Rage Against the Machine....Killing in the name of

Artist: Wu-Tang Clan
Album: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Song: Da Mystery of Chessboxin'

Lyrics....
Verse One: U-God

Raw I'ma give it to ya, with no trivia
Raw like cocaine straight from Bolivia
My hip-hop will rock and shock the nation
like the Emancipation Proclamation
Weak MC's approach with slang that's dead
you might as well run into the wall and bang your head
I'm pushin' force, my force your doubtin'
I'm makin' devils cower to the Caucus Mountains

Verse Two: Inspectah Deck

Well I'm a sire, I set the microphone on fire
Rap styles vary, and carry like Mariah
I come from the Shaolin slum, and the isle I'm from
is comin through with nuff niggaz, and nuff guns
so if you wanna come sweatin, stressin contestin
you'll catch a sharp sword to the midsection
Don't talk the talk, if you can't walk the walk
Phony niggaz are outlined in chalk
A man vexed, is what the projects made me
Rebel to the grain there's no way to barricade me
Steamrollin niggaz like a eighteen wheeler
with the drunk driver drivin, there's no survivin

Verse Three: Raekwon the Chef

Ruff like Timberland wear, yeah
Me and the Clan, and yo the Landcruisers out there
Peace to all the crooks, all the niggaz with bad looks
Bald heads, braids, blow this hook
We got chrome tecs, nickel plated macs
Black axe, drug dealin styles in phat stacks
I only been a good nigga for a minute though
cuz I got to get my props, and win it yo
I got beef wit commercial-ass niggaz with gold teeth
lampin in a Lexus eatin beef
Straight up and down don't even bother
I got fourty niggaz up in here now, who kill niggaz fathers

Chorus: Method Man

My peoples are you with me where you at?
In the front, in the back killa-bees on attack
my peoples are you with me where you at?
Smokin meth hittin caps on the block with the gats

Quote: "Trail of Dead is what the fans call them. It is WELL worth pointing out that their full name is: And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. How awesome is that?"

It would be awesome if it wasn't so clearly ironic. There is a trend among nancy-boy indy rockers to name themselves something tough.

I think it's great, by the way that people are talking about using At the Drive-In songs as fight music. They don't even allow dancing at their shows because "they refuse to allow their music to be a soundtrack for violence." That's a more or less exact quote from one of the members.

Anyway, back to topic, just about anything from the Clutch album "Transnational Speedway League" would be good as pre-fight music. I think there's a song called "Binge and Purge" that would be particularly fitting.

"It would be awesome if it wasn't so clearly ironic. "

That's actually why I think it's so awesome. When my best freind first told me about them, he said, "There's this band I just found. I think you will really like them. Their name is......."

I busted out laughing immediately and said, "I like them already."

It's just so over the top. And it's almost a full sentence. Who does that?

I'm completely convinced that was intentional. I could be wrong but I don't care. I think it's better this way.

If At The Drive-In or Refused had a problem with me, I'd turn around and let them read the back of my "Keep your politics out of my music" t-shirt.

Hey don't miss out on what you're passing,
you're missing the hootah of the funky buddah,

acting kind of loco I'm just another local
kid from the street getting paid for my vocals.

How I could just kill a man

Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,

Here is something you can't understand,

Here is something you can't understand

I be doing all the dumb **** yo
cause nothing is coming from it
I'm not gonna waste no time ****ing around I got ya humming
humming coming at ya! then you know I had to gat ya!
time for some action just a fraction of friction
I got the clearance to run the interference
in to your sattle light shining a battle light
Sen got the gat and I know that we'll gat you right
here's an example just a little sample:
how could I just kill a man
one time tried to come in my home take my chrome
I said yo it's on. take cover son or you're assed out
how do you like my chrome then I watched the rookie pass out
didn't have to blast him but I did any way, young punk had to pay
so I just killed a man

here is something you can't understand,
how I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man

It's gonna be a long time before I finish
one of the many missions that I have to establish
to lite my spliff ignite you with insite so if you ain't down
bull****. say some punk tried to get you for your auto
would call the one time and play the rolemmodel?
No! I think you'll play like a thug
next hear the shot of a magnum slug, humming coming at ya!
yeah you know I'm going to gat ya. How do you know where I'm at
when you haven't been where I've been, understand where I'm coming from. While you're up on the hill in your big home
I'm out here risking my dome, just for a bucket or a faster ducket,
just to stay alive yo I got to say **** it.
here is something you can't understand, how I could just kill a man.
here is something you can't understand, how I could just kill a man.
here is something you can't understand, how I could just kill a man.
here is something you can't understand, how I could just kill a man.

Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,
How I could just kill a man
Here is something you can't understand,

Well there is this one techno/dance song they play on 106.7 here in Dallas/Fort Worth. Not sure the name, it starts out with this guy, as if he's on a mega phone talking and he says something like "This goes out to uh...all the people who...uhh..." and he keeps talking then the song starts and later he comes back. Wish I knew the name of the song, but 106.7 won't say the names of the songs before they play them because the DJ never ONCE has said a thing on that station.

T.M. Revolution - The Heart of Sword

If I'm gonna choose a cartoon song, it's got to be Popeye's theme

"I'm Popeye the sailor man!
I'm Popeye the sailor man!
I'm strong to the finich cause I eats me spinach
I'm Popeye the sailor man!

I'm one tough gazookis what hates all palookas
What ain't on the up and square!
I biffs and I buffs em and always outroughs 'em
So none of 'em gets nowhere!"

Popeye would choke out Pikachoo

In fact, now that I think of it...THERE!

Can U Feel Me?

I'm cruisin I'm losin money on gas
I pass a car with a star in it I stare
For a minute but that's the limit
Otherwise gas won't be the only thing
I'm losin' money too...ooh wee! It's
Tuesday two days after the weekend
Imagine if the weekend was a day for
Weak minded men anyway
I re take my train of thought I bought
a fat sack and I'm happy cause I got nappy
Soldiers in my crew ya through if
You don't learn so I learnt, that I'm burnt
I ran into my homie, yeah wassup?
At least I thought he was, but then I caught
the buzz that he was talkin behind my back
From his girl, ain't that Earl? For
Those who can't feel me, Earl means wack
In fact, I had that problem a few times
But I'll just splurge it in a new rhyme, then forget it
Maybe I'll split it in half, or laugh like this...
Ha ha ha... can u feel me?

I faked the funk, and conversated without a doubt
He was a chump, but with clout, I ended my route
at the liquor store and I tried to
buy a Guiness Stout, but I remembered it was nasty
But fools drink it cause it's a hip-hop classy
You can miss me with that trendy drink
Cause they, all make your breath stink, plus
death is linked to all alcohol that Arabians won't let you buy
they keep tellin me my identification is a lie
Why would I, put my face on plastic and in the space
where it says birthdate put "see owner"
fool, I'm a teenage organ donor
So I pick up my I.D. I ain't trippin - why?
Cause I'm high, already, on life
Once again - I'm riding
I'm about to hit the eastside of Oakland
I got my seat belt on so when the heat's felt
From 5.0, I'll turn up the song and start
Singing, "I wish police was a lease
that was up" Can u feel me?

Well it's gettin dark, but it's daylight savings time
Clocks go back, but I stay focused and
ahead cause I wanna be fat, can u feel me?
If you rap I like to fully flex, I like to box
I like breakin bullies necks
I like collecting checks and collecting respect
But I'm not there yet and until then I'll just sell dank - sacks
20's, 10's, I'm drivin the weights to be
prepared in case I meet my fate and I'm always
thinking, "Where will I go when I die?
Will I be underground like I am now
or in the sky?" My man plan B is smilin
cause he can feel me, wassup Jess

Or, if all else failed,

I would go with COTTON EYE JOE (where did you come from where did you go)

I forgot who the he!l wrote that, but it would probably make my opponent feel like too much of a redneck hillbilly to be able to fight well. Actually it might backfire and I would get attacked by a farm animal and then he would do a square dance on my as$ (the opponent, not the farm animal)

His song is the one which goes

" Why can't we be friends ? why can't we be friends ? "

That cracked me up when i saw that episode

Or more seriously

Probably something spiritual from tool or

Something angry from Rage Against the Machine or

Some slick styles from Bone thugz and Harmony

Embrace this moment re-member,
We are eternal all this pain is an illusion"

anyhow, my picks-

for bad@ss rock and roll:

"The Evil Powers of Rock And Roll" -The Supersuckers
"Ace of Spades"- Motorhead
"Kick out the Jams (uncensored)"- The MC5
"Idle Hands"- The Murder City Devils

If I wanted something out of left field I'd go with:

"the Boys from the County Hell" - The Pogues
"How Come My Dog Don't Bark When You Come Around?"- Dr. John

man, I can go on and on for hours about this stuff.

