Definitely a pile of something.

IMO most people in cults (that e-mail was definitely from someone in a religious cult) don't want to think for themselves. They want someone else to take over and assume they'll be perfectly safe.

A person who thinks for himself is a benefit to his religion, his family, and himself.

People who spout religious garbage like those folks are full of hatred for others and themselves. They're also extremely annoying.

Yeah.
Nothing to be really concerned about, unless you have lots of excessive compassion..
Just thought that was interesting.
Thanks for posting.

Bring it on!

And I often wonder why some people think Christians are froot loops:rolleyes: These people sure don't help.

I didn't read all of the replies there but I really liked the reply from the orginal poster to the cult guys reply.

I think the Lord wants us to prepare and be able to defend ourselve. There is a lot of difference between running around hitting people and starting fights and walking down the street and defending your self and helping others, or fighting for your freedom, or participating in a sport.

These same people probably think the military are devil spawns. Could you imagine if we sat back and never fought for our freedom, we wouldn't be here that's for sure.

Oh-well, there are nuts in every cheese ball.

didn't read all the replies, but the author's response was pretty keen.

Some folks just aren't able to read into the meaning of the scriptures. For instance, the "turn your other cheek" thing. If someone were to break into your house, and shoot your oldest son, do you then tell the shooter to go ahead and shoot your youngest son too? The answer is no. A lot has to do with intention.
But if you hit back, no matter for what cause, then you have not resisted evil, and have become partakers of the evil.
I take this to mean that if someone slashes the tires on my car, and it really angers me, I would be wrong if I go looking for them with the intention to hurt them for what they have done to me. If someone tries or does manage to hit you, and you put them on the ground, it's so they will not have the opportunity to hurt you again, not because you are some demon-posessed hate-filled warmonger.

We are still human beings. The bible itself states that Jesus died to cleanse us of our sins. It's not like you turn to Christ and automatically never sin again. It's about realizing when you have sinned, asking for forgiveness, and making every effort not to repeat those sins. The bible says that if you accept Jesus as the son of God and confess it with your tongue you are saved. I find it hard to believe that getting together with a group of good people who don't engage in crime, who take care of their bodies, who respect one another, who try and protect children and women from evil folks...would disqualify you from entering heaven.

We need more opinionated bible bashers! Then all the dirty martial artists around the world can be rounded up and burnt at the stake!

Honestly, doesn't it say somewhere that God helps those who help themselves?

We have heard from many in martial arts who try and twist this, and say it does not mean what it says. But such people are liars, because Jesus does not lie
Matthew 7:1 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged".

That's a quote from Ben Franklin.

Who is a fine source of interesting and thought provoking quotes, but I doubt many Christians take him as gospel. :D

As for that letter...

"So as an example we should look at Him, and follow Him completely in every part of our lives....Jesus never hit back, no not even in self-defence."

John 2:14-2:15 "In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers at their business. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables."

So, since we should look to Him as an example, their real problem with us is we're doing all our fighting with godless hands and feet and heathen Chinee weaponry. If we were beating each other up with knotted cords, everything would be groovy. :D

Ben Franklin, hey?

I knew it wasn't a biblical quote - but I didn't know the source.

here's some Franklin:

" When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God doesn not take care to support it so that its professors are obliged to call for help of the civil, 'tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason."

David Jamieson

more Franklin -

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy"

yep, Ben was a cool guy :D

as for the turn the other cheek reference, this was topical to the times and was meant as a statement of defiance as in "is that all you got?"

Consider this, why did Jesus even let Peter carry a sword if he was a peacenik? imo, Jesus was as far from peacenik and closer to radical thinker aching for change and to bring his fellows out from under the yolk of roman oppression. He was a strong leader and a great speaker. He was a healer and had mastery over his own pain. Truly, a Kung fu master in his own right.

In my own personal belief system, it is a shame that his image has been cast into disrepute by those who elevated him to the status of God. He was a man, with a message on how to successfully live you life in harmony with all the universe.

Unfortunately, there are in this world "fanatics" who cannot and will not take his advice and instead rely on out of context quotes taken from empty pages of half forgotten books to lead them around.

