Man,what a cool party last night.About 2 blocks away from my house there was this huge holloween party.I didn't know anyone there, but I saw all the cars parked out front and all the people on the front porch so I put my uniform on and a BRUCE LEE bandana and took my rubber chucks and crashed the party.Once I walked in the door this mummy hands me a beer and I said cool.loud music was playing, people were dancing,It was packed and I blended right in.
I was there for about 2 hours when some drunk came up to me and said"let me see those nunchucks" I handed them to him and he said "these are made of rubber, you don't know karate".I said it's Kung Fu not karate but yes I do know karate and Kung Fu.All of a sudden he yells BULL**** in my face along with some spit.I said may I have my rubber chucks back.He dangeled them in front of my face and said "try and get em karate man". Well I snatched them out of his hands in a fraction of a second. Then he pushed my head with the palm of his hand and said "what are ye gonna do about it"(I'm thinking this guy is insane to pick a fight with me,but he is drunk)Then he takes this large round house swing at me and it was very easy to block and I counterd with a quick hard jab to the far head.He fell down and it was over.

Then I met this cute girl there (and my girl friend is at her moms house at the time)She was sweet but her a-ss was a little fat but I still ended up making out with her on the sofa.
over all it was a great party.I just got up,it's sunday morning and I had to tell someone.
Thanks for letting me bend your ear.

Awesome story! one time I was in NYC and got invited to a party. I didn't have a costume so I wore my clothes inside out, like my underwear (clean thankfully) over my pants and even pulled my socks over my shoes and was inside out guy. I saw a picture of myself later, I was really drunk and had a visor on inside out and upside down. I looked really stupid but had a good time nonetheless.
In Leung Ting's Wing Chun book, he has this guy who has a monobrow and "Wrong" written across his chest, usually demonstrating an incorrect posture or something. That would be a cool costume, the "wrong" guy. I don't think I'd pick a fight with a guy in a kung fu outfit even if it was halloween.

I took my little ones trick-or-treating last night.

Matthew was dressed as a spaceman and Patrick as a fireman in memory of the brave men and women we lost on Nov. 11. He was carrying a wicked (but plastic) looking axe that looked like something a Half-Orc Barbarian from D&D would use to split open hobgoblin skulls.

They were both real cute and Dad got to drag them all over the neighborhood in their red wagon. (Riding in style) Wore my tail out, I don't mind telling you, but they had a GREAT time so it was worth it. :D

A gang of fellow night crew volunteers with Rock Med (http://www.rockmed.org) go by the moniker Jedi Night Krew. We all got dressed up as Jedi last year to silly string our show manager at the Exotic Erotic (http://www.exoticeroticball.com). It was very entertaining.

I like to merge threads, especially in the media forum, when I get the chance. It makes for a better archival read. Merging the holiday threads and the B-day threads is particularly amusing because it provides this odd time capsule effect and a very surreal read if you start from the beginning. The only problem is that it's time consuming to dig through the archives and collect all the threads, but we do what we can.

For some reason, I'm having a hard time visualizing SevenStar as a sumo wrestler...

second i wasnt particularly impressed with any of rob zombies film ventures in the past. i didnt hate, just wasnt awed.

but after the past few days of previews i think ill actually shell out at the theatre for this one.

it looks like its going to be shot from more of a personal aspect with Myers so it might be pretty cool.

Greetings,

Some fims suggestions for 10/31/07:

Horror Hotel (aka City of the Dead): Considering the time it was made, this film is the bomb. It is about witchcraft and human sacrifice in a New England town, where good and evil exist side by side. It also features a very young Christopher Lee. The pacing is excellent and the opening score is just fantastic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF8PaKcJNWQ

John Carpenter's The Thing: FANTASTIC!!!! A must see. A mysterious shapeshifting alien is discovered in the Artic (or is it Antartic) that tries to embed itself in a series of hosts in order to survive. This flick still holds up and will scare the slime out of children and adults too!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbtUjskfyA0

Hellraiser and Hellraiser II: What's your pleasure? A mysterious box, a la Rubic's Cube, transports the user into the world of the Cenobites, masters of a very austere practice the bridges the gap between pleasure and pain. Geared for adults.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9rXNnv4n5A

Fiend Without a Face: This film was the inspiration to the face hugger in Alien. Invisible brains, spines attached, try to take over the world. Their spine is used to strangle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyrnZ0m7AeA

They Live: A fantastic low budget movie about alien control of our society via subliminal messages and the media. Stars Rowdy Roddy Piper and Kieth David. Another John Carpenter Classic.

