Hi everyone,

My name is Joe Keit, head instructor at the Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Association in Florida. I have been away for a little bit, but have read up on all the Choy Lay Fut posts.

My first sifu was Lee Koon Hung, and now Li Siu Hung, and we are from the Hung Sing branch. I have found everything discussed very interesting and again have learned more from your topics.

I am not one to really care or get into the history of our style too much, but I had to study our history and help translate for Master Li for an article he and I wrote in a magazine once. At our school, our history is taught similar to the Singapore Hung Sing Kwoon.

When I did my research, which was done through many old magazines from Hong Kong (Chan Family & Hung Sing) as well as other sources through elders through my sifu, the stories were all off in different directions.

I then realized like always, it is impossible to know the absolute truth. So when writing the article, I went about it in a speculative way, which is what we really only can do with history.

Frank, Joseph and all the CLF brothers have made this site very interesting, and made everyone think, that is good. But as your CLF brother, I would recommend everyone make their statements stating, my records found this..., or I was taught this..., Or there are a few versions of the same story...

We can only look at these stories for inspiration, and a link to the past. Chan Heung and Jeung Yim were both very intelligent masters in order to develop such a system of high martial art, and I am priveledged to study CLF.

I know I can speak on behalf of CLFNole and other Lee Koon Hung people. One day we hopefully can get together and learn more from each other.

But as always it's a pleasure to read all your posts, it's nice to comunicate with people all over who have the same interests.

Peace be with you!

Joe Keit

Hi!

I was wondering if during your research of articles and such, that if you have heard of a Choy Lay Fut get together with all the branches to settle their disputes at around 1972?

Just wondering...feel free not to answer if you don't want to get into this kind of thing. I know your intentions of this message wasn't to get into all the politics.

Sorry if this does bother you.

iron silk,

I asked my sifu about it, and he said there were alot of arguements, and alot of talk of status and what generation everyone is. But thats all he cared to share, he was smiling and said alot of Kung Fu masters are "ho ma faan" kinda like saying a pain in the ass.

When I was doing my research, alot was written in Chinese, I can speak Cantonese pretty good, but cannot read it, just some symbols, so my sifu translated many of the chinese books and such, but we stayed just to the history in the beginning.

Take care!

Not unlike many other martial arts (namely Wing Chun), Choy Lay Fut's origins are shrouded by more myth than is documented by proven fact. As important as it is to respect those who have come before you, these debates tend to override the more important technical and conceptual aspects of this fighting method.

As Choy Lay Fut must have surely evolved from its original state, it is more important to focus upon why Choy Lay Fut works and how to put its principles to work for today’s practitioners. So even as we proceed to discuss the historical origins of Choy Lay Fut, we must bare in mind that no matter how the Choy Lay Fut method came to be, the method as it exists today is by far more important than the arguments over the historical disparities told by masters and practitioners of divergent lineages.

BTW Joe, I hope the new school isn’t keeping you too busy, bro! ;)

Phil-

I agree with what your saying. However, when people step in on the forum, who won't give their background and who's PROFILE is "shrouded in mystery", that's when the "fur starts to fly."

Sifu Frank has identified himself. Joseph and Serpent continue to hide behind their forum handles. Although, I haven't revealed my true identity I have identified my teacher and background.

Anyways, thanks for your input. Just curious. I don't know much about your branch of CLF. Where does it come from? I checked out your website but it seems more geared towards new recruits, rather than other CLF practitioners.

Could you tell us a little bit about your branch.

Thanks

Hello Brothers,

Straight Blast 5

What's up!?! When are you going to Hong Kong? I might go next April, so you know we will be taken over over there

Straightblast5 is a good friend of mine, he knows his craft. But I will let him tell you his story, he is good people.

Fu Pow,
I couldn't agree with you more about the profile thing. When I first signed up, I didn't fill it out, a few months back I did, even put my picture on there. Still haven't figured out how to put a photo in a reply yet, oh well.

But it is easier to believe some statements if we know where they are coming from, not that it really matters to me much, but to all of our CLF brothers who spend alot of time studying our history. I just hate o see it become like a football game, where people begin to act silly.

It would be unfortunate for more rumors to disrupt our CLF family. we have so much to learn from each other. And our families are growing so it would be nice for a network of some sort to begin.

Peace to All Choy Lay Fut Brothers and Sisters!

Hey Joe!

Keith's taking over Hong Kong right now as we speak! He just left last weekend and already I'm receiving tons of crazy stories from him. As for me, I'll hopefully be leaving sometime next month (I keep getting delayed). If you're heading out there in April, Hong Kong's gonna be in trouble! ;)

Fu-Pow,

I apologize for some of the Choy Lay Fut links being down on our site, they'll be up soon to better explain our lineage and history. As for my background, I study Choy Lay Fut with my father, who himself studied with Grandmaster To Hon Cheung.

Hope this satisfies a little of your curiosity. :)

After re-reading my last post it might have seemed like I was questioning Phil's legitimacy. That was not my intention. My question for Phil about his branch and my criticism of Joseph and Serpent were totally different thoughts. Sorry if I came off that way.

Phil, I rechecked out your website, I think you guys added some new stuff. I really like the part with the 10 techniques. Very informative.

Hung Sing CLF forever!!!!

Fu-Pow,

I didn't interpret your post like that at all, so no worries. I'm glad you found my website informative, keep checking back, more updates are on the way.

Take Care,

Phil

Hey Fu Pow,

I didn't take your previous message in any negative way. Just wanted to introduce my friend to everyone. There has been a lot of people getting angry here later, didn't want people think bad of my boy. :)

But anyway, it's nice to have a little time to come here read all the posts I missed. A lot of action on KFO for CLF. But I hope nobody has taken offense of each other.

Peace

Joe-

Nice new picture!!! I'm trying to get a picture of myself on my profile but I don't have any webspace to put it on.

Anyways,

Just found out Poon Sing and Bucksam Kong are coming to Seattle on Sunday. I've really wanted to meet both of them. It should be interesting.

Peace

Fu-Pow,

See if Sifu mak can put some new pics on the site, it's good to update it here and then. If there is a pic of you on there it will be easy to put on your profile. Mine is linked to our website, which needs to get updated, ha ha ha.

Poon Sing and Bucksam Kong are going to Seattle? Any reason, seminar or something?

That's cool, Poon Sing is a nice guy, very funny and always smiling.

Peace
