The ball boy has been knocked out cold.

Commentator - "Gee, that must have hurt."

Here comes the replacement ball-girl....wait....it's eulerfan.

Umpire - "replay the point".

Serpent serves, TB returns - it's a winner. Serpent was too busy drooling over the new ball-girl.

This thread is actually slowing heading towards self-awareness. It's a gestalt entity, virtually forming itself from the combined subconscious brain patterns of everyone that has posted on it. Imagine what it could become!

Isn't it amazing how Star Wars is now such an integral part of western culture that there is nowhere that a Star Wars reference would be out of place.

I mean, a kung fu forum is easy, obviously, but think about it. Try to think of a situation where you can't work in a Star Wars reference that is both relevant and not self-indulgent.

But I don't think you understand the goal of an art degree very well (at least, not MY goal for my art degree.) The creative impulse is pretty much the same no matter how it manifests itself. I was an artist's model for a while... and there's no way I'd pay to look at me!!! :o

It was up to 30 quid an hour though (sounds good, but I know one of the sculptors was getting up to 500 for a wee statue of my ass!). Very physically demanding, especially action poses. Good chigung practice in adversity.

In group classes, it was always interesting to wander round during the break and see just how different people's perceptions of you are. Sometimes I looked like Arnie (never 'true'), sometimes like a twisted strip of bog-roll (never that twisted...! now not so much of a strip!).

1) You don't know cool until you've sat in a freezing classroom surrounded by seventeen year-old female art students, pretending that none of them have noticed your nuts have disappeared.

2) You don't know life until you've stared at the ever-changing, ever-shifting twin worlds of your own nadgers in a draught for two hours. (Women, sorry, you'll have to borrow a pair).

mink is good....ke ke ke

If you ever go to hawaii, check out a tv show that is called the Bruddahs. It is so funny. It's these Hawaiian guys who do these series of mocking people that live in hawaii. There is this one part and it goes.....

The bruddahs believe they are wise but want to be wiser. The two bruddas who have been studying kungfu ask their sensei to teach them something wise.

Sensei says "i will teach you something wise. The wiser you get, you will soon be yellow belt, like me."

The Bruddahs "oh sensei...thank you thank you. Please go ahead and teach us your wisdom!" They are so excited to finally be as wise as their sensei.

Sensei then says " What would you do, if your son was at home. Crying all alone on the bedroom floor, becuase he's hungry. And the only way to feed him is to sleep with a man for a little bit of money:D

Anyways......there is so much more before and after that. but in order to really understand it, you have got to watch it.

Artists can see naked women often and call it 'work'. Gotta see the draw. s'cuse the pun.

I've seen plenty of neked women...er, durring art school... the coolest secret that most "artists" won't mention is that many a beautiful woman can be convinced to undress on the premis that as an artist, one would want to capture the fullness of their beauty unhindered by clothing...

or something to that effect . . . ;)

That and the lack of finals or papers make Art school a paradise for the crafty...

I once streaked down a street lined with busy bars on a friday night. The best part was the next week when somebody told me about the streaking as though I didn't know it had happened.

Once you get over that initial instinct to cover yourself and you've felt the death rattle of your pride, public nudity is great fun, I find.

My friend Bianca's girlfriend was *****ing about bras one time. "Why do we have to wear them? Why don't guys have to wear something uncomfortable with an underwire on their balls?"
Me: "If women decided balls were more attractive when they lift and separate, we probably would."
Her: "Well, why don't you show us and we'll see?"
Me: *ziiip*

Everyone else in the room knew me well enough that they turned their heads away the minute "why don't you show us" came out of her mouth. :D

Your friend's girlfriend needs either better constructed or better fitting bras. Most bras nowadays are super comfy. If I'm sleeping alone, I sleep in my mine.

But, what's going on here? Do you mean girlfriend as in a friend who is female, is this a lesbian couple or do you know a man named Bianca?

I'm curious because most lesbians I know do enjoy directing conversation towards the battle of the sexes and will jump on a non-issue to accomplish that, if necessary. Also, they seem to have an almost morbid curiosity about male sexuality. Very, "I don't want to touch it or anything. I just want to look at it."

