I just upped the rating of this thread. I can't see anyone arguing with that! (No one heterosexual at least!)

(Or lesbian, I guess!)

I'm away now for a little while, so have fun without me kids. eulerfan, play "Grace" while I'm gone. I'll be back to you, honey! ;)

FatherDog

I love how the only people actually hitting on eulerfan are the ones that have an ocean or half a continent between them and Texas. All the Texan KFO-ers are conspicuously silent.

We're all just intimidated by strong, intelligent woment. ;)

I just finished one I think you'd get a kick out of. Let me proofread it, if it gets published, you can check it out. I'd just email it to ya, but I know you've got to read too much as it is, what with working at a magazine.

What's funny is that I don't really worry about whether what I'm writing is martial fiction or not. There's some kung fu in it, but that's not necessarily the center of it. I mean, is The Great Gatsby 'rich guy fiction'? Is Of Mice and Men 'farmhand and his slow grabby brother fiction'?:D

Actually, I think it is.

Right now, I'm at the point in my writing where a lot of the process is natural for me(though always in need of improvement), but all the professional level stuff(margin size, using courier, writing cover letters) I still have to develop basic skill at. So it almost takes me longer to do all that stuff than to write the stories.

And, what you'll probably find really weird considering my posts here, is that I almost never write comedy. The one I think you'd get a kick out of is one of the only comedy pieces I've written in a couple years. I basically sat down and asked myself "What would the forum members really get a kick out of reading, I would get a kick out of writing, and I'd still feel like I accomplished something good, and possibly marketable?"

I feel so rude, I've hardly spoken to the GotQi Girls. Since I'm on the topic, what's on the recommended reading list of you GotQi Girls?

Oh boy, are we discussing music.

Get thee to a cd store and buy "Grace" by Jeff Buckley. Trust me. It's top of the line.

@PLUGO
11-15-2002, 01:18 PM
Yeah, Jeff Bucky's pretty good...

what I'm surprised at is that nobody's suggested that eulerfan post a pick wearing her GOT Qi (http://store6.yimg.com/I/martialartsmart_1705_56633865) T-shirt (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/tshirgotqi99.html) !!! :p

GeneChing
11-15-2002, 01:29 PM
Whaddaya say eulerfan? Give us your best "got qi" pose. Pouty is good... and arch your back.

Oh just ask Margie for pointers, she's the reigning 'got qi' queen.

eulerfan
11-15-2002, 02:40 PM
There's a problem. I don't have a 'got qi' shirt. I'll put it on my X-mas list and we'll see what happens. I'm thinking, if you want an arched back, ride the tiger would work nicely. Margie? What do you think? Ride the tiger?

@PLUGO
11-15-2002, 03:25 PM
eulerfan?

You don't have a GOT QI T-shirt!?!?!?

Well I'll bet there are folks here willing to pass the hat around!!!

wouldn't want you to catch cold of something with a decient shirt!!!

GeneChing
11-15-2002, 04:30 PM
eulerfan - Hand puppets? Kinky.
Margie doesn't practice Tai Chi so she won't get the ride the tiger reference. The only thing she rides in the martial world is her truck when it's being pulled by Master Tu's manliness. I hope Santa brings everyone a 'got qi?' shirt complete with their subscriptions - hope you've all been nice, not naughty.

:D

spartans were very hardy peoples from ancient times who lived in greece.

The were extremely pragmatic and were essential a fearsome warrior people who conquered greece at one time in history.

anyway, they had few personal possesions as their whole paradigm was based on being tough. Both mentally and physically. They saw leisure and external distraction as weakness in man and so, were of few personal possessions and attachments.

Digs- euphamism for pad, apartment, house, place where you live.

Often a prison cell is described as "spartan" to denote it's bareness. :D

Meanwhile, have a look at thisamazing thing (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/19341.html)

Then I closed the window and there was your avatar.

"Oh. Nevermind."

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm retarded.

But, nice pic. So far, I have to say the men of KFO are pretty cute.

Yeah, come on Wen! They aren't going to bite. You don't have to be a brazen hussy about it. That's just my way. Comes from living in Texas. At some point you have to think to yourself, "I'm not allowed in a fraternity. I don't want to learn golf. I'm not interested in the NFL. There must be some way I can compete with the good old boy network......"

BTW, Xebs, "something else"? A little respect, please. You happen to be talking about the source of all my power.

Did ya'll check out Father Dog's pic? See how cute you are when you smile?

You know, never mind. Forget the smiling. I want ya'll to send me shirtless pictures. Glistening with sweat. I'll put together a "Men Of KFO" calender and we'll all make some BANK!!!!

KC, please be sure to send us your submissions to the CyberKwoon martial fiction section. As it says in the guidelines, it can be about anything - if it has something in it that's martial arts related, however it is presented, it qualifies for consideration. And you might get $50!