Mmmm...Albert Ayler...

TJQStudent, have you ever checked out Peter Brotzmann? I nearly put some Die Like a Dog Quartet or Last Exit on my previous freejazz post. I saw him in concert one time with the Die Like a Dog Trio (the trumpet player couldn't make it) and he was the loudest saxist I've ever heard in my life! Without amplification! He's also the only sax player I've heard (except for Pharaoh Sanders) to be able to keep up with Sonny Sharrock in terms of sheer, brutal skronk. Sonny, of course, had the advantage of playing Les Paul through Marshalls. To make that kind of noise with just a reed and a brass tube takes wind, guts, soul, talent and courage.

Other stuff I like in that vein: Joe Morris, Acid Mothers Temple, Muhal Richard Abrams, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Henry Kaiser and Wadada Leo Smith's "Yo, Miles!" tribute, James Blood Ulmer, Decoding Society, aw, man, I could be here (hear) all night!

Rumor is that the DJ Spooky/Matthew Shipp collaboration record is gonna blow some minds, too.

taijiquan_student
02-05-2003, 07:58 PM
I've only heard of Brotzmann, never heard him. Is the drummer for the Die Like a Dog Trio Hamid Drake? He's a monster. I just got Sonny Sharrock's "Ask The Ages". Other than the little bit of early 70's stuff with Pharoah, that's all I've heard by him, but it's absolutely KILLIN'. Some of the tunes have an almost "rock-anthem" feel to them. Pharoah does some of the craziest stuff since his time with 'Trane on the first tune.
That's the first I've heard of the DJ Spooky/Matt Shipp project. That should be really cool. I just got Shipp's latest, "Equilibrium", with the legendary Khan Jamal on vibes. You should check it out, if you haven't yet. Some of it is similar to "Nu Bop", but I think overall "Equilibrium" has it more together, and the vibes are a nice texture for some of the more ambient parts.
Art Ensemble of Chicago is great. Also: William Parker, Fred Anderson, Kidd Jordan, Charles Gayle, Alan Silva, Sunny Murray, Sam Rivers, Henry Threadgill, Sun Ra, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, etc. etc. etc. I don't know if you could tell, but I'm a saxophonist. Guitar was once my thing, but only blues and rock/metal. I can't really play jazz guitar, though I've tried to teach myself before, in a half-assed sort of way. There's just too much shi.t to get together on my horn. It's nice to talk to someone that likes this kind of stuff.

Chang Style Novice
02-05-2003, 08:28 PM
Yup, the rest of the Die Like a Dog Quartet is Hamid Drake, William Parker and Roy Campbell.

Thanks to a dedicated promoter by the name of Pablo Moreno we get much more than our fair share of brilliant experimental music in this town. All the shows are held in non-traditional showbizzy spaces, too. Most of the Epistrophy Arts events happen in the Ceremony Room of the Sri Atmananda school, but they've also booked acts into art gallerys, a ballet school, college ballrooms - it's just a sort of get in where you fit in process.

One of the absolute best most killer shows I've ever witnessed was a duet by Sonny Simmons and Sunny Murray. Talk about energy!

I've never had the chance to catch Ornette Coleman or Henry Threadgill, though. They are probably my very favorite living musicians, and they've just priced themselves right out of this (relatively) tiny market. Well, Ornette's pretty much priced himself out of anywhere but NYC, LA, Paris, Berlin, and so on.

Ask the Ages is a killer record, but if you can find 'em, I think Last Exit is really where Sharrock did his finest work. Too dang bad he died when he did - apparently Sonic Youth was going to push him as their opening act on a tour and fund a big publicity campaign for his next record. Well, we'll always have the "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" theme.

Lemme drop a few more names that tickle my eardrums: Susie Ybarra, Geri Allen, Mat Manieri, Assif Tsahar, Paula Bley, Joe McPhee, Chris Speed, CECIL MF-in' TAYLOR!, Dewey Redman, Don Byron, Masada, Derek Bailey, Ken Vandermark oh, you get the idea.

Funny how the Kitaro vs. Vangelis thread doesn't seem to need our input. :p

Even funnier how all the metalheads think they bad.:D

and yes, that's Mick Harris from Napalm Death and Mike Patton from Faith No More I'm talking about, so the scenes aren't as seperated as all that. I'm just funnin' you, Xebs, you know that. I could never put up with Sepultura for more than an hour or so, on account of my being such a wuss.