Nor have I witnesses a guy who had a problem with being the subject of said curiosity.

Kinda odd. Kind kooky. People are strange.

Huh. My most recent ex found them quite uncomfortable, and she was 5'0 and 95 lbs; not exactly overburdened with cleavage. I guess it varies by bra.

But, what's going on here? Do you mean girlfriend as in a friend who is female, is this a lesbian couple or do you know a man named Bianca?

Bianca is bisexual with a strong preference for women. The aforementioned girlfriend (who is now an ex) was bisexual, but I didn't know her well enough to go into more detail than that.

I actually know considerably more bisexual women than straight women. I sometimes forget that this is unusual. :D

I don't think this was a battle of the sexes issue; she was just *****ing about uncomfortable bras.

Also, they seem to have an almost morbid curiosity about male sexuality. Very, "I don't want to touch it or anything. I just want to look at it."

Huh. Haven't noticed that. Of course, I don't know all that many full-blown lesbians.

Nor have I witnesses a guy who had a problem with being the subject of said curiosity.

I'm pretty casual about nudity, and indeed most things that other people would consider inappropriate in public. Again, sometimes I forget that this is unusual. This is why my sister doesn't like going out to eat with me.

Kinda odd. Kind kooky. People are strange.

...when you're a stranger, faces look ugly, when you're alone...

a) Well, it does vary from bra to bra but there's also the fit. A lot of women don't know how a bra is supposed to fit. So they keep buying ill fitting bras thinking that bras, on the whole, are uncomfortable. And, since a lot of women complain about this, they don't really try to figure out what's wrong.

b) Then I have no schema to fit that into. I know no bisexuals. All of my friends identify as either straight or gay. The gay community here seems to really look down on bisexuality. The feeling seems to be that bisexuals want to live the gay lifestyle but don't want to have to really be out and deal with the repurcussions or something. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. My gay friends are just always talking about some, "bi tool, what an idiot, making an @ss out of him/herself again last night".

c) Oh yeah. It's not just lesbians. Do you know many gay men? My gay male friends are always wanting to fondle and make out with me and stuff when they get plastered. A lot of women will do it, too. The logic is like, "Since you aren't actually attracted to me, it's okay for you to use me sexually." I don't buy that and I don't do it but I've seen quite a few women really go with it. I guess it's sort of like the way straight women like to make out with other women on odd, wild occasions.

I guess it's understandable, given the male attitude towards lesbianism, that lesbians would want to keep a little more distance when they do that kind of exploration.

I think these points are closely related. I think a lot more people are really bisexual than anyone on either side suspects; the problem is that large portions of the gay community have the mentality that if you like the same sex at all, you're gay, and 'playing around' with the opposite sex is just being confused/pressured by society. A lot of folks that are really bisexual figure out that they like the same sex, and say "Well, gee, I must be gay!" and just date the same sex... then they get drunk and start fondling the opposites. Then they sober up, "Oh, that was because I was drunk! After all, I'm gay!"

Most research indicates that sexuality is more of a spectrum, with various preferences. There are folks that are a hundred percent heterosexual, and folks that are a hundred percent ****sexual, but more people fall into "bi with a strong preference" than we would think, and most of those people just consider themselves one or the other.

I'm straight, incidentally, before anyone asks. A shame, really; I'd've got a lot more play in high school otherwise. :D

I read somewhere that the majority of women are actually wearing the wrong sized bra everyday. Either cup or bust size or a combination of the two. The quoted percentage was amazing - like 60-70%.

An ex-girlfriend of mine actually went to have a bra fitting one day and found out that she wasn't a 12B as she had always though but was actually a 10C. That change made a heap of difference to how she felt and also how she looked!

Food for thought!

Just like the English, except it's dress size (10, 12, etc.) rather than chest measurement in inches.

So a 34C in England would probably be a 12C here, give or take a bit.

Not that I'm a bra expert.

Or anything.

Well, I went on a short and impromptu trip to Houston this weekend, and didn't even look up Eulerfan (not that I could've, or would've since just showing up in town with no warning would have been tantamount to saying "Hi, I'm a creepy stalker!")

But I did visit the Rothko Chapel (http://www.rothkochapel.org) and the Cy Twombly Gallery (http://www.menil.org/twombly.html) this morning before the family business I had to attend to got underway.

