So, anybody catch the iron crotch guy? Looks pretty painful. Is there any point behind it? Does it even have anything to do with kung fu? I mean sure, the guy can tie weights to his wang and pull a truck with it but is that it? Seems more like walking on glass, just a parlor trick.

That guy would be Grandmaster Tu Jin-Sheng.

I don't see what the big deal is, except that maybe you could take an axe kick to your balls.

You can do this training to any part of your body.
Like mook yan jong to your forearms.
Or kicking a post with your shins.
even iron palm.

There is more about it in the Forum announcements

OK, that's just one benefit and I just said that to get your attention. Iron Crotch (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/prjt001.html) is just another form of Qigong, albeit an unusual one. Master Tu teaches other forms (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/prjt002.html) as well. Like any qigong, it claims a panacea of viatlity increasing results. FWIW, we just published an article by Dr. Korotkov (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=290) who has been extensively researching qi and methods to scientifically measure it. Master Tu was measured, along with a gaggle of other masters at the 5th World Qigong conference and Master Tu's results were literally off the scale. It's also worthy of note that Master Tu is a past sparring champ, not just another new age qigong master, and still retains solid fighting skills.

Hey, I was standing (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=257) right next to him when he pulled that truck, alongside many reknown KF masters and grandmasters. That's not a parlor trick you see everyday. It was a big deal. Just try pull a small weight across the room and tell me it isn't. ;)

great sex you say?

So Gene? Was the old master good? Did he give you a reach around?

...I'd be dead.

Actually, one of his more unusual claims to success is the ability of his older students to father children. Seriously, if I could tow a truck, I'm sure my sexual performance would be better for it. Think about it.

Stacey...

That was tactless, even for you.

How did Dr. Korotkov measure this? The article talks about images of energy, but doesn't mention how he got the images. Is this something similar to Kirlian photography, or is he using a spectrometer, or something else?

fd-

GDV Bioelectrography. (Gas Discharge Visualisation Kirilian Photography)

similar to straight up kirilian photography in principle.

it was very tactless,

and Mr. Ching responded in a way that returned the thread harmoniously. I think his kung fu must be good. Thats how I test people out...if they are angered easilly, its likely that they suck. And it gave me an idea.

Gene, Why don't you push the taoist sex stuff more? Send Maxim or Men's health a little factoid and then do a feature article around the same time. From Tai Chi and mantis I have developed amazing sexual endurance. I think its a selling point. I think I speak for most all of us when I say that its the side effects that we train for that boost our quality of life. Do an article or two like that and your sure to get a broader audience and get them involved in kung fu.

... and even more so, Stacey's admonition of tactlessness.

The sex stuff is always a little touchy for our readership. CMA people can be such prudes. But I hear what your saying, and beleive me, it's on my list of things to do. I'd love to do something for Maxim. After I did the first feature on Tu, I sent a copy to an editor of Playboy. Playboy is one of the highest paying magazines for writers, but you have to have an "in" which I have. One of my Shaolin shixiong did the Jet Li interview for Playboy and made some introductions for me. I never heard back from them, but I heard that they published something on Tu, probably just lifted right out of the my Nov/Dec 01 article. (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=140) Bummed me out.

I think the very concept of Iron crotch freaks most people out. I freaks me out and I've been doing a lot of research on this. Beyond the article, I worked on the video and have more to come. And no, I haven't begun the training myself yet, although I have dabbled with some of Tu's qigong stuff and found it interesting. Nevertheless, it's a fascinating area of research and I will continue to pursue it.