Best answer evAr! You could change it up. One time, come out to the theme as it originally sounded on NES. Like with 8-bit sound and everything.

And then the next time, come out to "Heavy Mario" by the band Game Over. It's like a metal version of the same song. Game Over rules!

How could I forget "Not Dead Yet"

Not Dead Yet
Written by Ralph Covert

Well I was born too late to be a Rolling Stone
I don't know Jerry Lee I never me John & Yoko
Standin' with a strat, I'm rock 'n' roll's ******* son
Go out get drunk get wild have fun
I don't got a million dollars don't drive a Cadillac
Give me half a chance 'cause I'm not dead yet

I'm not dead yet
I'm not dead yet
I'm a mad dog fighting with the wall against my back
You better get a bigger gun I'm not dead yet

I've been machine-gunned handgunned hijacked left for dead
Dive-bombed napalmed nuclear warheaded
Dropped from a jet plane with no parachute
Shot by a firing squad & raped by a business suit
I'm dancin' on a land mine baby one leg left
And I can still crawl and I'm not dead yet

Well you're bigger tougher meaner rougher
Dirtier and uglier and sneakier and trickier
You wanna shoot me with a gun, cut me with a knife
Take your bare hands baby rip out my eyes
You knocked me to the floor then you bit me in the neck, well
Hit me again cause I'm not dead yet

I'm not dead yet, no no
I'm not dead yet
Well I'm a wild card hidin' in the middle of the deck
You better get a bigger gun, you better get a bigger gun

Well there's a mugger in the alley there's a sniper in the hall
There's a girl at the bar wants to get me by my balls
And the hangman is hangin', if I autograph the noose
Lee Harvey Oswald's brother's on the loose
Mafia hit man with a bullet for my neck
Some day he's gonna get me but I'm not dead yet

I'm not dead yet
I'm not dead yet
I'm a wild card hidin' in the middle of the deck
You better get a bigger gun, you better get your poison pen

Makes you feel old when a repeat of an old thread is a year old. LOL

These days I'm gonna have to go with:

"WuTang Clan Ain't Nuthin Ta F' Wit" from Wu Tang Clan, the remix that they used for that Ernesto Hoost Highlight.

"Severe Punishment" also from Wu Tang

"NWO" or "Hero" from Ministry

"Expendable Youth" or that "dance with the dead in my dreams" from Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss

"Walk" and "F'ing Hostile" from Pantera seem a little played out so I'll go with "The Badge" (from the Crow Soundtrack)

"I Hung My Head" or "The Man Comes Around" from Johnny Cash

Disturbed has a lot of good stuff, especially "Prayer", "Voices", "Droppin Plates", "The Sickness", "Stupify"....

"Attitude" by the Misfits

DMX has a lot of good ones *dodging sharp stuff thrown by Suntzu*

"Soldier" by Eminem

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer theme song (gets me pumped as silly as it sounds).

"How the Gods Kill", "I Don't Mind the Pain", "Tired of Bein Alive", "I'm the One", "Possession", "Twist of Cain", or "snakes of Christ" by Danzig

Soundtrack to Gladiator- just the section that appears on track 3 and I think 12 or 13; the bad@zz section where the horns have a lot of bluster.

Goldberg's music.

The girls singing the "freddie song" from Nightmare on Elm Street

"Going the Distance" or "final bell" from the Rocky Soundtrack, whichever one JayZ tried to remake, need to check my cd again.

How about "Won't back Down" by Tom Petty?

Well I won't back down
No I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

No I'll stand my ground, won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin me down
gonna stand my ground
... and I won't back down

Chorus:
(I won't back down...)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(and I won't back down...)
hey I will stand my ground
and I won't back down

Well I know what's right, I got just one life
in a world that keeps on pushin me around
but I'll stand my ground
...and I won't back down

(I won't back down...)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(and I won't back down...)
hey I will stand my ground
(I won't back down)
and I won't back down...

(I won't back down...)
Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(I won't back down)
hey I won't back down
(and I won't back down)
hey baby, there ain't no easy way out
(and I won't back down)
hey I will stand my ground
(and I won't back down)
and I won't back down
(I won't back down)
No I won't back down...

I must be going senile.

The hardest ring entrance EVA:
"The sounds of silence" Simon & Garfunkel

The most elaborate that I would consider:
Full lion dance with drums - me in the head