I highly recommend both experiences to anyone living in Houston, or just passing through, or simply alive and with working eyeballs.

Oh, and to stay on topic, all bras should have velcro fasteners, not those irritating tiny wire hooks.

Well, lemme put it this way - I wish I'd been able to spend as much time at art museums as I spent with my family, and also that I could have limited the time I spent with my family to the amount of time I spent at art museums.

But still, at least there weren't any fights. Of course, my Uncle Woods didn't make it, and he's usually the instigator.

I wanted to check out the Byzantine chapel, too, and whatever current exhibitions were around, but I just didn't have the time. I went into the Twombly Gallery sometimes liking his stuff, sometimes not. But seeing it in person, and in an environment he basically designed himself (in collaboration with the architect) turned my into an official Big Twombly Fan. I could've spent probably the whole day there, left to my own devices.

Houston's actually becoming pretty well known for an art city.

Free tip: Don't bother unhooking it. Slide your hand underneath it and play around a bit. Then just slide the bra up. If you're good with the "play around a bit" part, she'll often slide it up herself.

Well, this thread is highly tolerant of the non-sequitor and one must speak of the Menil after one has visited the Menil. I haven't been in a while but they have some incredible shows there. The chapel he's talking about, really, I know nothing of archetecture but that thing is REALLY COOL.

Xebs,

I lost thirty pounds a few years ago and kept it off. Here's some advice.

Try to shoot for about 1 or 2 lbs a week.

If you're losing weight faster than that, you are probably losing muscle and not fat. If you're losing weight slower than that, well, you just aren't getting the results you need to keep your resolve up.

Also, don't get on a plan and see if that works and give up if it doesn't.

You want to treat this like an experiment. Weight loss is shoot and miss. Some programs won't work for you. Sometimes because the actual program doesn't get the weight off. Sometimes because the program doesn't jibe with your personality and you just can't stick to it.

Just, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Be open to changing and fiddling with your weight loss plan.

We're all different but I'll tell you what I did. I didn't want to yo-yo. I wanted whatever changes I made to be permanant. So I was careful to ease into it. I started off very small. I cut out sodas. One thing at a time. First things first, I adjusted to living without all the soda. Once I'd gotten to the point where I didn't really miss them, I cut out potato chips.

For me, slow and steady wins the race.

Anyhoo, good luck!

So when serpent brought up the word nostril - that actually comes from the root nose-thrill. Back in the day, to be thrilled meant to be pierced by arrows. Can't think of the title now, I just finished it. It's on revising fiction, has a generic title, so it's slipping my mind. The last fiction was catcher in the rye.

That's a tough one. Ideally, out on a piece of land where I can write and practice and live in some quiet.

Where's your least favorite place to be?

Summer.

Putting new cat food in the bowl because the cats will not eat 4 hour old food, despite the fact that it's dry food, anyway.

The ability to break things down to their subatomic particles, juggle them, and then return them to their original state completely unchanged instantaneously.

I don't have one, but if I got one, it would be a black and white one of a melancholy swordsman sitting on a black throne across my entire back, a la Elric.

That short guy from the Wizard of Oz. Really, no one of note.

An old backpack that I don't have room for in my house, tire iron, jack, tire, some books, motor and transmission oil.

Under my wife's side, a million magazines. Under my side, all the papers I ever wrote in college, all of my poetry, a few magazines(like five or six), notes for my book, notes for my short stories, early drafts, letters I received, letters I wrote but never sent, briefcase type things people give me because they mistakenly believe I like them(four of those), letters I am working on but may never send, and, if she can find room, my cat.

... Magnum had the drew a bead on some martial arts master villian henchman. The henchman postured like he was going to attack. Magnum said something like "nobody's that fast." Nevertheless the henchman made his move and the immediately cut to a commercial, implying that the martial artist was shot cold dead.

That scene always stuck with me. The plight of the modern martial artist...

What's your favorite article of clothing?

My boots.

Favorite physical feature of the opposite sex?

Face. No double-baggers for me.

What's the last CD that you bought?

