weapons mart (brick and mortar type) here in T.O.

They do carry steel and pewter opium pipes.
"Fighting" pipes are actually usable pipes after all.

The longest one I've seen is about 2 feet long. I haven't seen the really long one for sale yet, but hey, ya never know. It might turn up.

Gene~ surely MAM can find these things? They're pretty common in head shops and your magazine did do a spread on it afterall. :D

If not, I can drag up the phone number, Yan is an amiable character who would likely appreciate your business.

Oh we can get pipes, no probelm. The question is if it is marketable. Right now we have over 3000 items online, for all styles. That's a crazy amount of inventory to keep track of - and with stuff like this current dock strike, it can be quite a headache. So we focus on the weapons that sell.

What sells? These - http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/50-55.html - even though they're illegal in many states, we still make a lot more selling these than say, anything Chinese. Now we've been dabbling in some obscure weapons lately, stuff like this - http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/45-78.html - which sells really well just because it look so wicked. Nobody knows how to use them, but then nobody seems to care. I've been debating about adding pipes for some time, but I have yet to find one that is both economic and much more than a plumbers pipe.

chicken razors and nunchuks are all the rage eh?

hmmmmn.

well, there's no accounting for it I guess. The chicken claw razors would be a pretty cool thing to learn, but then again, who the heck knows how to use em? (as stated)

nunchuks got nothing on a staff. better to remove chaff from rice with them than to try em against shaolin double headed staff techs :D
