I have a good friend in the army who's got a serious knee injury, to the point that he almost needs a cane to walk. He's been going nuts because he can't exercise as much as he prefers; he feels like he's getting out of condition. Can anyone suggest some form of cardio that he could do, given his knee condition? Obvious, running and skipping rope are pretty much out...

I think his knee is bad enough that it won't support a good shot to the heavy bag, but I'll suggest it. Swimming's probably a good idea, though.

swimming is the best idea, because the only impact you'll feel is when you dive badly and flop hard on your backside. :)

that, and it's one of the best full-body workouts you can get.

Agree that swimming might be good. But, he needs to plan in advance how to kick and move it without hurting knee, to get the most out of this exercise.

best,
