I bent my thumb backwrads about a month ago. It didn't hurt at the time but I went to the ER anyway. They said I'd fractured my Volar plate which is the horse-shoe shaped ligament that prevents hyper-extension of the thumb and that it'd heal on it's own.

It's still very sore and the joint is slightly enlarged. I have full range of motion but my grip strenth is weak. Should I do some strengthening excercises now? Should I wait a few weeks until the pain has gone? Should I just not worry about it?

Cheers

Go to a physical therapist.

Get one of those lame stress balls filled with sand and grip it lightly working towards gripping it hard a little bit every day, but most of all: follow Mr. Bao's advice without a doubt.