Apologies for this outrageous thread-jack. Thanks for you time.

Wu Lung,

Actually, one story is going to Cyberkwoon, this week, I promise! I'm 'The Manchu' on CK, I've already attempted to bribe those in power with mutton, although it appears y'all are partial to venison.

I'll get the comedy piece together tonight and send it to you by Friday. I think you'll like it, thus far all who have read it have liked it, and I have some tough proofreaders(one of them is a northern stylist, they're dangerous proofreaders, especially when a longfist guy loses;) -I just tell him it's fiction, you know how touchy those northern stylists get, too much air time, too little oxygen:D )

Gene,
Are you gonna let these CK guys just jump in here and disgrace our forum temple?;) :D

GeneChing
11-18-2002, 10:07 AM
Each of the forum host websites needs to find it's knitche. Ours is not going to be martial fiction, so CK might as well grab it.

We get a lot of fiction (and more often comic strips) submitted to us despite the fact that we don't run it. We also get a lot of fiction submitted to us as fact. I encourage you to write fiction- in fact I've been thinking of doing that myself just for fun - but we won't be publishing it here at this time. Hey, $50! Maybe I should write for CK...

Gene***I am with you all the way.

Eurflan***I have to say I am with Gene on this. Being a got qi girl, I can say that this is officially the kungfu qigong got qi girl thread, where all of our got qi girls can post. And plus. For guys, that would be a good idea to have a seperate thread for guys with there shirt off. But for some reason.......I think that maybe you will be the only one who would enjoy it the most. Not saying that in a bad way. Me, myself, wouldn't mind checking out that thread. Maybe you should get one started ke ke ke!!!:D The thing with having guys post there pictures without shirts, may lead to them asking for your picture with no shirt in return:eek: .

***It is nice to see who you are speaking with though. To have a face with the posts really helps. And can I just say, that we have a lot of very good looking people in here. That is including the women. You guys are all beautiful.

***As father dog quotes "As long as we are posting pictures."
I am not sure I can post one that is outside of work pictures. So I am going to post one with me and Johnny(another worker/model that works for the company). It is kind of bad, becuase I think I look evil. him too. j/k ke ke k ek

The mind boggles.

Anyway, if you're looking for attention, you've come to the right place. Being a woman on a Martial Arts BBS isn't quite as rare a commodity as, say, a role-playing or computer game BBS, but it's close. And we're in better shape. :D

Sorry to hear it. Just follow my lead. I've always come out of relationships without any undue turmoil, because of my ironclad, unshakeable belief in my own superiority. Clearly, they're the ones missing out. :D

Well eulerfan, you're doing pretty well. Females are in fairly short supply around here. Tae Li and halfling have disappeared (read - got a life), Kungfoocutie came in excited everyone and then left as quick as she arrived. MAMargie is doing okay so far. Thanks Taoboy.

Fatherdog,

Any time I exchange words with somebody on a fairly regular basis, I call that a relationship. So I can't say the situation wasn't a relationship. But this is nothing quite so pedestrian as a broken heart.

This is somebody systematically, determinedly, over months and months, breaking down your resolve. And they win. And you agree to do something you never thought you would ever do. Something that would turn you into somebody you don't want to be. And when you finally agree, that person turns you down.

What happened to me was Dangerous Liasons calibre.

I still haven't really sussed it, yet. What exactly happened there. There's a lesson. I just need to find it.

A good basic rule for me has been that someone who enjoys you for who you are won't want to change you in any fundamental way. And since your friends are generally the people who like you how you are, beware of
A) folks that want to change you extensively, and
B) folks that your friends hate.

I'd have saved myself a great deal of aggravation if I'd paid attention to B....

What happened to me was Dangerous Liasons calibre.

Whoa, there was lesbian kissing involved? Got pics?

Sorry, I'm congenitally unable to take anything seriously for longer than 5 minutes. It's a personal failing.

I still haven't really sussed it, yet. What exactly happened there. There's a lesson. I just need to find it.

That's pretty much true of any situation in life. What's more important than finding a lesson is remaining you, and not letting trauma or malice change who you are.

eulerfan
11-19-2002, 09:17 AM
It wouldn't have changed me in any fundamental way. I just believe that we are defined by our actions.

For instance. I have no issue telling you that I am a liar. I've told more than a few lies in my day and will probably tell more.

Most people I know have as well. But they wouldn't say, "I'm a liar." They'd say, "I'm not a liar, there were specific reasons for each and every lie I ever told. You don't understand the circumstances....."

Blah blah blah. There are always circumstances. They never nullify the act. If you lie, you are a liar. It's YOUR weight, pick it up and carry it.