As long as they don't start up in my neighborhood, I'm ok with the Christians. :D

That's all pretty funny and what not but to bring it back round to MAs, maybe this one? (http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebcbull//fistsgod.htm) :D

Ah yes...another group of people concentrating so hard on the finger that they are missing all that heavenly glory. ;)

I wrote to them thus:

"Hey Guys! I just read your article about Martial Arts and God. And I must confess that as a Christian I found it thought provoking in many ways. The first time I read it I genuinely thought it was a humorous article, however a fellow Christian drew my attention to the fact that it was apparently serious.

Is it or is it not serious? A simple yes or no will suffice. I have spoken to lots of online organisations that feel the need to quote half a page of bible quotes to justify their points of view. Not that I'm saying this will be the case, just letting you know in advance. Being a regular reader of the Bible (Daniel is my fave book) I know most of the quotes anyhow ;).

If serious I commend you for your passion, even if I disagree with the content. In fact I am horrified (surprising in this day and age) in the message put across. Perhaps a detailed study of the Martial Arts might make your article a little more credible. No offense, but a landslide of words and quotes cannot cover the fact that the writer has had little to no experience with the martial arts. I do not expect to change your minds (if the article is serious) but as a Christian Martial Artist (who you seem to be reaching out to) the ignorance put forward in the article automatically sways me from your message. Would you accept someone preaching Christianity who didn't know the love of Jesus? Probably not. The same goes for the Martial Arts.

Thanks and peace,

Wolfgang K"

I wonder how they'll reply?

While I don't know if posting it on their web site is serious, the idea that the MAs are anti-Xian or satan's playthings or whatall is a seriously proposed thing.

It originally comes from Larson's Book of Cults, Tyndale House Publ., Wheaton, 1983, page 27, by Bob Larson.

A mocking reference-quote from the Cultmaster 2000 site: "They wear exclusive uniforms, have strict rules and codes they must follow, give allegiance to human leaders, have varying levels or degrees in their priesthood-like system of advancement, and jump around while shouting strange words. (And when a human body flies twenty feet through the air after getting a mild bump from a typical ninja in the movies, you know demonic power must be involved.)"

Anyone ever been to a Pentecostal church? LOL! :p

ZIM,

Have you ever read through the actual chick tracts? They're hilarious. There's one about the bible that claims the world is 10,000 years old and another about evolution that claims scientists found a two million year old human skull.

Jack Chick seems to think humans predate the earth by 1,990,000 years.

"Evolution will stop when stupidity is no longer fatal"

or

"When evolution is outlawed, only outlaws will evolve."

I like either one! Yes, I've seen all the chick comix I can handle- you can send away for boxes of the dam'able things, if you want...all free....but man, that mailing list KILLS! :D

It was a hobby of mine awhile ago, sending away for all the nutbag stuff. I got stuff I never sent for, all really hilarious things. Guess I'm a geek....but the postman does my bidding through hypnosis, now...:D :D

I haven't seen those in a while, it's a shame, because they're quite amusing, :D http://www.bumperstatements.com/make.ihtml There's a site that you can use to make your own bumper stickers, eulerfan. The funniest chick book I've ever seen was the "Back From the Dead" book. It has this hilarious quote from the preacher dude(You all know him, haha) of "Satan's got kids into punk rock believing hell will be party time, but it's not, and they'll never see their friends again." Haha! Ironically, that booklet was given to me as I was waiting in line to go see a punk band(D.I.) around 10 years ago, :D

Objection Mi Lord

In reality the Bible is hearsay, we do not really know what Jesus was teaching as it was written by other people not him!!

Have any of you read Sophies World by Jostein Gaarder, that has to be the ultimate mind fu.ck. Bewarned it may send you mad!!!

chack this out (http://www.unamerican.com/catalog/index.htm) it's one of my favorites!

Chick booklets are the BEST! :D Such an irony! If you've got any of those scary christian bookstores where you live, try picking up some of their full-out comic books too- I read/saw more wanton destruction, depictions of rape, etc. in one of those than anywhere...not for the kids!

I like the "Adults are dumb" sticker.

It reminds me of this comedian I saw recently. He was talking about how retarded the idea of respecting your elders is. You can buy it when you're young but then something happens to you when you're around 27-28. Some teen calls you "sir" or "ma'am" and it hits you......"Wait a minute! I'm an adult. And I'm still an idiot. I haven't become wise. I'm more confident but I'm the same little retard I was when I was his age!"

That was great because I'm at that age myself when it begins to dawn on you that who you were at 16 is who you are going to be for the rest of your life.