Another good one is Invasion Body Snatchers (Donald Sutherland).

Suspiria (1977). This Italian film, filmed and set in Germany, is about an American woman who goes there to study at an exclusive dance academy that she comes to realize is run by witches. Although the basic plot doesn't sound like all that, this movie has a very creepy/menacing atmosphere. And although it is mostly all atmosphere, the opening murder scene is surprisingly graphic and realistic, and holds up just as well today as it did back then.

The House by the Cemetery (1981). This one is also creepy, and has a couple of pretty believable murder scenes. Also an Italian film, it has a creepy monster, Dr. Freudstein, who lives in the basement of a New England mansion.

Phantasm (1978). The first installment has long been a favorite of mine. I'll just say that the setting of the funeral home, the Tall Man, flying sphere and midget monsters make this a fun ride.

Infection (2002). This film was made in Japan and is a good phychological thriller about an odd infection that begins taking over the staff of a hospital. When you really examine it, this is a film about the consequences that are visited on medical professionals who lose all empathy for their patients.

The Evil Dead (1982). 'Nuff said.

The Re-Animator (1985). University medical students experiment with a serum that brings the dead back to life.

Dog Soldiers (200?). A great British movie that is a combination action/horror film about a group of soldiers on a training exercise in the Scottish Highlands that encounters a family of werewolves. I liked the performances and the werewolf effects are quite well-done.

Bubba Ho-Tep (2002). This horror-comedy is about what if Elvis didn't really die, but a double that he paid to take his place? The real Elvis is now in a Texas convalescent home with a black man who calls himself JFK, and they uncover evidence of an Egyptian mummy wearing cowboy boots who sucks the souls of the elderly. Bruce Campbell does a hilarious Elvis.

The Howling (1981). A decent, campy flick that nonetheless has, IMO, the single greatest werewolf transformation scene in cinema.

Evil Dead Trap (1985). A Japanese version of the '80s slasher horror flick.

Demons (1985). This Italian movie (also taking place in Germany) is about a horror movie premiere in which the audience becomes infected by the evil from the movie and become flesh-eating demons.

28 Days Later. You've probably seen this already, but one of the better new horror films.

it doesn't get better than Kubrick's The Shining -- probably my favorite Nicholson performance in a lifetime of stellar performances. Everything about that film is just so creepy -- even the score and the cinematography. And Kubrick manages to keep the tension and suspense going throughout the movie with almost no gore. I've seen it probably a dozen times and it never gets old ...

Some of my favorites in recent years have been:

Frailty (2001, Bill Paxton, Matthw McConaughey) about a psychotic mechanic who raises his two son to butcher people with axes because God has marked them as demons

Event Horizon (1997, Lawrence Fishburne, Sam Neill) my favorite Sci-Fi Horrow movie since Aliens

Skeleton Key (2005, Kate Hudson) -- a movie about Hoodoo with a wicked twist of an ending right up there with Seven and Fallen

I'm thinking of checking 30 Days of Night out on Halloween night -- then again, I could go to a free Alice Cooper concert here in Phoenix which would be cool in its own right.

I second the motion for Bubba Ho-tep.. Bruce Campbell is the best Elvis ever..(and the explination of how Elvis is "alive" was very clever)
Shaun of the dead, kind of more of a comedy, but the zombies arent treated with comedic intent, and thats why it works, plus its just a great movie.
Any of George A. Romero's "living dead" trilogy (i know there are four, but true fans know there are three, note how in Night of they are referred to as Ghouls, or those things, not zombies..and while considered some as "B" films this is the first trilogy of films to ever be remade, showing an influence beyond any other film in any genere)
John Carpenters Halloween...(hopefully Micheal Myeres' next victim is Rob Zombie)
I havent seen it , but isnt there a movie called Shaolin Vs. Evild Dead ?
Dracula .
Creature from the black lagoon
Christine
Sleepy Hollow
From Hell
The Shining