I never buy one CD at a time. The last group of CDs I bought was Flogging Molly - Swagger, The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey (Live), Apoptygma Berzerk - Apopcalyptic Manifesto, Tool - Saliva, Aqua - Aquarius.

Last book you read?

I'm in the middle of rereading the Silmarillion, since I haven't read it since 9th grade.

Where's your favorite place to be?

In the gym training, or in front of my computer.

Where's your least favorite place to be?

Anywhere else. Particularly places in which I must wear clothing beyond gym shorts or a bathrobe.

What's your favorite place to be massaged?

This is a family forum!

What's most important, strong in mind or strong in body?

Strong in mind. If you don't have the mental fortitude to exercise and train hard, you'll never get strong in body.

What's your favorite kitchen item?

Garlic.

What makes you really angry?

Willful ignorance. Witch-hunts. Hypocrisy.

If you could play any instrument what would it be?

Violin.

Favorite color?

Black.

Which do you prefer - sports car or SUV?

SUV's have terrible handling on actual roads, terrible gas mileage, and are ugly. I live in New Jersey; even with the occasional camping trip, I rarely have occasion to drive off-road. Sports cars, on the other hand, have little cargo/passenger space, go far faster than I ever need to, and are a good way to get hassled by the cops. Plus, the insurance would be ludicrous. I have a nice sedan that I can fit my legs into.

Do you believe in afterlife?

Yes.

Favorite children's book?

The Hobbit. (Hey, I was in 1st grade when I read it; as far as I'm concerned, it's a children's book.)

What is your favorite season?

Autumn.

What's your least favorite household chore?

Mowing the lawn. It's time consuming.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

Regeneration/indestructibility. Being able to wait five minutes and have a pulled muscle just fix itself would make training so much easier. Not to mention skiing.

If you have a tattoo what is it?

I'm 23; I'm not convinced anything I think is cool enough to go on my body now will still be cool in 5 years. Maybe when I'm 28, I'll get one.

Who is the one person you wish you could go back in time and talk to?

Can't really think of any one person, honestly.

What's your favorite day?

Saturday. CSN's right, this is an asinine question.

What's in the trunk of your car?

Jumper cables, flares, a jack, a tire repair kit, a small tool kit, a small first aid kit, a sleeping bag, windshield wiper fluid, bottled water, bungee cords, plastic bags, and (currently) 310 lbs worth of weights; a Xmas present for my brother that I'm ****ed if I'm gonna lug into the house and wrap. He'll get a card under the tree with "Check my trunk" written in it.

What is under your bed?

Dozens upon dozens of books and graphic novels.

dwid

What's your favorite article of clothing?

My M65 field jacket.

Favorite physical feature of the opposite sex?

Definitely the face.

What's the last CD that you bought?

Kool Keith - Black Elvis/Lost in Space

Last book you read?

Choke - Chuck Palahniuk

Where's your favorite place to be?

Home. What a boring response.

Where's your least favorite place to be?

In line at the post office.

What's your favorite place to be massaged?

I'm not sure I understand this one. I guess my lower back. I tend to carry a lot of tension there.

What's most important, strong in mind or strong in body?

You can't support one without the other.

What's your favorite kitchen item?

Water.

What makes you really angry?

Laziness.

If you could play any instrument what would it be?

The shakuhachi or the pipa.

Favorite color?

A tie between olive and grey. I have no coordination skill, so most of my wardrobe consists of these colors.

Which do you prefer - sports car or SUV?

My '89 Buick Skylark suits my needs...when it's running that is.

Do you believe in afterlife?

It's not a matter of belief. Something comes "after-life," even if that something is nothing... beyond that, it isn't really relevant for me to speculate. Allowing thoughts of life after death to influence how you conduct your life seems rather silly, and not in keeping with my zen-influenced outlook.

Favorite children's book?

I never read many of these. In my preteens I remember enjoying the Bio of a Space Tyrant series by Piers Anthony.

What is your favorite season?

Spring.

What's your least favorite household chore?

Cleaning the bathroom.

If you could have one super power what would it be?

I've got to go with the healing factor/regeneration thing. It's simply too good to pass up.

If you have a tattoo what is it?

I've got too many to mention them all. I have a caricature of H.P. Lovecraft on my left lower leg. I guess that one's unique enough to be noteworthy.

