I know this may sound stupid but what exactly is 'Lei Tai'? Better to sound stupid now than REALLY stupid later. Thanks in advance.

a leitai is a platform that fighting contests are held on. Usually measuring 2' tall and 24'x24' there are no ropes like modern boxing rings.

In modern sanshou you can push throw your opponent off the leitai for huge point value. If you throw him off twice in one round you automatically win the round. whomever wins 2 rounds first get the Victory.

The leitai's history goes back to old china where a leitai would be constructed in the town center for a kung fu man who wanted to prove himself.

I've heard that in severe instances there were deep moats surrounding some leitai. the moat was filled with sharp spikes and that falling off meant certain doom. Of course we all know how colorful old kungfu stories are so take that last one with lots of embellishment :p