Carnival of Souls (1962). This is a very low-budget black & white film that gave me the creeps way back when I was a kid; it still has great atmospherics. About a female church organist who is the sole survivor of a car crash, who moves to a new town but is stalked by the specter of death. The end scene should be watched alone in a dark house late at night. No blood, no gore, no violence, and more effective for it.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). The original is still the best. This kinda disturbed me as a kid, but in recent decades (since the '80s) it's become one of my faves. In fact, my adult niece and I know the characters/script by heart and joke about it a lot. There are disturbing parts, all, again, without any actual graphic gore. That takes considerable more skill to do than today's over-the-top blood-n-guts killfests.

I agree that John Carpenter's original Halloween is still the best (and only good,IMO) Michael Meyers movie.

The original A Nightmare on Elm Street was a good movie until it was ruined by all the sequels and the making of Freddy Krueger into an "icon".

The Legend of Hell House (1973). Great haunted house movie, about the "Mount Everest of haunted houses" in England. A team is assembled to investigate the Belasco House; the team includes the lone survivor of the previous team.

The Haunting (1963). Forget the remake; the original is one of the more realistic and well-made haunted house movies of all time. Not action-packed, it's all psychological and hypnotic. Most of the audible script is the thoughts of the main character as it's happening, which differentiates it from virtually any movie I've ever seen.

Carrie (1976). Not a scary movie, but I've always liked the story and the acting by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in particular. An unpopular teen with telekinetic powers is finally pushed too far.

John Carpenter's The Fog (1979). A good old-fashioned ghost story. 'Nuff said.

Army of Darkness (1992). The third installment of the Evil Dead trilogy. This one never fails to crack me up. It also has some indoor sets which are almost reminiscent of the old Shaw Brothers sets (but in an old European style).

While I appreciate the foundation of Screamin Jay, I gotta say that the Jeff Beck/Joss Stone version of this is somewhat cleaner and more listenable and not a novelty song as it originally was.

remember those? novelty songs? lol monster mash, pretty much and rock band christmas album, ray stevens, the rest...lol

anyway, check out Beck and Stone doing that song.

David Jamieson,

I took the time to listen to Joss Stone.

Though the band was nice, the singer's Michael "bust a gut" Boltonisms was a real turn off. I think more could have been done with it And she did not have that connection with her band. It was like they were in different dimensions. When you do a cover, you really have to put your stamp on it and make it yours. Tom Jones did it with Burning Hell. Hot dang, it was good!! But thank you for sharing that with me. It was a very different kind of experience.

Greetings David Jamieson,

I found the recording and it is WAY WAY WAY BETTER than the live performance. I really like it. She is connected with the band and they are really bouncing off each other. The live performance did not have that at all. It was more like, "Hey! What about us? This is not a solo performance."

I normally paint my face up like a stylistic skull (see below), but I'm not doing it this year because it takes forever to put on and forever to take off. Plus, the black paint stains my eyelashes black, making it look like I'm wearing mascara. It's embarrassing because people think I'm wearing makeup when I go into work the next day.

http://imageshack.us/a/img39/633/headingtotheofficebygho.jpg

I just finished making a last minute Halloween prop for my nephew. He wants to go as a "Ninja Assassin Mario." He has the Mario hat and mustache, but he didn't have a workable sword. He had used an old red yard stick a few years before as a sword. He just painted the blade with a silver paint marker, and then he wrapped one end in blue painters tape to act as a hilt. His mother didn't want to spend any money on costume stuff this year, so I took the the yard stick sword and made some improvements. First, I cut the end to look like the point of a Japanese sword. Second, I put two layers of duck tape on it to make the blade look like metal. Third, I slid on a cardboard hand guard. Fourth, I wrapped the hand guard and the blue painters tape tightly in electrical tape. Fifth, I wrote 死神 ("God of Death") on the blade to give it an authentic Asian feel. It took about 25 minutes for everything. It turned out pretty good considering what it looked like beforehand.

I'm a little bummed. I've been busy so I just picked one of my formal Shaolin robes from my closet and grabbed my favorite Dao. Usually our graphic design crew totally kicks ass and puts everyone to shame in the costume contest. This year, they bailed. So I probably could have won if I put more effort into it.