Who is the one person you wish you could go back in time and talk to?

Maybe Aldous Huxley or Philip K. D-I-C-K.

What's your favorite day?

Arbor day.

What's in the trunk of your car?

Spare tire, tools, blanket, antifreeze and other sundries.

What is under your bed?

I have a cat that is terrified of human contact for the most part. She has carved out an entryway into the box spring which she uses for her den. It would be cruel of me to store any items under the bed that could potentially obstruct her path to her "safe place."

Actually, I meant all of the above. I have a small car with a very large trunk. It has my studded leather g-string (studs are on the inside), boobs, The Vines CD, Replay by Ken Grimwood, some nature, a large dose of each of arrogance, hypocrisy & artificiality, my ears, a mind leading a body, a coffee percolator, some more arrogance, hypocrisy, artificiality & lack of compassion, Greed, me playing my guitar, some Octarine, a motorcycle & a push-bike (and a bus and a train), Runaway Ralph, all the seasons, some washing up, Dragons and clouds and fire and stuff and Saturday.

Squeezing Saturday in was a bit of a problem, but it's a very conceptual trunk, so it was ok in the end.

You should come by some time; I'll be having another trunk party soon.

Xeb,

Yeah, I went. It didn't offend me it just made me feel uncomfortable. Obviously, I'm a pretty permissive person. I enjoy sexual inuendo and fun. But this was a complete stranger repeatedly demending in all caps that I tell him if I enjoyed certain oral bedroom activities. Dez pointed out that he didn't know I was a girl.

But, it creeped me out none the less.

And some other guy kept demanding to see a picture.

And all this when I only knew a few people in there and they all knew each other.

Didn't make me angry or anything. It just made me say, "Hey, would you look at the time? I have to go."

Well, I'm not dezhen, but I've read it, so...

To me, it felt like Eddings realized that the parts of his series he most enjoys writing are the parts in the middle (ie, the middle 3 books of his 5 book series') where the members of the protagonist group are all together, they're wandering around adventuring and there's a lot of twists and give-and-take. So in this case, he rushed through all the introductory stuff to get to that point, wrote about it for most of the book, then dropped you abruptly into the ending.

It was interesting and fun to read, but the transition from the beginning to middle was a bit sudden, and the end /really/ felt rushed.

Our chat room is currently offline - part of the revamping of the site. The old chatroom didn't work for a lot of browsers, so we are looking at improving it - along with a lot of other internal functions like the calendar, magazine and e-zine sections. This site has gotten pretty big (got qi? threads fill it up :p ) so we have to do some streamlining too. To be honest, the new chatroom is low on the agenda, but it's definately a function that I want to keep offering, so be patient.

Hey, would you look at the time? I have to go...;)

I think the kinds of songs they write are refreshing. I can just identify easily and that's validating. Take "Karma Police". I'm sure your familiar with that one.

He's angry and frustrated. Like, "I'm working my fingers to the bone here and trying to be a good person and these D!PSH!TS need some comeuppance. I'm going to take those @ssholes down, they deserve it."

Then the whole tone of the song changes. It gets much calmer. He just says, "Phew. For a minute there I lost myself."

I just think that's beautiful. I know that whole scene very well. It usually just plays out in my head and it's nice to know it's playing in other heads as well.

Radiohead? RADIOHEAD?!

If we all listened to radiohead, there would be no problems with the world. Why? Cos we would have all commited suicide a loooong time ago.

Some good songs, but not enough versitility - similar sounding songs appeal to me not. The WORST about them is the way the guy sings his lyrics as if they're so meaningful and amazing.

But they're not.

No.

We escape.

Pack and get dressed
Before your father hears us.
Before all hell breaks loose.

Breathe.
Keep breathing.
Don't lose your mind.

Breathe.
Keep breathing.
I can't do this alone.

Sing us a song.
A song to keep us warm.
There's such a chill.
Such a chill.

You can laugh.
A spineless laugh.
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you.

And now we are one
In everlasting peace.

We hope that you choke.
That you choke.

We hope that you choke.
That you choke.

Dunno why, but this cracked me up this arvo and I'm still chuckling about it:
