Style Difference?

I have been receiving instruction in Jook Lum Tong Leong (Southern style Praying Mantis) and was curious if someone had some insight into the distinct differences in Southern Style Versus Northern Style.

From what little I've seen of both, there seems to be almost no relation to each other(other than being Chinese martial arts, and both inspired/named after praying mantises). It's like comparing Wing Chun and Longfist visually.
