John Di Virgilo, I'm assuming that is who John D is:

This is John Kang, student of Lo Man Kam. When we met in Taipei several years ago, you mentioned that WC could be described in terms of five elements and the controlling and generating cycles. At the time, it meant nothing to me; but now that I am an acupuncturist, I am much more curious, and much better armed to understand the theory.

I was wondering if you could tell me again which hand motions fell under the corresponding elements!

& if anyone knows how the "5 element footwork" that Yip Chun alluded to in his book fits in to todays terminology, please feel free to chime in.

Also, does anyone know how you can describe chi sao within the 5 elements concept?

I know that the water element is suppose to represent soft, flowing and with a lot of changes, but what do the other elements represent?

Could the fire element in chi sao represent strong, fast, non stop attacks to your opponenet?

The metal element a really firm, yet sensitive approach with minimal changes?

How about the earth element representing slow, sticking chi sao?

Does anyone have any ideas for the wood element?

Any thoughts or comments?