I'll never say never. I don't want to be a thief. The world is full of possibility and I contain multitudes of that, myself. So I won't tell you that I would never steal. I'd fight the good fight but I might lose. If I did, it wouldn't change me fundamentally but it would turn me into something I don't want to be. A thief.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Anyway, whatever happened with this person, it was somebody I wanted in my life. I was trying to have this person in my life. I got my ass beat down but, when all is said and done, I was the one who stepped in the ring. The onus of responsibility is firmly on me.

Aha! So you're the venison-wealthy Manchu! I'm Mo Lung (Wu Lung is the same thing - Mo = Cantonese/ Wu = Mandarin). Please do send us your stuff.

And Gene, we'd be honoured to get a submission from you. Who couldn't use $50 after all? Of course, it's not guaranteed, even for someone of your standing! ;)

Also, if you get a lot of fiction submissions, but you don't want to run fiction, then perhaps you might mention us to those authors? If you send them a note to say No thanks, perhaps you could suggest they check us out in the same note. This is a ridiculous presumption, I know, but hey - I have no pride! :D

Thanks for your understanding, Gene - it's nice to know that we can all get along like friends!

Actually, I don't think I could send you anything while I work here since that might cross over into conflict of interest, something that's a very delicate topic for me personally being a former employee of WLE and student of Wing Lam. But thatnk you for the offer.

And I'd be happy to forward the fiction to you. Like I said, we don't use it. I had some kenpo fiction kicking around a while ago, or do you just run KF? I'd also like to forward you all the comic submissions, if your interested. I don't save the rejects, so the next ones that cross my desk, I'll refer to you.

Study: Uneducated Outbreeding Intelligentsia 2-To-1
CHICAGO—In a report with dire implications for the intellectual future of America, a University of Chicago study revealed Monday that the nation's uneducated are breeding twice as soon and twice as often as those with university diplomas. "The average member of the American underclass spawns at age 15, compared to age 30 for the average college-educated professional," study leader Kenneth Stalls said. "America's intellectual elite, as a result, is badly losing the genetic marathon, with two generations of dullards born for every one generation of cultured literates." Added Stalls: "At this rate, by the year 2100 there will be five smart people on Earth, swallowed whole by more than 12 billion mouth-breathers incapable of understanding the binary exponentiation that swamped the Earth with their like." I'm quite addicted to the Savage Love column on the Onion A.V. club.

Yes, no car is HOT!

Honestly, the car thing is very american and I don't really have the american mentality. I was raised in foreign countries where public transport isn't so theoretical. If I could get away with not having a car, maybe by living anywhere but this turd city, I wouldn't have one.

I once had a nightmare where, when I wasn't driving, I had to carry my car on my back. If that gives you any idea of how I feel about that hunk of metal.

If you want us to be telling you you're sexy, you have to post more pics, so that we can customize our flattery.

The more detailed you want, the more pics you should have. From a variety of different angles and states of undress. After all, we can't properly tell you how easy it would be to get lost in your lovely eyes unless we've got a good view of 'em, right? And of course, it's much easier for us to rhapsodize about the pure beauty of your silken skin if we can see more of it. :D

You know, having bruises massaged is an incredibly unpleasant experience. I don't think I could call it sensual.

Sifu has this oil that's supposed to help with bruises and stuff. I once jammed my finger and he had me put it on. Then he grabbed the base of my finger tight and pulled all the way to the tip. He did it a bunch of times then a bunch of times in the other direction.

I thought to myself, "I don't think it's the oil that's helping." In between the pangs of blinding pain, anyway.

Chang Style Novice

I liked "Vagabonds" okay, especially the little semi-rondo section.

For killer violin I gotta recommend L. Subramaniam and Jerry Goodman, though. Not very punk or new wave, in fact very Carnatic Classical and jazz fusion. But still much listening pleasure.

Then there's the western classical canon. I especially like Gil Shaham and the Quator Vegh's treatments of Bartok.

There is a band called Apocalyptica. It's essentially four total metal heads who are also consummate cellists. I have one of their albums. They do cover songs of Metallica and Faith no More and others, just with four cellos. They aren't like elevator music renditions, though. They can make those cellos sound pretty hard core.

I can probably arrange to get a 'got qi?" shirt to you (eulerfan) on the condition you posts a pic wearing it every so often on this here thread. Provocative but not pornographic (save those for the PMs.) You can do kung fu poses like Jenny here. (http://store6.yimg.com/I/martialartsmart_1701_57123064) or if you really are the warrioress I imagine we all hope you are, you can pose just in the shirt alone (you have to buy the print mag to see any of those.) When we got out in the hall after the performance (to talk about possibly doing an encore), she lit into us with the whole "Do you ever think about what you're singing, treating that sort of thing like it's okay has dangerous effects on people, etc" bit. My two friends started in apologetically with "it's just a joke, music doesn't affect people, etc". I stood around listening to that for about a minute, got bored, and said "Actually, I don't really care if music affects people or not; I just found it funny.
