Do you wanna race Formula-1? Or do you wanna drive a real car?
No doubt F-1 drivers can handle themselves on the street. But so can lots of people who never race. The awareness and defensive-driving are totally different. As are the rules of the road. F-1 drivers don't have to worry about road-rage, car-jacking, drunk/stoned drivers, or a number of other everyday hazards. The dangers are real but very different. In either case the driver is taking their life in their hands every time they get behind the wheel.
The everyday driver has different needs and preferences. Ford is better than GM? SUV or compact? bleh...
The race track is where most of the innovations regarding performance, safety, and design are developed. If auto makers ignore the standards which are basic for their product to be road-worthy, they don't even make it out of the factory. Too bad MAs isn't more like the automotive world.
