Just wondering what everyone wears for training? Sandshoes, boxing shoes, martial arts - what do you wear and why?

I use to wear chucks also but the metal gromets on the lace holes left littlle cherio shaped bruises on my partner when doing conditioning (thigh kicks shoulder kicks ect.)
wrestling shoes are good but curently I am using soccer shoes adidas (sambas 2000).
kung fu shoes suck @ss
stay away from the martial arts shoes they tend to fall apart quickly especialy the sole when doing sweeps. I have seen one brand new pair self destruct in less than one hour I think they were called white tigers or somthing like that.
pick a shoe that has a flat heal and are comforable. They should be somthing you would wear when not training.

Hmmm. I workout on 3 different ground types- flat commercial carpet, tile and earth. I have 4 different kinds of shoes - traditional KF shoes with plastic bottom, tradtional Tai Chi shoes with cotton bottom, Discipline brand martial art shoes and finally, regular street shoes/sneakers (and of course, bare foot).

Frankly I have different shoes for different applications or environments, but using different foot wear in each of the situations helps develop overall, as you'll never know what "real" situation you may end up in.

I like the Discipline shoes the best, overall. I think these are very similar to the "Tiger Claw" shoes at Martial Arts Mart here.

TRAIN IN WHAT YOU WEAR EVERYDAY!

Sheesh! Why pay for and wear shoes ONLY for training
when you will NEVER get in a real fight with them on?

Thanks guys,

It seems we all go pretty much for a light, flat soled shoe for training. I'm interested in checking out some new brands, so your experiences are invaluable.

Bong, I hear what you're saying about training for real life. What I do is workout maybe once every six to eight weeks in street clothes to test my form in regular clothes. Another side of the coin is, that by training with specialist equiptment (uniform, footwear), we are able to reach the highest levels of performance - something like an olympic gymnast or runner. Reliable shoes that perform well can be valuable, but I do respect your view - thank you!

Used to wear Lotto indoor soccer shoes but found they had insufficient support for MA. Now I just wear my Brooks Beast runners.

I wear my shoelaceless "And1" sneakers when I teach.

This is because when I teach, I'm constantly sparring and moving. If I wear anything harder, I'll give myself unending corns. And when I wear shoes with laces, I'm constantly having to retie them.

On my own, I'll train in any footwear on any surface.

I wear Dicipline Footwear shoes ( www.disciplinefootwear.com ), these are great traing shoes. As far as train in what you wear, well I wear regular shoes to work but I usually wear the shoes I train in when I am not at work.;)

Ah, at the moment I'm not wearing any because my former ones kind of broke. So I'm planning to buy the white Tiger Claw shoes from MartialArtsMart.

Wow, with all of our preferences for quality, Pine Tree taekwondo shoes will probably go bust;) Thanks for your replies!

You guys, use our forum for free and it takes all the way down to the 2nd page for someone to plug www.MartialArtsMart.com. You should all learn from GHD. He's a good forum member. The rest of you could stand to learn from his shining example.
