I just started a form called Ma Fu.

I was wondering if this is possibly phonetic mistranslation.

The opening movements are:

step forward w/ left foot
tuck right foot behind left knee in a cranelike stance
both hands strike/push forward/down at waist level
with the palms forward and the fingers down

step back with the right foot
drag left foot back on heel, toe up as
hands/arms clear outwards at head level
finish movement with left foot in 'cat' stance as
hands strike/push forward/down at waist level

upward sweeping front to back hook w/ right arm
upward sweeping front to back hook w/ left arm
both arms finish movement w/ hands at waist

left foot kicks forward and returns to chamber

Sounds similar to the opening in Yi lu Mei Fu. This is a Northern Long Fist routine taught at a few schools (including mine). YMAA does this form as well, check out Dr. Yang, Jwing-Mings book or video to see.

duh, I just checked Yang's green longfist book and it definitely
is Yi Lu Mei Fu.

I'd forgotten I had that book.
