OK! this photo interests me! i never knew/seen yip man use iron ring before nor any other wing chun people...

any comments or information on this pic?

I read somewhere that Bruce Lee showed Yip Man the rings... have no idea if he favoured their use.

I'm not sure of the point of them with tan sau... with weight pushing down on the tan wouldn't you be using force upwards to maintain shape, and wouldn't this be exerting force in the wrong direction?

Nice pic, though. That site has a page with one or two Yip Man photographs I'd not seen. :)

I can just imagine the problems with taking the picture - everytime they put a ring on, his arm would flip to bong sau & it'd fall off!!

take a gander at yip man's bicep -- it's pretty well engaged. i doubt he'd favor any practice in which his muscles would be contracted like that.

besides, if the pressure was going straight down, maybe he would huen sau around it and step in and punch? :confused:
