View Full Version : Cripple style? (not a troll or sick joke)

I've been reading "Kung Fu Elements" by Shou Yu Liang and in the Glossary it mentions a "cripple style" which has one form based on the movements of a crippled person.

It sounds intriguing and, I would imagine, possibly resembles Drunken style.

Anyone know anything about it?

I was at the Lee Koon Hung Grand Opening in 1993, Ft. Lauderdale Fl. USA, when I saw a "cripple" form done. I'm not sure if it is a style but I think it is just a form.

Has anyone else seen it there?

There is a one-armed dude on this forum somewhere, maybe try a search. Also there are many different "cane" arts - most are just sticks with a hook or somthing on the short end, but some were seriously designed for disabled persons. You can also find alot of stuff on the net for people in wheelchairs.

there is a style of silat that was devised by a man who was crippled somehow (probably in battle) He had no use of one of his arms, and *I believe* limited use of one leg. his style incorporates alot of shoulder bumps, close quarters, etc. I'll try to find the style's name, as I can't remember.

those were the days - the days when vcd and videos were real cheap (around 1/3 of todays price) and the quality sucked :D HK movies are much more popular nowadays which is good quality wise, but bad price wise :(

Cripple style is a combination of four types of cripples, blind, one-working leg, hunched back, ?one working arm?.

Oh, ShaolinTiger00 perhaps you mean the ability to translate a concept physically and express any theme in a manner of combat.

Drunkard, Cripple, Animals, Five Elements, Five Ancestors...Pizza delivery person, Data processor, Truck Driver (I did the last three)...:-)

But That's a compliment to Traditional formsy Kung-Fu ShaolinTiger. Thank you if you meant it that kind of way.

No, it was sarcastic-ish. Perceiving at least some sarcasm on your part, it was a light response. It represents my perception of your disinterest in So called traditional, formsy like Kung-Fus.

However, built into my respose was, If you didn't mean it that way, then the response would be discounted.

"What is perception?"

Understanding, based on the view from where is.

"Who is right?"

Whoever, referring to the topic in question, is correct/appropriate with the address to that topic.

"Where Am I?"

Where ever you were, at that moment.

okay but for real, the fact none of us know any cripple sets...goes to show we know crap about martial art...you spend twenty years getting really powerfull in your great style...what happens when you get bootfuqed and you lose the use of any limb...then i think understanding cripple methods would be handy... unless when you get to the point you cant stand on one leg, you like to lie there while they kick you!!?.

I know 2 diego, but I think you're all missing the point. Being hadicapped has less to do with crippled style than being drunk has to do with drunken style.;) Unless you believe the crap you see in Jackie Chan movies has to do with real CMA.:p

I saw a "crippled mantis" kata on a chinese videotape once. Very entertaining! Nobody REALLY fights with thier figers pointing out like that though, do they?

Of course, I can't imagine someone with a broken leg, or even a bad limp doing backflips from a kneeling position, nor performing flying roundhouse kicks...