I was not handing out candy this year but taking a little one around the streets. Was told, we got all of 20 kids. My street, the people on it SUCK ! There was maybe 7 homes on a streeet of idk, 40 homes with their lights on. My street is long so those 7 are spread out. We were the only homes were there was a cluster of 3 homes , The rest you walk 3-4 homes or more to the next house open. Almost all the streets are like this now. Except one 2 streets over. 70 % of the homes a Halloweeen friendly.. So, I put the kid in the car and drove to the RICH-RICH people streets- He scored full sized candy bars there.

Sad really. Halloween sucks now and has been worse and worse every year around here for the most part. probably the last decade. Maybe it is because people are broke for the last 10 years ? Oh, well, he is little enough to have had a great time and be excited still. 11. My oldest boy it was still great on Halloween. Almost eveyone was handing out candy and decorated and stuff.

But, as always, there is one home. every years he turns his detached 2 car garage into some sort of theme walk through. He did not disappoint this year either. Still the best on the area for Halloween and I appreciate all the work he does for a couple of hours for children. Real nice guy and his wife. They love seeing the kids faces when we come out the haunted house.

edit- I am sorry, I forgot to ask how you guys did ? Is it still nice in your areas or are people turning off the lights and closing the doors?

HOUSTON (NEXSTAR/KIAH) — It hasn’t happened in decades! For the first time since the 1940s, Halloween will receive some spooky ambiance from a full moon this year.

For many people, the Halloween full moon will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. The last time it occurred was in 1944, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. The next one isn’t expected to happen until 2039, NASA said.

Although Saturday’s moon will be a “blue” moon, it won’t actually appear to be blue. Scientists use the term to describe the second full moon of a given month, which only occurs about once every 2 1/2 years, NASA said.

According to the Farmers Almanac, the first full Moon of 2020 howled onto the scene with January’s Wolf Moon on Jan. 10. And usually, we have one for each month, making the total 12 for the year. But on occasion, some months will have two full Moons.

That’s the case for this month. There was a full Moon on Oct. 1, known as the Harvest Moon, which usually appears in September. It is so named because it occurs closest to the autumnal equinox. The Sept. 2 full moon occurred too early to be known as the harvest moon.

Two full moons to shine in October
The second is coming up on Oct. 31 — a Halloween Blue Moon. It is also called the Hunter’s Moon because it usually occurs in October, the month when traditionally game was fattened and preparations for winter began.

This year’s Blue Moon, which will turn full at 10:49 a.m. EDT, will be a rare Halloween treat.

That's a good idea to train in frigid temperatures. Will have to try that. This summer I was intentionally practicing in progressively higher temperatures. The crime rate statistically tends to increase with temperature, and full moons. Really.

Entertainment company denies sword swallowing was behind medical call to Six Flags (https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/maryland/sword-swallower-injured-at-six-flags-bowie/65-5f84e9cb-ca9e-4f39-9548-b1af74be727a)

The performer was working for magician Aaron Radatz' production company Saturday night, according to a Six Flags spokesperson.

BOWIE, Md. — A representative for the company staging a Halloween magic performance at Six Flags America in Bowie says an emergency call that medics described as a serious injury caused by sword swallowing was caused by an “unrelated medical condition.”
The call for help came from Six Flags in Bowie between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
“It was not for an accident during the show but rather for other unrelated health conditions…,” reported Josh Bowren, the Production Manager for Aaron Radatz Productionz which staged the show according to Six Flags officials.
Bowren did not name the actor, who he described as “our sword swallower," and authorities have not released the name of the injured person. The performer was a 59-year-old man who was in serious but not life-threatening condition when he was transported to Capital Region Health Hospital in Largo Saturday night, rescuers said.
Rescuers described the weapon to medical workers as "a haunted house sword" and said it occurred during a "Halloween show."
A spokesperson for Six Flags said the company's “thoughts and prayers are with the performer and his family.”
According to the company's website, magician Aaron Radatz, 47, and his wife April are featured performers who also produce productions with casts at locations throughout the U.S.
The couple posted live on Facebook from Six Flags America in Bowie on their Facebook page about a half hour before the time of the Saturday night accident.
Prince George’s County police report officers responded to the accident because they at first feared a stabbing or cutting attack.

