View Full Version : How would you deal with an Ashihara karate fighter?

Ashihara practitioners can attack you from so many different angles and are good at throwing low, powerful kicks, making for a dangerous opponent. What kind of strategy would work well against an Ashihara fighter? Thanks in advance.

Slightly rhetoric question in a way,but very specific.
Not karate, but actually one, single, relatively small style of karate...
Why?
Besides, you could say the same of many other styles, not to mention stylists.

Well, Ashihara is pretty unique for karate, although its offshoots have similarities to it. I think having to deal with low kicks can be tough enough to deal with, but when you add deceptive footwork to it, it becomes even more difficult to contend with. Plus, they train to fight full-contact, so they are used to getting hit. I think that is somewhat of a unique combination.

I'd use striking and grappling.

sorry dude i hav no idea about ashihara karate...
wat i know is "one should know his/her onw boundaries, where it starts n where it ends"
the way u explained is not much different but the prob is that we treat styles like TKD n karate much of striking arts...n if we face oppnt who can throw, grapple give us probs...
so i think getting out of that sort of mentality will help first...
then ur footwork will play a crucial role(it always will play)...
about those low kicking n all u hav to swift on foot(again footwork)

The same way I would deal with any other Opponent:

"To the best of my ability".

Even though I might think that I know his game I won't truly until I studied his style in depth.

never sparred someone in that style, but try this:

You gotta stay mobile and you have to work your shin blocks. your shins will protect you from the kicks, and your footwork, combined with your head movement and parries will should allow you to deal with his stiking from all angles. I can't see the guy, so I really can't give you any offensive tips, like holes in his defense, etc. Work the above though, and use them to create openings that you can capitalize on.

Why are you so specific on the style? Izzit because you intend to spar such a practioner or are u just tossing ideas around?

Most people on this forum don't know anything much about "Ashihara" style Karate, so if you had abstracted the key elements of the style that you are concerned with and related them in your post then you might receive more useful response.

karate rules!!! plain and simple
what else do you need ?

I mean you never see kung fu in ufc

Know why

Because kung fu does not work

while your doing your ballet and all that fancy crap, a karate practioner already has 5 strikes to your body

call it what it is
Ballet Fu!!

Great, another karate troll  Why don't you go bang your head on a makiwara or something? Better yet, go back to training in your southern chinese influenced style. It would do you WAY more good than you and any other trolls do us.

Not another troll thread?
Not that IŽd participate but if this was martialtalk, then we would be told to "keep it clean".
Not hide behind our fave fighters and arts and do our best to ruin their reputation as far as we can.