And how was your Halloween?

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Pizza Hut Taiwan has released a Halloween special that features rice noodle rolls and chicken feet, and is said to be the world's first pizza that tells ghost stories.

Following the launch of "Eyeball Pizza" last year, Pizza Hut Taiwan on Tuesday (Oct. 24) announced the limited-edition "Ghost Rice Noodle Roll and Phoenix Claw Pizza." It transforms Hong Kong-style barbecued pork rice noodle rolls and smoked chicken feet into Halloween elements.

The pizza portrays rice noodle rolls as little Halloween ghosts and pairs them with chicken feet, making them look like ghosts coming out of the ground and reaching with severed hands for candy.

The pizza is based on a thin crispy crust, topped with a Korean-style special spicy sauce and a secret seasoning that creates a multi-layered flavor. It is topped with sprinkles of mozzarella cheese, offering a fusion of international flavors.

In addition to its appearance, the pizza is purported to be the world's first "storytelling pizza." Customers can scan the QR code on the pizza box with their phone and upload a photo of the ghostly noodles on the event page.

This will provide them with access to listen to a podcaster named "Talking Story" sharing ghost stories, enhancing their sensory experience while enjoying the pizza.

From Oct. 24-30, the "Ghost Rice Noodle Roll and Chicken Claw Pizza" will be available to PK APP members for one-week early bird pre-order. The general public will be able to purchase the devilish dish across Taiwan starting Oct. 30.

People born in year of Rabbit, Rooster, Rat, and Dragon should avoid dressing as skeletons or demons

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwanese numerologist recommends that seven types of people avoid dressing up as the dead or evil spirits on Halloween to avoid bad luck.

Although Halloween is not a traditional Taiwanese festival, Yang Teng-ke (楊登嵙), a folk customs expert and founding chairman of the Taichung Numerology Education Association, was cited by UDN as warning about some folk taboos. Yang said seven types of people should avoid dressing as skeletons or demons on Halloween.

According to Yang, the following seven types of individuals should avoid dressing as skeletons or demons as it may make them susceptible to disturbances from evil spirits or becoming "stuck with yin," meaning that they may become plagued with negative energy.

1. Zodiac signs that offend Tai Sui

In the lunisolar calendar, this year is the Year of the Rabbit, and the guardian god of the year is Tai Sui, guardian god of the year. Yang said four zodiac signs conflict with Tai Sui including the Rabbit, Rooster, Rat, and Dragon.

An old folklore saying states, "When Tai Sui is in charge, if there is no joy, there may be misfortune." The four above-mentioned zodiac signs are believed to be more prone to weak fortunes and bad luck and are more susceptible to interference by evil spirits.

2. Serious illnesses

People who have recently recovered from a major illness or are still in the early stages of such an illness may have weakened vitality, making them vulnerable to evil spirits.

3. Poor luck or fortune

People with poor fortune or those who have experienced a breakup, divorce, business failure, or unemployment. At this stage, their luck is already bad enough, but if they dress up as skeletons or demons, they may also provoke spirits that bring negative energy or misfortune.

4. Glabella turning dark

The yintang (印堂) or glabella is the patch of skin between the eyebrows. If this part of the forehead becomes darker than usual, it signifies that one's luck could weaken shortly and the probability of encountering danger has risen.

5. Lack of sleep

If a person is not getting enough sleep, their mental state may be weak and they could be vulnerable to intrusion by evil spirits.

6. Drinkers

After drinking alcohol, a person's vision blurs and their mental state deteriorates. In this state, they can become particularly susceptible to interference by evil spirits, which can lead to regrettable incidents.

7. Pregnant women

During the first six months of pregnancy, fetuses are the most vulnerable to the clash of yin and yang energies, as the yin energy in the spiritual realm is relatively heavy during this period. This clash could potentially affect the health and safety of pregnant women and their fetuses.

Obviously, Drinkers and Lack of sleep, but its worse if its your natal year (especially the 60 year one for your element). So you have until next year to sober up, otherwise you may need help from your so-called helper animal, which for a Dragon would be a Rooster...
